Well why am I starting this? Just to remind all those that there is racing this weekend & we should do all the racing we can even if there is a spectacular Easter meeting the next weekend.

And to push a boat. Or rather a bike. A push bike I guess you would call it.

And they do, I want to talk about pushbikes. Though I think you pedal them rather than push so it is a silly name.

Where was I going with this? oh yeah; if you have a pushbike you don't mind loaning could you bring one along to Kaitoke for an experiment.

I don't have one or I would bring it.

As you know its a bit of a pain to get up to the top marshalling points. So can one pedal up to the top in leathers? - it would save time esp on way down again.

If cool we could buy a couple of trademe specials as pool bikes. Only question is whether Kart club would think it's a safe idea, but I can't see it being worse than marshals running up & down track & would actually speed up the process.

They let Andrew A ride the track on one wheel with no helmet, so they might be ok with that idea

Bring on the racing.

So how many of you run slicks even if it wet? or most of you have a second set of roadie tyres?

Real men use slicks in all weather.....

hmurphy
13th April 2011, 10:04
Nah I'm looking forward to racing in the rain! I have new secondhand wets to try out. Racing in the wet on slicks can be fun, but I know there are a few who have wets so I recently got some. Also, it's even more fun racing in the wet when you have wets because you can go faster.

It might blow over, but considering they are forcasting wet weather for Saturday and Monday it doesn't look like there is much room for sun. Also Kaitoke is known for its own rainforest climate

Rangi and I will be there (don't all cheer at once, not sure if my sunblock will be needed, hehe).
Slicks are fine in the wet, just avoid the big puddles..... and the white lines and heavy breaking and..... nah, they're fine :Pokey:

what width tyres do you guys run front and rear? 90 front and 120 rear? or is 120 to wide and dosent give enuf useable shoulder? im running fzr rim's (i think) mite be fxr

Henk

ex 125 slicks in whatever sizes you get, rear is sometimes 115 sometimes 120.
FZR rims will give a nicer profile but you can jam them on an FXR rim.

I've got the spadas stock wheels, with a 140/70-17 Pirelli sport demon rear, with the matching front. The rear tire looks massive.

I agree with Hamish this time. The weather has packed up every time the 17th of April has fallen on a weekend as far as I can remember.

I'd just be happy with having a set of second hand tyres with a spare set of rims. My rims are really too small to fit racing tyres (without spending a fortune) and they work just fine.

Can anyone tell me some approximate max speeds at Kaitoke ?

I figured maybe 70kph ?

I need to order some sprockets and would rather be in the ball park, than never get out of second gear..

According to the speedo on my buket top speed is 80-95 kph.

I'm not sure as I'm still working it out but I'd gear higher than that.
Unfortunately I'm not sure what I'm revving to at the moment but my current gearing should see 91.4 Kph at the top of top at 10,000rpm and I'm topping that gearing out.
I think it must be revving to less than that but 70 is prob still a bit low and its better to be geared to high rather than too low. (I reckon anyway)

What is your final drive ratio ?

What is your final drive ratio ?

3.36:1 but thats probably not directly relevant as the primary drive (engine to gearbox) is really low, something like 4.117:1

Great day of racing, I absolutely loved racing with decent 125gp wet tires. They were amazing! I can't believe I'm actually saying I want it to rain again at some stage to do it again (too bad the wets got a bit chewed up with the semi dry race). I am a little disappointed that I wasn't closer to the front in the last race and I don't have an excuse other than I just wasn't pushing it hard enough. I didn't slide all day.

It's a huge shame to see Sully having a rough day that was made worse by a comment towards him (not by a biker) that was totally unnecessary. You should definitely come back next weekend though for at least one of the days, buckets only.

Thanks again Fish for the huge effort you put into these meetings, they are a hell of a lot of fun and I think I need to get a 50cc 2 stroke to join the A graders who are jumping into B grade too. B grade field is huge, even in crap weather like today!! Thanks also to Nigel for helping sort the A grade guys and helping me with my bike with the tire change.

Hope everyone that crashed (and there were A LOT... as well as repeat offenders) is feeling ok and can get their bikes sorted for next weekend.

I agree, awesome days racing.
My best race was the practice damn it, but had a lot of fun the in the points races as well. Some serious battles going on.

Hope to see everyone at Easter. Two days of bikes only giving us more riding than the body can take.

Weather looking like it might be good for the weekend, so we're both keen to come down (Henk's getting pissy with me as I'm keen if the weather's good, he's keen anyway - but not on the drive lol).

Oh yes, the joy of partnerships..... I wouldn't want to be stuck in a van with you all that way either! Come for as many nights as you need, just let us know when your turning up!

Will do. People bitch about having to work/deal with me, I keep telling them, at least they can f'ing walk away, I'm stuck with me 24/7 and nothing I can do about it.
If you're meaning Henk, I was tempted to ride down as well, cause that way we don't have to pretend we like each other for 10 hours, just put a helmet on, and ride away.
Must make sure this time I put the Cd's somewhere accessible, I'll sure as hell need a break from him yakking.
No further comment, as I'm bound to be in enuf shit tomorrow when he reads this lol
