It's all because the government is too pussy to crack down on serious crime. Don't get caught having expired road user charges or doing a small burnout - those are all much more serious crimes than assault. It must be true because the government told me so.

A few years ago my neighbours house got broken into by a 14 year old and a 15 year old. The cops caught the burglars and found the stolen property at their respective addresses. Guess what - the police were powerless to do anything because of their age. What message does that send to our kids? And some of us wonder why many of the youth today are so messed up.

I'm a peace loving aspergian, so I've always felt in the minority. Even my neurotypical friends and family seem bad ass to me, vindictive, ill tempered and difficult.

As the articles point out, the kids brought up "right" don't succumb to the violence shown on in the media, but kids without proper direction are prone to copycat actions as portrayed by such media.

Why not use real people as examples? There are many, many people that grow up without killing anyone, damaging someone else's property, raping, thieving, baby beating, etc.

Agree with what you are saying (with the exception of the white bit). It's high time that we started to teach people that bad decisions have bad consequences. I will always want to live in and support a country where kids have a chance at something better than what they are born into, however it seems that just throwing money at the problem is not working. The DPB is so flawed on many levels, and is essentially providing a career for some very unqualified people (don't get me wrong, i believe there is a place for this benefit, we just need to stop people having kids so they get a pay rise).

Your comment does have some truth - but since the black population in South Africa is much larger than the white population, blacks are killing other blacks at epidemic levels. Back in the Apartheid era, there still weren't anywhere near as many whites in the country as there were blacks so there were fewer murderers around.

I've spoken to many blacks over there and most of them say that they are more scared of other blacks than they are of whites.
