There is a not widely publicised 4 km/hr tolerance level in place on the Kaimais over winter.

Watch out!!!

May as well just put fucking GPS speed-triggered immobilizers on our cars/bikes so the constables can just mosey on over and ticket us, then we can keep going.
4km/h, really?

Indeed...most seem to be aware down here. Despite what some may think, the Police aren't 'targeting' motorcyclists in this operation. They're spreading the love equally :sunny:

Oh...heads up, it isn't just the Kaimais

Last weekend's ride I saw 4 patrol cars and a camera van on the Kaimais.

I wonder how many people were breathalysed after leaving the oko pub?

I think the Police "tolerance" level on a lot of things will drop ... in all areas ...

I think the Police "tolerance" level on a lot of things will drop ... in all areas ...Yes, the gradual clamping down on anyone who isn't an entirely mindless and obedient lemming continues under the false pretence of safety. That leaves me no choice but to become more of an outlaw. It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

The real problem is that so many drivers are incompetent to drive at the speed limit let alone over it. The Police see so much more than we do of the results of incompetence that they resort to draconian measures in desperation.

They are out there daily and see the same as we do, but unlike us they actually have to deal with it personally. We can toot and swear and carry on smug in our competence and mentally asserting our superiority. They get to pull these idiots over and listen to their incompetence straight from their own mouths!

If so many drivers and bikers weren't killing and maiming themselves maybe the attitude would be different, but how does Mr. Policeman know you are one of the competent drivers/riders who can safely exceed the speed limit?

What a load of crap. In the town I live in, population 60k, you can do 55 in a 45 and 70 in a 55 (mph) and the popo don't bat an eyelid. The roads and conditions are much the same as in NZ. On the interstate, in some states the limit is 80 and if you are in the fast lane doing less than 85 you get run off the road. Other states have an interstate limit of 70 and 85 is perfectally OK as long as you are not driving like a dick.

If so, I'm in complete agreement.

Oh jesus F'ing christ. It's all over guys.
"The idea to ticket all drivers travelling at 5km/h or more over the limit was introduced nationally over Queen's Birthday Weekend last June. It resulted in a 23 per cent reduction in crashes and only one death on the roads during the long weekend compared with 10 in 2009."

Game over, they're now saying thats the reason there were less crashes. Nevermind that the weather was so collosally shit that no-one went anywhere, and of course one event means a trend as far as the media is concerned.

*sigh*.

However the NZ govt is in the crap financially, and they have discovered that we motorists are gullible enough to be threatened into paying all sorts of fines from all sorts of arcane statutes, so they can pay for their expensive internet connection etc.

A small group of people has discovered that their stupid rules aren't "law" at all and are exploring "workarounds". :sunny:

Because if I was a safe confident rider, I would be wearing a Hi Viz safety jacket!!

ACC told me so.

The reduction in the road toll on Labour Weekend last year was also due to a heavy Police presence on the roads. Those fatal accidents were more unlikely to occur in the 104 to 110 km/hr range than in the 130 km/hr plus range.

Reducing the tolerance level doesn't work.

I hate to admit it but the Aussies have the right approach here. Leave the tolerance level in place but have double or triple demerit point periods. Plus an increased Police presence to reel in offenders.

Would you ride/drive dangerously if you were going to acrue two or three times the demerit points? That certainly does deter dangerous and extreme high speed riding/driving. And lets the rest of us careful riders potter along at 110 km/hr.

And lets the rest of us careful riders potter along at 110 km/hr.I don't disagree with you, but "driving dangerously" is not what most people take issue with. "Busted fair and square" for idiotic and dangerous behavior on the road is relatively rare - what is much more common and what most people take issue with is the arbitrary targetting on trivial matters.

As for extreme riding - rarely, if ever, will you see motorcyclist coming the other way cornering real hard with his knee on the road. It's extremely rare to see a biker full-tap on the open road, or any motorist for that manner.
