Heated grips on a scooter?

Thinking about a set of heated grips for the mighty AN125.

Anybody know why that wouldnt work? I have no idea of the electrical output of the alternator or anything, (or the current draw of the grips), or how much headroom if any there is in the capacity.

Anyone else done it?

Just do it, someone has to be first.

I would imagine as long as the battery is in good condition and not needing lots of charging then grips should be ok.
I know of one gilera 180 2smoker with heated grips with no probs.

Cheers. Yeah, I think thats the plan. The only issue is I run the lights on fullbeam all the time as well. The bike is basically new.

Fuck it. Lets give it a whirl and see how it goes. Plan b would be some endurobike handguards to stop the windblast on my delicate office worker fingers.

I'd hook them up and try them first. It's easy to wire them up, and a but a lot harder and messier to remove the grips if they dont work out. My guess is there wont be enough power. Good on ya for leaving your headlights on fullbeam.

I think you'll be fine. Just keep an eye on the headlight when you switch on the grips. Any drop in light output is an indicator the eletrical system is being taxed.

Anyway if it doesn't work - as Jim Morrison once said, you'll get your kicks if the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

According to this (http://www.oxprod.com/index.php?pg=3&action=dept&id=137&pid=174&p) these ones draw less than 4 amps, so about 50W, so about the same as a headlight bulb.

So stick another headlight bulb across the battery, rev the thing and see if the battery voltage stays up around 14.8V, if it does there's enough from the alternator to run the grips as well.

My little 50cc would get a flat battery from running the headlights constantly, I found. It might have also had to do with running them full-time and only taking short trips. I now just run the day-light running lights, which are two LED arrays that are actually pretty bright, and no longer have the battery problem. What a weak system! With that said, I agree that you might want to run the test on your scoot Neels mentions before dropping the coin for the kit.

I had the wrap around heated grips on my scooter and had no worries. Just remember to wire them into a spot that when you turn the key off it also powers off the heated grips.
