MotoGP in NZ?

From time to time hopefuls comment of a MotoGP being staged in EnZed.

This article kicks that in to the dust: "The Austin Texas facility will reportedly enjoy a $25 million infusion of cash from the state of Texas' Major Events Trust Fund--per year."

We don't want it here, leave it in countries that'll have things like commentators, grandstands, more than one place to buy food etc. Why ruin it just so the flights are cheaper?

Unfortunately MotoGP now goes to where the money is and three rounds in the US just screams marketing in this case.
Also hear they're contemplating a round in India...hardly known for a racing tradition.

The saddest part of the whole situation is a track like Instanbul who's make-up encourages close and horrifically fast racing are ignored for the likes of crap tracks like Indianapollis or stop/go go-kart tracks that are increasingly pervading the season.

india has a 125 team, and a few riders from there have given various gp classes a go. its a hell of alot more than nz has done in the last 10 odd years.

Hampton Downs is our latest track. It would be a dream come true, for many, if we could have international motorcycle road races there. It will need major changes before it can have any chance of gaining an FIM license.

Yep it'd be $300 to get in, and that's if they want to run a really big loss.

Tickets to the US GP at Laguna Seca cost me $1K NZD last year.
This was for VIP treatment for the 3 days - although not the most expensive option they had.
Still - it was truely awesome.
Hard to see how we could run anything 1/2 as spectacular at Hampton Downs.

I do think however we could try and get a trans-tasman series running.
Just like we do with Basketball, Rugby, League, Netball etc.
