Especially at the age of 15 too! In NZ they'd probably get a bottle of "OSH-regulation" grape juice....

Brilliant!!Thanks for keeping us informed Hels,

Excellent result for Daniel and his supporters,Not least of all Jamie and Wes Rajek and the team from wolfpack racing for helping Daniel on his way ,Oh and Peter Jones and the team from MCC for some early intervention as well and the Victoria Motorcycle club for getting him started in roadracing through their junior scholarship with some early training from Steve Bagshaw of Moto Academy,Amazing what can be achieved if everyone works towards a common goal

Yep, we have some very devoted people within racing in NZ and alot of them (including yourself Billy) do it for little or no gain personally. Its the selfless attitudes like these that gives me heart that we can keep producing more and more skilled riders in the years to come!

Why thank you YOUNG lady! Its been a pleasure to work with some of the new recruits and Im sure the others mentioned above would agree,Cant wait to see the newly recognised Prolite 250 class flourish and hopefully we will see even more young talents emerge,

Again a huge thank you is due too the following for the foresight,Knowledge and support in making this happen:

Peter Jones and Paul Stewart for setting the class in place,

Jim Tuckerman,Kevin Goddard and Peter Ramage and their helpers on the board and roadrace commission for their guidance and expert instruction too those working in the background too have the class recognised,

Jos Mason from NZBADD,For showing us all how to deal with the setbacks put in front of us and move forward despite them,You have given Me and all around me the confidence too push on and achieve the goals we set,Oh and some money!!

Without these people this class would not have happened and this opportunity would not have been afforded us

Here is a link to the very short story on NZSBK: http://www.nzsbk.com/2011/04/daniell-mettam-grabs-second-spot-in.html

Motorcycle racing does not rate highly in NZ..... Be nice if that'd change if we're going to start having more and more success stories!

it is nothing about not ranking highly, you may get it on the news if you can get a a half decent press release on it, they news may not print it, the press will not go out of there way to find this, but if you supply it to them they sometimes run it

can you find anything else but the nzsbk story, because i can not???

(ps: Congrats Ian for getting something up at least)

Yeah, I hear ya!

I do wonder about the younger generation (up and comers) not being important in marketing terms in general and if this has to do with the lack of reporting on this particular race or not?
I am a little bummed that many mainstream NZer's don't get how hard it is for Kiwi's to *make* it overseas and stories like this are great for people to read!

Well Done Daniel, & supporters.

Has Daniel ever ridden a Prolite bike?

No!We offered him one for the Nationals as I was aware he had been accepted for this Ninja cup,

But Glen (His dad) decided they should concentrate on the 125 GP machine.Although Daniel was keen as,He just wants too race motorcycles as much as he can,Awesome attitude and commitment.

Was made aware this morning by the current MNZ president that I had missed out a MAJOR player in the establishment of Daniels career.

John Connor from the AMCC was indeed the person instrumental in getting Daniel started in bucket racing at the Mt Wellington kart track and is in fact with Daniel as his support while hes competing over there.

My humblest apologies too John and his team including Keith Biddle,These guys also do a huge amount of work with the Junior roadrace scene in Auckland,We just need a link to the Streetstock/Prolite class at that end of the island and we'll be starting to make some real progress.

Guess this makes ME a liar as well now,Hope Bill and Ben arent watching,Bwahahahahahaha!!
