Cycle Treads charges 15 bucks for freight to the South Island, and the tyre from them I have sitting here has a "NOW Couriers" ticket stuck on it.

Get them to check out PBT - and specify that it's to go 2-3 day freight, not overnight. We were wondering why a freight charge was so expensive at one stage, but figured it out when the goods turned up the next day from Nelson (similar sort of money to what your seller is quoting, so I'm thinking CP are quoting for overnight freight - it's who we use at work for o/nite to the South Island & not cheap).

NZ Couriers might do slower freight, but not sure.

The other thing to try is NZ Post - as in posting the tyre - we've done that in the past but not to the mainland.

Got a tyre on trademe from a bike dealer in Otago.
Was only $12 freight.
Took 2 working days to get to Napier.

Some businesses have obviously got good deals with couriers.

NZ Post. $20 Levin to Dunedin. Just wrapped an A4 sheet with the address on it around it with heaps of sellotape.

Cheers
