The following is the driver profile hierarchy from worst to best, i was stuck behind a WOMEN (asian/indian) driver with added danger factor (oldness) that was going 30 in a 50 zone with right hand wheel on the centerline with ocasional drift to left had white line then back to center. Its just not good enough, people lives are at risk.
WOMEN (asian/indian)
WOMEN (islander/maori)
MEN (asian/indian)
MEN (islander/maori)

haha i feel for you man, have you heard of the driving diseases which are becoming an epidemic?
Brake-itis, where people have a mental reaction that means the brake pedal is applied at the slightest hint of a downhill slope or a corner, yes even up hill long corners where speed is already decreasing.
there are many more that will be covered extensively in the thesis i am writing on NZ drivers

Interesting, I have some friends over here from Bangkok at the moment and they have a rental for a couple of weeks. They are Thai people and when we were over there they drove us round Bangkok and I was amazed at how courteous everyone was on the roads, and bangkok is a very big and busy town. Well anyway they are frightened driving in new Zealand, and the main reason is because of the aggressive and uncooperative nature of kiwi drivers. Bloody interesting hearing an Asian drivers perspective.

*555 them or ring 111 and say you suspect they're drunk due to their erratic driving and inability to stay within their lane

30 in a 50. How come you couldn't overtake and leave her to her madness ?

Crash stats say different, 15y - 25y Males (I'm guessing this means you) are the worst.

That has always been the case.
In fairness, though, it must be pointed out that a crash is not necessary to prove poor driving skills...

If this fellow had done something stupid (due to frustration) and crashed, say, that would make him a poor driver. But the cause of that frustration sailed merrily on, without coming to the attention of the stats. In fact, she would probably have had her driving 'skills' confirmed to her as being excellent (she wasn't the one who crashed, eh?).

I think the above comment about the Thai drivers sums it up.
Because things are much busier in asia - the chaos means every driver expects anything at any time and doesn't get pissed off. Indian drivers honk their horns a lot as a "I am here" / awareness signal - not as Kiwis / Aussies use it as a "I'm pissed off" signal.
I find asian drivers frustrating too. But I have to accept it's not a capability thing, but a way it works in their country thing which is not the same as NZ.
Put it this way - I'd be a fish out of water and people would probably shake their heads at my driving in an asian country.

1 of my work mates, an asian guy, had some awesome stories, like he came to work telling me of an accident he had where he hit another car, i said what happened, he said i turnd and hit then, i asked how, he said he chkd his mirror but culdnt be bothered checking his blindspot so just went for it.
one of my best mates, an indian, asked me the other day if a knew what a blind spot was, i said yes ofcourse as even when i didnt no the term for it (5 yeaars old) i instinctivly knew to check there the first time i got in a motor vehicle. the reeason he asked by the way, is because he didnt no. now these are just a few stories from a bank of hundreds from my multicultural friends. when it comes to kiwis in the young male group crashing its generaly not there skill of driving that is the cause, more there lack of skill in trying certian other things on public roads, like drag racing/drifting.

I agree that not crashing doesn't necessarily make you a skilled driver. But the whole point of driving is to get from A to B, crashing on the way shows a lack of skill to complete the task. And young guys are over represented in the figures.

there are always a few exceptions  , and ofcourse that list was veeeeerrrrrryyyyyy general not considering multiple factors and even then its subjective to one's perception of what a good driver is. Loving peoples opinions tho

My point, in case you missed it, was that one doesn't have to crash to be a poor driver. I'm not talking about ambition outstripping ability to handle a vehicle...which is where the 15-24yo male thing comes from.

i think you'll find that the asian drivers that have previously driven in asia and then moved over here arnt too much of a worry... Its the ones that have learnt to drive from scratch over here that are a serious problem.
My dad helped a Chinese lady (40's, 5ft 0) get her licence and every time they went out for a drive he had a new close-call to tell me about. After a year and a half of training her (he's a good driver/teacher) she would still change lanes without even knowing she had done so (no mirror checking or indicating - just a casual swerve over to another lane). She failed her restricted 4 times and her full 7 times and had multiple 'accidents' in-between.

i disagree - what seems to be intuitive for most of us (looking before pulling out, watching the road ahead, spotting potential dangers etc...) is not so for them (stats based on personal observations :innocent:).

I wonder if there are people worse than that lady. Good on her for being persistent I guess  11 fails would generally be enough to put someone off. I guess some people just don't have the mental abilities to be safe drivers

I (think) I did get your point and I agreed with it in the 1st sentence of my reply. Reading back, we may be trying to argue a slightly different point.
If you'd said "Number of crashes has no indication of the skill level of 15-25 year old males" I would have disagreed as I beleive it does. You said "One doesn't have to crash to be a poor driver" which I agree with (I know I'm a below average road driver/rider and the only crash I've had is a lowside on the track).
The point you've brought up about 15-25 year olds crashing due to pushing past their limits I agree with as well, but on top of that they also make the same mistakes other road users do, inattentive driving, poor speed judgement, failure to indicate etc

Yep. That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Oftentimes, some other poor bastard pays the price for someone's bad driving, perhaps because their own isn't too hot either.
In the case of 15-24yo males, in addition to the other faults, they use the tactile method of discovering where their ability limit lies...which is why as a group their stats are so poor.

Only recently out of that bracket myself, I often used the "go harder till you're in trouble, then back of slightly if you can" method to learn a lot of things :D
Now I'm married with kids (I should have changed my learning method a bit sooner eh - no backing off now) I only do that on the track

You also forgot:
Holier-Than-Thou (Middle-aged Caucasian).
Can do no wrong, hasnt crashed in 30 years, and drives like the arrogant SOAB he is. Causing others to crash is fine apparently, still makes you a good driver.
They are everywhere, havent taken a driving test in 30years either and it shows by their complete disregard for give way rules, and pretty much all other road rules.
Disclaimer: I'm an average, perhaps even below average driver, and have crashed multiple times. I try my best, but sometimes i get lazy.
