View Full Version : What is it with scooters and parking spaces?

Work in the Wellington CBD, and parked the Honda inbetween two other medium machines this moring (with just enough space to allow their owners and myself to get in and out). Came out this evening to find a scooter wedged between mine and the machine on my right - and wedged was the word. Couldn't even get the Honda 1-2 inches off the side stand, just enough to stand it up and move it.

Ended up having to take the scooter off its main stand, and moving it out into the road about 2-3 feet, shifting the Honda out, and then putting the scooter back. I have no wish to touch other people's machines, but there was no way I could get my machine out.

What is it with some scooter riders ? I almost considered putting my disk lock on their front wheel for the night, but thought better of it in the end. Maybe I'll leave a wee note next time (maybe).

my wife used to ride my bike to work and every day when she went to come home the bike park had scooters jammed in at all angles, my bike ended up with scratches etc, fucked me off no end

Also not enough spaces for everyone here in Auckland, the bike parking strips are packed around the city CBD

It always pleases me when I go to Melbourne and there are bikes and scooters parked on the footpaths. I reckon that should be encouraged here, as an anti congestion measure.

I park my scooter anywhere I can stop it. car park, footpath whatever.

Its one of the chief advantages of riding the bloody thing.

yeah, I get annoyed at other scooter riders, there is a motorcycle only park right across the road from my work and I park there 5 times a week, there is always this one knob scooterist who parks in such a way that only two other vehicles can park within the yellow lines, scooter or otherwise.

so I now park as far outside the lines as I can without encroaching on the entrance the to the parking for the building behind.
I do this because I ride, the boss of the shop next door rides, and this knob rides, that's three bikes/scooters in a four bike park, this park is also one of the busiest parks in town 90% of the time someone comes to park as someone goes to leave. if my scooter hadn't been hit by a car in the next closest motorcycle park then I'd park there to free up more space in this one, the only other two are 15 mins walk away, and I'm not that nice.

So you are suffering or being put at risk (your scoot anyhow) for a knob. That's not fair.

I should take a photo of WINTECs motorcycle park. All the motorcycles park fine. The scooters park in all sorts of odd places making it extremely difficult for everyone to get out.

Scooters should really have their own parking space when they can scratch the fuck out of each other and no one else.

Next time leave it the 2-3 feet in the road where you had to move it so you could get out.

Seriously though, pics?

yeah, if I catch this guy I'm going to have a quiet word with him/her, but no matter how early I get there it's either not parked there or already there, I've had the security guard at work watch to see if they can see them coming and going, but no luck there either..... yet

Jim2 (cough) had a scooter park so close to his bike at work, he couldn't get on.

So he just used the scooter as a step ladder and climbed on/over it onto his bike.

Scooter owner was near and saw, and protested.

I don't think Jim2 cared a bit.
