View Full Version : Fine for pillions not wearing a helmet?

I've seen twice this week near campus scooter riders carrying pillions without helmets, other than the potential Darwinism factor, can someone tell me the penalties for pillions not wearing helmets?
All I've been able to find on the NZTA website is that it's worth 25 demerits for a rider to be caught without but I assume there is a fine that goes with it too?

I constantly see them with bicycle helmets on....Dumbasses, there was one lady at St.Lukes with an 8yr old girl on the back of her scooter, woman nearly got taken out by a car within .5 of meter from pulling out of her park. Yikes!

It's a list of all offences and penalties. It contains the answer to the OP's question.

Stop being so damn sensible. It's not the KB way.

Keep calm and carry on.

I think the fine depends on the pillions Cup size.
;]

I have seen first hand the results of dumb ass Uni students riding around 2 up on a cheap chink made scooter, the guy in control had a tshirt and shorts and a motorcross helmet, and his female pillion was wearing a mini skirt and a tank top, with a hi vis bicycle helmet (just as well or I would have never seen them at an intersection...) anyways I was following these muppets who on a straight peice of road at about 50km managed to bin this scooter and fire them both off onto the road, lets just say there was alot of missing skin, and I should say the poor girl wont be wearing anything that short ever again, although she will spend a shit load more on face make up...

Every generation needs to learn the lesson for themselves, skin and tar seal do not go together.

You would think with all the info on the internet students might look up the effects of hitting the road with nothing on your skin (on a moped even jeans would help a bit) and try to protect themselves just in case they do have a spill...
