Short-arse newbie needs help!

So I got my learner license and all the gear - but no bike. I REALLYREALLYREALLY don't want to buy a GoNowhere 250 (sorry all you die-hard GN fans and reminiscers) ... so can anyone please tell me what other 250s I could consider that would suit a 5'3" newbie?

I really like the CBR250 or even the CBF250 but suspect they're too tall for me.

maybe look at a yamaha scorpio, honda spada or kawasaki gpx?

best idea would be to have a look around some bike shops and sit on a few different models, and see how they feel to you.

Have a sit on a Suzuki GZ 250. You will be flat footed and you may only keep it until you get your full licence anyway.
It will still have good resale.

go to bike shop and sit on a few, if you ask, they wont mind.
I have a friend who is a real short bastard, he had a cbr250, theyre quite short. Alot of the newer 250 sporty bikes are quite tall, like the hornets and the hyosungs etc etc, though i think the kwak 250 is quite short?

I think my girlfriend is slightly taller and she can just get both feet down on the GPX.

The ex250 is good for shorter legged characters. Also the CBR I know a little fella with one of those

How short. CBR250RR is the best learner size bike ever made, and you sit very low on it. Plus the adjustable preload on the rear shock can bring it down a bit further. Try one and then buy one. They are awesome.

Ditto that, the CBR250RR is a great bike to learn on! And can be adjusted to suit all sizes, too. I'm about 6' tall, and its pretty comfy for me with the rear preload set at 5, whilst a friend up in Auckland has her preload set at 2 for her 5'4" height. Makes quite a bit of difference, noticably so with the two bikes side by side. Just to be sure to look for a good quality one though, these days there are a few shabby ones out there...

The CBR250 is quite short, but it has enough power to easily scare/hurt a n00b. Treat it with caution.

I've got a GSF250, I find it a bit short in the legs, get pretty bad cramp in my hips after about 20 mins. So might suit you perfectly (I'm 6'1").

Yamaha Virago by far, from my experience.
V twin 250 that will handle open roads/hills etc.

Or....a 20+ year old 250 sports bike that's been thrashed for the same $$$ :blink:
