10 day North Island tour from Auckland

hey peeps.

looking at doing a bit of a ride over easter time, got 10 days off and keen to do a trip around the north island as its been a while.
Just looking for tips on good roads to ride and places to stay, things to see etc.

Will be leaving from Auckland inital thoughts are something like this:

Auckland-Tauranga-Gisborne-Napier-Palmerston North-New Plymouth-Taupo-Rotorua-Auckalnd

I grew up around the coromandel so keen to get away as far east/south as possible.

Is it worth going down Palmy north way? or would it be better to cut across to taupo from napier?

any other suggestions?

Well I have just done a similar type of ride, I went, Taupo, Wanganui, Palmerston North, across to Napier, Gisborne through to Opotiki (via Waioeka Gorge which was great fun) then onto Tauranga.

Was great riding the whole way, Manawatu Gorge between Palmerston North and Woodville was great especially as I had never been through there before. although they are working on some parts of the road there.

Roads I'd highly recommend are Paekakariki Hill Road (north of Wellington) and the Kaimais (SH29) heading towards Tauranga
