How the fuck does this happen????

I went in to a NZTA 3 weeks ago to sit my test for a 6L. I pass the theory test, they take my picture, I pay the fee, they give me my temporary paper license and off I go. Luckily, before I leave, someone there tells me to calll the 0800 number if I dont recieve the license in the mail before the temp license expires, to avoid paying a fee to get a new license made.

I called the 0800 number the day before it expires (shoulda called sooner , you should get it in 4-5 days). The first red flag found is that my temp license has a line drawn through the field where a license number should be hand written. Ok, transfered me to a supervisor. He says the records show you didnt pass :shit:....I will have to confirm this with them...they are closed...wont hear from them till moday...blah blah blah.

So, today is the day I should hear back if I still have a 6L or not:bye:

I can't be certain, but I could almost guarantee that the person who cocked your licence up is a human.

Humans make mistakes.

Please advise if you are a person who has never made a mistake. Then I'll totally agree with you.

Until then, don't be so bloody hard on people who make mistakes.

Harumph.

That's hardly fair.
A licence applicant makes a mistake - applicant pays (in some way).
AA drone makes a mistake - licence applicant pays (in some way).

I once made a mistake by thinking I was in a 100km/h zone, when in fact I was still in an 80.

That was an expensive mistake. I bet the lovely officer that gave me the ticket has never made a mistake though. Then again, I can't guarantee she was human.

Oh dear! Did they actually tell you'd not passed? They shouldn't have given you a temp licence if you didn't...

Good luck!

fair enough... For people getting your license, make sure you check that yout temp license has a the license number written in. I missed out on a great weekend to ride, and I suppose I'll not get this sorted for a another week or so. Had I known to question that ahead of time, I might not have been in this mess. I'd rather this didnt happen to others, so I felt the need to share the story.

It isn't really your problem. Call them back on their 0800 number and tell them to hurry up and get to work on the problem, and then just go ride. If you get stopped, just explain and shrug. There's no cop on the planet who is going to book you for that, and if he did theres no court on the planet that's going to uphold it, and they did, I'd just tell them to get effed.

Dear God, of course it is *his* problem. It's not someone else's licence he is trying to get FFS!

Please, please, please don't listen to DangerousBastard as he has no idea (literally!)

If you are riding on the road without a licence then you are breaking the law. Try telling a cop to get fucked while they are doing there job will only result in more problems, for you.

I don't know what the matter is with the system at the mo. I booked in for my 6F test some weeks ago. Booked the very first slot so I only had to take the morning off work. Turned up before the time to find a kid also waiting to do his car licence. When the examiner arrived he told me I was not booked in at all. Showed him the computor generated booking confirmation but his list did not have me down. The kids car had a brake light out so was not allowed to do his test. I thought, poor bastard, but hey, I can do mine now. But no! mine is a 1 hour test, the kids slot was only half an hour. Had to wait an hour for the office girl to arrive to sort out the paperwork. They could not decide how the system booked me in and then dropped me off. Not only did it drop my booking it cancelled my dangerous goods endorsement that was loaded at the time of booking. Best they could do was fit me in at the end of the working day. Rang the boss and told him I won't be back to work that day and waited around all day. Passed the test OK albeit a very shortened version cause the examiner wanted to get home.

Two weeks later got two letters on the same day exactly the same saying there was something wrong with my pictures and to revisit licensing office to have them retaken. Got there and was told it was a system fault and my picture was not needed. Issued another temperary licence.

That licence expires today so went into the office again. (Lucky I have been rained off at work) They told me they are having problems with the production of new licences and have been issued with ANOTHER temporary one. I am starting to think someone does not want me to have my 6F!!!

Sometimes computors and humans just don't work well together!

...a friend went to renew his licence...he had a car and m/c licence for thirty years..when it arrived they had cocked up and instead of having a car and m/c licence, he now has a car and self laying tracks licence...when he went to get it sorted , they said they couldn't do it and have made him resit his m/c licence all the way through from restricted..unbelievable but true...

I hope he got to keep the self-laying tracks licence then...

Wow not just me then!

I went through 3 temporary licences and a few phone calls over the duration of 5 weeks before they sent out my 6R last week.

Then the solution was obvious:

Park up the bike and commute on a dozer. Possibly an ideal mode of transport currently.

Then when asked WTF he is doing on the motorway during a traffic stop he can explain away the error. Might need to get up a little earlier in the mornings to arrive on time though.

OP here...

It never entered my mind to ride without a valid license, and doing so would not make for a very enjoyable ride because I would expect to be pulled over any moment, knowing my luck. Another TEMP license arrived in the mail in time for me to get out on the road this weekend. Saturday was perfect here in welly, and I got to ride some new-to-me roads for the first time: Moonshine valley(narrow!) and paekakariki hill(Awesome!).

I'll give them another call in a week or so to see if there is anything holding up my receiving the license, and damn! Looks like I am not the only one having a hard time with nzta!
