Came home today to find our PS3 and 360 missing, all leads for the respective device also vanished.
Flatmate arrives 30 minutes later after being out for an hour, pissed off to all hell etc etc.

Who the fuck would leave a $500 stereo, $2000 computer, $1000 t.v in one room and take but two consoles?
In my bedroom there were $500 speakers, $800 amp, $2000 computer etc etc?

A one man operation? Someone who knew when people would be leaving the house unattended? Maybe we'll see who doesn't turn up for a few weeks that usually does...

They target consoles and laptops. Parents had 3 laptops stolen and their wii the other week. Left a lot of other stuff worth quite a bit of money. Consoles and laptops must be easy to dispose of.

We are all 20-25 in the house, so you're probably right.

Sprog.
Certainly not a pro...

We have a very narrow band of people that know when we wont be in the house, I work 7-4, flatmate does staggered uni classes and his missus works fucked up, but regular hours...

Oh wells.

EDIT: That's what I first thought, Sil3nt. Dickloads of consoles on trademe etc, impossible to single out one.

LOCKS FOR EVERYONE.

Also easy to pop under a jacket to carry hidden.

Where do you live and when do you go out?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but glad you didn't get hit as badly as it might have been

Their have been a number of similar thefts round here over the years. Mobiles, playstations etc. Toys really. The culprits have nearly always been adolescents usually seen roaming the streets with an eye for open windows & peoples routines.

A dishwasher I had years ago, a real behemoth, was caught when she got stuck in a bathroom window. She was 13 at the time.

Plan B could be a casual acquaintance who you know. They would tend to be more organised & take your laptops etc too, make it worth the risk of getting caught.

I would say odds on that your stuff is within 1km of your house.

It sucks, glad it was no worse for you.

I would have had the lappie & stereo. Last time I played a video game it was that tennis game on a black & white telly with little wooden doors for when they weren't broadcasting.

Because of all the break in's in my neighborhood (one family!) I got me a dog 18 months ago. She is fookin useless, if a burglar was stupid they might trip over her.

The kids get caught, it's quiet for a few weeks, they re-appear & it all kicks off again. They have mini bikes to terrorise us with now. Probably not their fault though...

Don't be so sure, they may have got spooked and be coming back. Happened to us a few years back, after that we tried bedroom door locks but he just kicked the doors down. One thing to do is deadbolt any exterior doors, this somewhat limits what they can take out through a window. Also, hide, secure, or take with you anything valuable.

Dogs

Oh god that's the hilarious thing.
We have two guard dogs inside when noone is home.
A chihuahua/pomeranian thing and .. some short-haired large dog.

Also Mattian, i'll let you in on the cut if you keep your mouth shut.

First off, sorry for that shite bit of luck dude,

Second, sounds reasonably ameteurish, that kind of stuff gets quick money, usually for a drug habit.

Hate to say it but they may. as Bogan said, have scoped you out a bit as well. Get your locks done, at the very least put a dummy bell box on the side of teh house and few 'Property Protected by XXX Security' stickers.

Let teh neighbours know that you got blagged as well but dont give too much details, just that some nasty bastards are in the area.

Sorry for your trouble mate, hope all copmes right

Kids. From your neighbourhood.

You say you had 2 dogs? The description sounded like 1/2 a dog and a honourary cat.

Getting stuff knicked from your house totally sucks. It makes one soooooooooo angry.

Locks

Already told the flatmates there will be a phonecall to the landlord in regards to at LEAST fitting proper window locks that restrict max opening angles, it's winter soon anyway and we're bound to have moved before peak summer anyway, so who gives a shit. Back door lock is archaic and could be picked by a blind chimpanzee wielding a stick in his last death throws and front door should really have been replaced when we moved in, quite disappointed we never got around to it.

In all honesty, be real careful, burglars tend to come back for a second go quite often,

and the second time, they know they layout of the house as well.

And if someone happens to suprise them in the act it could get a bit worse than just burglary if they freak.

not tryna scare you or anything, but just buy some window locks, chuck a few stickers on the windows about security firms etc as has already been said and be vigilant to keep all the doors etc locked,

there's only so much you can do unfortunately, there are people out there who don;t care and will try bypass all that stuff anyway :bye:

EDIT: At least you've still got your bike! :D

Really hope you have better luck than we did, had to take the rental agency to tenancy tribunal to make them put locks on the windows. Some landies just don't give a shit.

Webcams. Chuck a couple under the eaves, set up an old laptop on your network in the loft.

The security systems most NZ houses have are a complete joke. How is a dead lock actually meant to stop burglars?!

Just been to the cop shop and they're gonna do some prints on monday, hopefully.
Microsoft has been contacted Re: 360, hopefully the guy connects it to the internet and an i.p address will be flagged, and the ISP will hopefully become involved.
The entry point is known, and we have rather high suspicions on who took our shit...
A certain person we know played only 3 specific games on the Ps3 and 360, which are coincidentally missing...
So is the 5th gen ipod video. The same individual was looking for a cheap ipod classic.
And to top it all off, something I was not aware of.
Flatmate X sent a text to person Y in regards to meeting for certain things, saying he could come around later as he would be at uni until 3.30 and was leaving at 1pm.
Items went missing between that period.
He was busy later in the day, apparently.

Still without real solid proof, but I think we may have found our criminal cat, i'll update this thread after monday :sunny:

Fruit does not fall far from the tree, as they say. Good luck. Pin their hide to the wall as a trophy.

You should also hit the local pawn shops armed with police report and a description of who you think it may be....my cousin did exactly that when she had some jewellery taken and got a call from the pawn shop to say that a person matching the description given had turned up with certain jewellery items, and that they would stall them with valuations to give her time to get there....she raced down and caught person red handed :sunny:

When this happened the on-duty police advised my inlaws "nothing needed to be done" (= don't bother them), just "file an insurance claim"; explanation given was (paraphrased) "the insurers will believe only gaming consoles were taken because TVs, PCs, other electronics and so forth are readily available from the taxpayer through Social Welfare but (even) they draw the line at supplying Xboxes. Usually..."

Don't get too paranoid... niggers don't go to school, they go door knocking... nobody answers the door, they find an open window, and you already know the rest.
