Chrome plating a petrol tank?

Hi I am restoring a 1950 BSA and need to re crhrome the tank
I have tried some normal electroplaters but yiu need some special jig
Any ideas

Used to be normal to chrome plate a tank...not to mention factory chrome tanks like the BSA.Mt Eden Electroplaters would be one of the oldest shops in Auckland,always did the best job back in the day...bet they still know how to do it.

Try Industiral Electroplaters in Onehunga or Forlong and Maisey in Hamilton.
I'm pretty sure they do car and bike resto chroming.

I'd be interested to hear what the jig is for. Maybe they like the tank set up a specific way to ensure a clean even coating.

Hi Birdhandler, I'm thinking of getting a tank chromed and sealed. Did you find out what the jig was for? Whats the ball park cost on chroming?

The jigs they use in electroplating are to hang the part to be plated in the bath.
They are made of copper (I think)and have plastic insulation over the parts of the jig that are not in contact with the component to be plated to that the whole jig doesn't get covered and so that the feild density in the tank is in the right places.

I'm not an electroplater but have been around a couple of plating shops for work so this is verry much a laymans understanding.

I don't think they would neccesarily have to make a new jig for each job if they had something that was close enough to start with.
