A mates, yes I do have one or two, loaned me a copy of "Motorcycle Engineering" by P.E. Irving, Published in the US by Clymer Publications in the 1960s. Quite an interesting read about m/c developement/design in the first 60 odd years.

Try and get hold of 'Tuning for speed" by Phil Irving. Bikers bible in the 60s A bit on the technical side but a good reference book.

Will do. Also been lent "Modern Motocycle Mechanics" Six Edition by J. B Nicholson.

P.E.Irving (aka Sliderule) designer of (among other things) the Vincent and the Repco Brabham engines.

Another good book would be "The Ricardo Story" the biography of Sir Harry Ricardo, an English engineer who did a lot of development work in the 20s and later http://www-g.eng.cam.ac.uk/125/1900-1925/ricardo.html

Anything about Harry Weslake would be good, too
