Just putting out a feeler to see who's keen on heading down this year? I haven't booked as yet so not even sure how many cabins avail at this stage, will investigate if there is plenty of interest.

If your not sure what the KB Gathering is, have a look at last years details HERE (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/121043-4th-Annual-KB-Gathering-Turangi-Queens-Birthday-Weekend-5-7-June-2010) same as last year.....

Back due to popular demand! Same as we did in '07/'08/09 and 2010 a for the KB Gathering.

WHAT IS THE KB GATHERING?
KBers (Kiwibikers) from North (Auckland/Northland/Waikato), South (Wellington/Wairarapa/Manawatu/South Island), East (Bay of Plenty/Hawkes Bay) and West (Taranaki) converge together in Turangi (Southern end of Lake Taupo) and have a bloody good time over the three days (or four if you head down earlier).

WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Friday
Some of us will make our leisurely way down on the Friday. This day is optional as the main part of the 'Gathering' is from the Saturday to Monday.

Saturday
Regional groups ride to Turangi on Saturday (obviously you wouldn't ride direct, its a good chance to explore some roads on the way there), meet and greet Sat arvo over a beer or two. Settle in for the night. There are Hot pools accessible 24hours where are staying! Nothing better than a beverage in a hot pool :Punk:

Sunday
Go for a group ride or multiple group rides (depends on group numbers) Here are some suggestions from past years; Taumuranui Saddle, Lake district - Desert Rd - Ohakune - Napier / Hastings - Forgotten Highway etc ... Please suggest ideas for rides in the thread, the actual ride will be decided on when we have all arrived at Turangi and congregate in the hot pool ...

Saturday / Sunday night have dinner at the restaurant next door and drinkies etc.

Monday
Say our goodbyes and head back home.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
Saturday 4th June, Sunday the 5th June and Monday the 6th of June. After previous year's experience some of us will be making our way down on the Friday......

- Great bang for buck[/COLOR]

YOU will be responsible for your own bookings. I have enough stuff to do in a day let alone herd cats.... :weird:

CAN I COME ALONG TO THIS GATHERING?
Do you ride a road bike? Are you capable of riding more than 1000kms in a 3-day weekend? Can you maintain open road speed? Then YES you can come. Wifes / handbrakes / pillions welcome.

I will waste my time putting up a calendar thread, please waste your time by adding your name (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=2801&day=2011-6-4) to the list attending.

Well it looks promising so far, any ideas on where everyone wants to ride to on the Sunday ride? I was thinking about playing around the backroads of Taupo - Gisborne or the Forgotten Highway again.......?

Or is this going to be another 'around the pool' affair?

nadroj
20th April 2011, 07:57
As has happened in the past best intentions of a particular ride are undone by the weather.
Best we have several options available and make a joint decision 'around the pool' the night before.
Options of different rides to attendees tastes or abilities have not detracted from everyones enjoyment in the past, so no need to feel out of your depth for the less experienced.

See you all there!

Ive just rung the 'Oasis' in Tokaanu and booked me and Qkkid our room.

Talking to the lady at the other end of the phone, they have quite a few rooms still available:
(prices and avail only an indicator, please check with the campground when booking)

3 x Self-contained units $120 p/n (2 people)
1 x Big Arse Cabin

Start thinking about where we want to go for the Saturday (for those who will get down there Friday) and more important, the Sunday ride.

My votes are for: (depending on the weather)

The forgotten highway via back through Wanganui
Meeting up with the Napier crew and escorted through their playground (like a previous time)
Gisborne via ?

What kind of piss poor excuse is that? Are you guys going to let him get away with it?

Hey Carl, there's a really cool invention you should look into that lets people contact you almost no matter where you are. Even when they can't, they can leave a message. It's called a cell phone :P

Come on, you know that being away for a weekend won't make a difference and will probably do you more good than harm. Stop making excuses, get off your arse, do what you need to and we'll see you there.

Just send the big Jessie down alone - he'll need a decent ride before he gets "older" the following week!

Any idea how many people are meant to show up?

As in... would there be a spare bunk available still?

Am tempted to make my way over and mingle with some Norf islanders in the wild....

Speaking of which, anybody want gear taken down on the Friday? I'm happy to pick up from North Shore on Thursday night or Friday morning and drop it off again Monday evening.

Not necessary. The Turangi bakeshop has a fantastic range at excellent prices. I always stop by there when they're open.

Have a good weekend boys & girls, keep an eye on Steve to make sure he doesn't try playing "Starfish" at the bottom of the pool again........

Hope the weather gods are kinder as well.

More often than not, they aren't. It's quite disappointing, and I have to resort to the truck stop. I guess I should have figured it out, when the last few times I have passed between midnight and 6am...

I won't be coming down today, had this heavy chest for the last two days (starting to lose my voice this morning) so cant afford to get drenched/cold. Thought I would of shaken it by now. (Two years back I got pneumonia in similar conditions)

Will assess the situation tomorrow.

Looks like we are going to give it a miss now. Legend is still hacking her lungs out as well. As far as the weather goes, I think today we would miss most of it, but tomorrow and Sunday look pretty dire for riding. And the trip back on Monday looks pretty grim as well.

I have hope for the bulk of the weather bomb blowing through overnight - I still think they have over-predicted and most of it will effect only the northern East Coast (BOP, East Cape etc) weather might be good down Napier way for the Sunday ride. We are hanging tight til tomorrow afternoon (I'm starting to feel better than the last 2 days) and will hopefully go down on 2 wheels.

It seems every damn Queens Birthday the weather decides to play up on us, just look at last weekend and how great it was!
Im keeping an eye on Weather Watch (http://www.weatherwatch.co.nz/content/your-official-queens-birthday-weekend-forecast) and Metservice Rain Mapping (http://www.metservice.com/national/maps-rain-radar/rain-radar-forecasts/rain-forecast-3-day)

What can I say the idea of riding 4hrs in the rain - in the hope of a nice day down there today and expecting to ride home in the rain tomorrow didn't hold much appeal in the end.

Hope I was wrong and you guys are having a great time.

At work here in Auckland, on the Sunday, remembering the trip you took us on three years ago. Thinking how good it would have been to be over there again in that weather.

Bad form you didn't get the call again. Everyone on that previous trip were ecstatic over the day they had with you.
Thanks again for the memories.
