Calender entry is up for this prestigious event. Friday night riders are responsible for finding their own accommodation. Phil and I are looking at riding down to Wanganui on Saturday morning. Spare bed and some floor space available at my house for riders coming from the North (be in quick)
I am excited already :woohoo:

Damn, he's snagged me with the ol' super sneaky auto-register trick... I'm going to have to come now... Will have to monitor the weekend situation closer to the day though.

To avoid having any other nosy riffraff automatically signed up when they look at the calendar Col, you need to go un-reg yourself, copy the link over again, then re-reg. If you make a calendar entry, register yourself & then copy the link everyone who clicks the link gets added to the attend list. You need to reg yourself after you have copied the link. Don't ask me why this is so.

Cheers
Clint

Decision time for me after the weekend, sounds a good ride to do I just need to get ahead with some work first so I can have the friday (& weekend off), rough thoughts include Awakino, Whangamomona etc rather than river road but that's probably a bit weather dependant.

If it stays fine you could do the most of the ride on dual sports. The pic of my bike on its side was taken on a downhill on the Meremere track . It was effen greasy I wont kid ya. However look at the rear tyre and see if I helped my own cause
Phil and I are going to ride one track (maybe more ) Easter weekend as we have yet to do it in the direction we will be traveling  (did you follow that bamboo logic?). We will make the call on that section on the day :corn:
The longest mud section is flat :scooter: Its a clay surface road that follows a river valley.
If it absolutely pissists :crybaby: down with rain for a week prior to the ride we may look at plan B for certain stages. It wont be because of the mud though, it will be because of ............. ohhh nearly let out that secret :shit:
We want the ride to be challenging :scooter: without being soul destroying :crybaby:
Come for a ride  You know you want too :corn:

Yeah, I know. I had some scarry moments on one. The side knobs flex, so the tyre feels all squishy when cornering. Not bad on gravel though.

Hey Nordie...are they any good? I,m running mitas eo-7 s at the moment and need a couple of new tires soon, how do you rate them?......

NordieBoy
26th April 2011, 17:09
I only get 8-9000km out of them but they're fine. Soft rubber compound, slide easily and smoothly, soft sidewall.
A good cheap knobblish tyre.

I'd only use them on a 650 class single or smaller.

Apart from in mud I prefer the 705 though.

Neither is the Kenda 270.

For all it's vices, I found the 270 was OK in mud. It's obviously not as good as a full knobbly but the Kenda didn't seem to clog up either, where an EO7 would.
Mind you I'm talking about pure SI mud, not that smelly Naki stuff.

You'll be right, you've got the lightest most agile bike there !! and im sure the big burly blokes riding the pigs will be more than happy to pull you out of a bog, once they've found a 10m square flat area to back the bike into, turned on their reverse beeper and got someone to put the side stand puk(big plank of wood) on the ground for them, you should be good as gold

Heading down tomorrow Mark.
Kanny is riding a bit of the way. (her day off).
Usual gravel roads down to National Park, then Wang river road.
Will be often rainy, but the temperature should be in the high teens hopefully.

Take it easy riding through Raetihi in the evening. Theres weird folks out at night down that way. (Think you met one at Pipiriki not long ago):innocent:

Well that was fun :)

Thanks guys n girls. Some tough stuff in there but we all made it out and made those that didn't do Saturdays farm ride wait n wait n wait!

Glad the big bikes didn't do the Sat farm ride, could have been much more pushing.

Didn't touch my tyre pressures on the rear all weekend and still had 35psi in when i checked just now..........:shifty:

Some pics, see you on the next ride :)

It was fun! Well I sure enjoyed it, and would go again in a flash. But the wet week before the weekend made it more suited to those who have endured a few muddy trail rides. For those that had not done this before, well you have now!

It was certianly tough if you bit off the hard bits, but I am sick enough to enjoy that sort of thing at times. Not all the time though.

What a great adventure, although some times during the weekend i questioned my sanity, particularly coming down the first on Saturday, Cary I’m real glad you got all those pictures of my lay down, not. Already started on building a new screen after crash on Saturday afternoon.
Many thanks to Phil & Colin, well done guys, great accommodation at Colin’s place with a cooked breakfast and all. That’s the first time I’ve had to tow a bike on the road, all went good, cruised at 80kph.
Cheers
Al

I was away last weekend but what a time you brave souls had! Did get out the previous Sun in Taupo on a different sort of bike though. At the 'Have a Go' Sidecar Swinging. Something I've always wanted to since riding my first bike, my SL125 to Wanganui for the Cemetery Circuit back in the LOL 70's. Went out two times with the 2009 NZ Champs R1 1000. What a blast !!!! :woohoo::woohoo:& sore muscles & a bruise to show for it. LOL So you & the Adv guys & gals must give it a go next year if you can. You lot are well tough & MAD enough!!!
Do hope nothing too tricky to find with the electrics. Good luck with that.

Don't think I've posted this here yet. More footage, this time from my helmet cam, up until I went head first into a bank and broke the mount anyway.

The beast has got some sort of electrical issue..:

Check the loom where it goes through/around the frame that holds the overflow bottle/smog valve/ign coil.

The loom on my KLR seemed to be routed incorrectly so it was rubbing against a sharp edged bracket, had cut through the outer wrapping, and the insulation of a couple of wires. Relocating the loom and taping up the damage resolved that issue.
This is in addition to the other loom problem that had the indicators cease working. Motorad fixed that as part of the first service so not sure where that damage occured.
