VFR400 / cbr250rr / cbr400rr seat lock etc

Hi, have a vfr400 NC30, missing the entire seat lock mechanism under the pillion seat...see photos - all I have is the cable. anyone have this part floating around/available? I also wouldn't mind the matching lock for the tank cap and/or ignition, but not too fussed about the ignition.

DoNt worry about it mate, heading down to Napier this weekend to swap a whole lot of parts with someone who wants to race one :-) convenient for someone like me converting it from a racing one! You sound like you know lots though! What did you think of the left rear carb filling with fuel thing? Floats/float bits clean should fix it? If you've got any time for some expertise, I'd love it - racefactory has been showing me round this thing but he's way over on the shore (I'm in avondale!)

Hmm I had the carbs Off again yesterday, I replaced the little bit that has the spring in it for the float on carb #1, and left the fuel tap on overnight. It seemed to hydrolock, but no fuel out the carb intakes this time, and only a tiny bit came out of #3 when I pulled the plugs and ran the starter, so I think that's fixed it a bit. Still don't have a vacuum fuel tap though, the one I swapped works better (old one used to let fuel Out if just slightly off). Considering getting a fuel tap rebuild kit?

Do get a working fuel tap (fire hazard, among other things), but you will still need to fix the float otherwise it'll run rich/flood that cylinder when it's running anyway.

considered a carby rebuild kit? they usually sell them on a per-carby basis and would eliminate the float seal from the equation.

WelL I have a spare set of carbs (were working fine but with air intakes butchered and idle stop buggered), so can get parts from that, I just dont know what to look at now - the floats moved fine with carbs off, float height is good, replaced the float bowl gaskets... What would be in a carb rebuild kit that I couldn't get from my spare carbs (and isn't the float bowel gasket)?, and what would you like photos of? :-p

Would you be free some time to take a look at it maybe?

so, assuming the floats are functioning, how is the float valve seal.

With fuel hooked up, does holding the float up actually stop the fuel leaking into the carb?

OkaY, will take some photos when I next have everything off - probably eventually when I rebuild the tap (have just ordered it from the uk). Didn't check the valve seal sorry, can't remember if he Haynes manual I have said much about it (or probably skipped it when it went into dismantling the carbs)

Not sure what you mean about hooking fuel up and holding the float up.. do you mean I should take them out of the bike, attach the fuel line and sit and watch? The float Is on the undeside of the carb so can't exactly play with it while putting fuel in and keeping the carbs up the right way?

if the floats are all working to hold the valve closed but fuel is still finding it's way into the bowl, then it's possibly the rubber seal that's stuffed. It's typically a little conical thing.

If you remove the bowl and hook up some fuel, the floats will be sagging in mid air and fuel will piss through the valve. If you hold the floats up the fuel should stop. If it does, the problem is the floats are getting stuck or being seriously misadjusted/bent. If it doesn't, the seal is stuffed or there's something in the seat.

Beauty, got it. Fuel tap should be here in a week or so, should I still check this after I've installed the new tap? Someone else I talked to said the floats will open anyway if the tap isn't turned off?
