I decide I would take the XT out for a wee ride today and get into some gravel riding,Thats why I brought it
With my route all sorted out in my head, the bike ready and informing the missu's of my plans, away I went following the Whanganui river along Papaiti Rd which is mostly seal and the last 4-5k's being gravel so I was taking it easy and getting to know how the bike react's in the gravel and more importantly how I would react with the back sliding out....so far all good and I am getting a buzz out of the road I was on and looking forward too the next 50 or so k's of gravel road and farm track I had ahead of me (last time I did this road it was on the daytona:shutup:)
At the end of Papaiti Rd it goes straight into Kauarapaoa Rd which is more of a single file and farm track with some stock and wild goats a Kamakaze pukeka along the way and a half crazed german short haired pointer that decided too chase me for almost half a k  but the riding was going well and I was feeling confident on the bike with the way it was sliding through the corners,a feeling I haven't felt for over 20 years....yeah I was having a blast and as I was heading up the hill into the next right hander I opened her up abit OOOPS!!! well that wasn't meant too happen I was on my arse  I Pick myself up and the bike all is good just a small tear in my pants and a broken brake lever knob, had a laugh about it and decided too head back down and try it again this time sweet, so carry on too Rangitatau east road and back down to Kai Iwi where I encounted a hine bouncing down the road, this stretch is more open and after about 15 or k's you get back onto sealed road, once back at Kai Iwi I took the main road back home
cost of today
fuel $20
brake leaver $12
repair pants $10
that buzzing feeling of enjoyment after a ride priceless:yes:

wonder if it was a rock locking the front wheel the way the front guard smashed off..
watch when hes coming off in slow mo...his head only just misses the large rock in the road...hard fall....

I've read through the thread and the consenus seems to be the looped break cable (like on the 950 ) jambed on the knobs and lock the front wheel....the cause was probably a rock gettin stuck between the tire and the wheel....not nice

My old bmw 650 took an absolute beating when I had it....as I had no off road experiance it was a painful learning curve for both of us..............6 years later and I ,m waiting on op for my busted shoulder so I suppose I have,nt progressed as well as I thought :bye:

Mate that's far too long to wait, for the mere offering of a six pack of Heineken I can perform that surgery for you with no more required than my motorbike tool kit, hit me up if you want to schedule in a time
That looks like fun

As a fellow member of the buggered shoulder club :violin: I feel ya pain.
Mind you I have never claimed after completing a ride that a ride on another island will not be enough of a challenge for my remarkable skills :innocent:
Not sure on the nature of yer wound but some advice for what its worth, do what the physio tells ya. Stop!!! as soon as you feel any pain and dont try and rush the recovery
Shoulders heal eventually but for goodness sake never swear at the boss
