Having managed to buy a bike for my son in Gisborne I now have the task of getting the bloody thing from there to either Auckland (me) or to Taupo (him). The motorcycle transport industry doesn't go to Gisborne very much and are bloody expensive when they do ($450) so if anyone happens to be passing through there with a spare space for a 250cc road bike and wants to help out for a reasonable fee, get in touch! I will be your friend for life  (but just real manly stuff....no hugging or kissing involved).

Ta in advance,

Iain

Can the Gissy guy get it to Napier?
Could store it here until you can arrange pickup.

Thanks John but not really..... failing all else it looks like a bit of a road trip (Auckland, Gissy, Taupo, Auckland) on monday for me, I'm practising sitting still and making brm brm noises for 14 hours in anticipation (car & trailer)

Send the kid over on a bus and make him ride it home to Taupo.

We have considered this, but I'm not convinced a basic handling skills course :shit: sets you up for 4 hours of open road riding, I might be wrong but it didn't seem the wisest choice to make.

Good choice, it absolutely doesn't prepare you for much at all really. Have just got my learner and have found this myself. Further training required before taking on trafffic.

Hi, try calling CBVT in Napier. They go up to Gissy with a car transporter couple of times a week. Might do a backload to Napier for ya.

If you pay for the bus ticket, I could ride it back up to Auckland for you on Saturday. Send me a PM if you are interested.

PM Kiwipeet on advrider. He is going to be coming from Gissy to Rotorua sometime in the next few weeks I think, & he does have a trailer. He has also seen the light re adv bikes so you should get on ok.

Cheers

You fight dirty.

Just for that I won't suggest 'Robert Monk Transport'

A long shot, Google is your friend.

Why don't you ride there with a pillion and then let the pillion ride back with you.

This pillion could be your son

Bad idea.
Would you expect someone who has only just passed the BHS, to then pillion for approx 4 hours (Taupo - Gisborne), only to then have to ride an unfamiliar bike back the same way? Remembering that they may not be keen to exceed the 70kph thing. Meaning probably more like 5+ hours. On relatively narrow, winding 100kph roads. Which are currently undergoing a lot of roadworks.
Bad idea.

Well it doesn't have to be his son. That's a judgement call to be made by others. However if the weather's fine, it does seem like it might have the potential to be a great day out.

All sorted.......looks like a road trip on saturday but sharing the costs with another bike that needs relocating, thanks to all for their help (especially Mstrs:love:).....I have one spot left on the trailer if any other bike needs a tiki tour .

Yellow Dog, nice idea but somewhat impractical, my bikes a single seat and as Mstrs says, shit place to learn to ride. Thanks for the thought tho!

He might actually be a very good rider, and may not have inherited certain traits!

If I were him, I'd be hitchin'! :scooter:

What is the bike? If I can persuade someone local to come, I'll ride over and we'll deliver it to taupo for gas money only. Sounds like an epic day out.

I will have you know I've not crashed a bike for at least 2 weeks..........it's still in bits after the last time

I'll wave as I go past Napier tomorrow. :bye:
