Is it worth bringing a classic GSX1100EZ over from the UK?

Ok, so the time for me to ship all my crap over to nz draws near... I was hoping someone might give me an idea of what this bike is worth so i can decide whether to sell it here or bring it with me. 1981 suzuki gsx1100ez, utterly mint condition, new vance and hines pipe, 18000km on the clock... I have never seen a better one. I know what its worth here in the UK, but have no idea of tyhe classic Jap bike market over there. Any suggestions very gladly received!! Kitch

These were a bit of an orphan over here, didn't sell in big numbers at all, so if you're looking to the collectors you'd be searching a while to find somebody to leap at it.

Take the motor out and bring it over, that'll be worth a bit

I would put it as under UK3000 top price. I don't recall any 1100 going for more than that. The closest would have to have been a EFE with 4000km and mint condition that sold for NZ6000. That was pre-recession.

I would bring it anyway. I had one back in the day, and think they are the best of the GSX1100 models. Having said that, I loves me EFEs'

Deffinately worth finding another half doz pre 89 1100 engines to strip down and load into the bike crate with it ! Gettin hard to source over here !

I know someone who recently paid $5600nz for a fairly original 81 ET, with roughly 50,000kms and non standard mufflers, but basically good and unrestored.
Pretty much top dollar I would think.

Is the money really that important? Do you love the bike or are you looking for a change?

If I had a bike like that, as sinfull said - the only concern here is spares should you need them.

I'd bring it over if it was me.

Not sure what hassles / extra cost you need for certification and the like.

Right, many questions answered. It seems like its worth more here in the UK.. I have only had it 23 hours.. i am a bike slut for sure! I know the score about having a vehicle for 12 months before it becomes duty free, but if this had been worth a shed load then i would have taken the taxation hit. Yes the money is important; it was a business purchase rather than an emotional one... Been making money out of breaking old school suzukis over here for years now.. if i had a container load of 1100EF motors, i would be a rich man anywhere they do drag racing!!! Sooo it looks like i will prob sell the old beast b4 i come over.. With petrol at $2+ a litre (its now about $2.85 over here) I'm thinking a bike that does big thirst is not so sensible for big miles.

Personally, I would think its true value would be a lot more than what you would realise for it here. As Jellywrestler said, they were an orphan over here. The T and X models sold in good numbers, but the Z and D models were scarce. Most buyers went for the Katana instead.
