My Buell has black rough cast engine cases which over time have got more and more dull and brown ish looking with road works and the likes.
Any one got any good idea how to restore the colour?

Cool, thanks
I'd never cleaned my either, wife's getting worse and worse:rolleyes:
No seriously, I'd been told never to use a citrus based cleaner on a buell or a triumph, tried cheap and nasty engine degreaser tonight and thought, yahoo, but no, once it was dry it didn't make any difference, tried a foam cleaning product I had in my shed for ages, that didn't do any thing either.
Is your bike the same rough cast black ?

yip its the same wrinkle finish,
the cheap degreaser i used made it worse.
Gave it a not so nice milky finish.......
Every now and then i spray it down with silicon(lazy mans clean) looks ok for a lil while till it burns off.
I prefer the well used look......which it is...

Hmm, Silicon,
when it is wet it looks fine, dry it looks crap, should try the s100 or what ever.

What about a spray on foam action degreaser that you use for cleaning mags? Same material used, and it has Macleans sort of action.

I hope I didn't start that rumour:facepalm: Buell was written off and initial reports were destruction by CBC. Actual product turned out to be "Simple Green".
I've got a few different products you're welcome to try.

The Tergo GoldRush handcleaner (yellow stuff) is incredibly good at getting gunk off. The only thing it wont remove is tar, everything else is history in just seconds. It's also cheap and available everywhere.

I use silicone-spray on my FXDXT and it sharpens up the black 'crackle' finish on the engine casings - only negative is that dust sticks to it and you get dirty hands if you touch the cases after spraying silicone on the motor and going for a ride.

Been told it strips the paint?I use it everywhere and never had a problem with it. Aaaaaabsolutely maaaaaaarvelous at getting wheel gunk off.

I wouldn't use the gritty stuff on glossy paintwork though. I'd love to try a general cleaning product that has the same active ingredient as the hand cleaner.

Just given the s100 Engine brightner a go, see how we go??:wait::wait:
I was told a person used a citrus based degreaser on a Buell and it stripped the paint in blotches to the point where an insurance claim was made and the company concerned wrote the bike off.
