If I'm generalising all cops into a group...

From Stuff:
"Two police officers are in Masterton Hospital with minor injuries after their vehicle crashed into a power pole this afternoon.
The officers were travelling in a convoy of police vehicles heading to Wairarapa for an armed offenders squad training exercise when they crashed into the power pole north of Greytown about 3.30pm, police said.
The police serious crash unit was investigating and the officers were expected to be released from hospital tonight.
A third officer in the vehicle was not injured."

Is it bad that this makes me smile for some reason.

Wonder if they were "speeding".

Don't worry, i'll remember to laugh at you when you crash.

I'm hardly a "professional" driver so when I crash it wouldn't be that interesting news.

I'm going to answer yes. I have a much longer answer, but am going to stick with the short version

Fark knows, it'd be ironic if speed was a factor I guess, but I'm not seeing how karma applies? Unless the OP is going to get some comeuppance for laughing at their accident?

Perhaps they lost control of the car after being startled noticing that there was a fellow sniper in the bushes with a radar gun :shit:

Dropping speed that quickly can be hazzardous

Nooo... I was referring to the crashes that police have... Oh... that isn't karma. Well that's fail

He sure will.

I don't see how it's karma at all.
Speed is usually a factor, I have found it immensely hard to crash whilst not moving in a car.
They are trained, not professional really are they? A race driver who does so for a living is.
Everybody makes mistakes.
I want pie.

You show more restraint then i on this occasion. Good reply knowing your circumstances.

Think that would be appropriate. Don't see any reason to wish injury on anyone really.

Katman will keep us informed on that.

Please don't entice him!!! Had enough of his holier than thou dribble lately.

A professional driver is one that drives for their profession, so yes police included but unlike courier drivers the police have had professional training beyond standard/public license requirements or even defensive driving course level.

As they were traveling in a convey how come they had the accident? I await the news with baited breath. Yeah right  you will turn blue in the face before that comes out unless it was someone else's fault that is.

The only thing we can say for certain is speed was a factor, their vehicle was moving otherwise it couldn't have crashed so therefore it had speed. Well unless the power pole jumped out at them whilst they were parked.

Karma is possibly not the correct phrase but when those who have the responsibility for enforcing safety on the basis of questionable laws derived from even more questionable statistics come unstuck it is hard not to react as if there is some poetic justice involved even if the reaction in itself is unfair. Be even better if it was the lawmakers but they have chauffeurs to blame.

Pity there was injury but does sound to bad so hopefully they will be back shooting their bushmasters soon.

Rejoicing over someone else's injury should get a nice dose of it too.

Dont fuck with karma, glorify yourself after a fact. Revelling in the suffering of others is not popular with the powers that be.

Thank you lord for whacking my enemies? No

Any unfair comments and you get it next.

In a convoy? 10/4 rubber duck

I'm rejoicing over the crash, not the injury. And the injuries were minor. I'd hardly be laughing about deaths/serious injuries. The fact is they fucked up, and they act like they're Gods gift to law enforcement (well some of them do).

Laughing at other peoples misfortune is an extremely natural emotion, it's a wonder there isn't a word for it in english, but of course the colourful Germans have the word.

Schadenfreude - Pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune

If you see someone piss on an electric fence do you feel sorry for them or do you laugh about it? I'm one of those people that laugh about it. :bleh:

I always thought it was laughing at someones hilarious misfortune; more like "hahaha that dude missed the grind rail with his board and slammed his nutsack into instead", rather than "hahahaha you have cancer", cos that shit isn't funny.

I think people are taking the karma thing too personally. It's the Police force not the individuals. The same force that plays safety monitor. Also slightly funny when the enforcement group gets caught out as long as the only severe injury is to their pride.

As Big Dave pointed out (and I was thinking) - the taxpayer picks up the bill even if no-one is injured.

Your post implies the officers who crashed were part of the AOS training exercise? If so, the AOS I have much respect for and for one certainly don't take any satisfaction in a crash.

Karma for me is something bad happening to someone who has done something bad or wronged you. Since you don't know these people in the crash - how can it be a good thing? You can't just stereotype people man.

yup, darwinsim at work too probably! Which is why I reckon the pleasure is dervied more from the hilarity than the misfortune, which is more subjective of course.

Oh yeh, I can see the irony in it. Actually I guess if you look at the collective police's focus on speed rather than safety as a bad action the could be some karma in it. But even then it's an individual punished for the action of somebody else, so doesn't seem right to me.

you don't think that the police as an organisation will be embarrassed by the incident? I do especially as it happened "in convey".
The use of the word karma I will stay away from from now on as I don't think it is fully or correctly understood. Karma is more (and this wont be 100% correct) that a scumbag steals a bike, falls off and hurt himself in front of the police but the bike is ok. It is not karma when a guy steals a bike and sometime later his gran is hit by another bike.
This is more in line with the school ground bully tripping over.

You'd hope they were embarrassed, it's not really something that there is a good answer for, either a cop is a shit driver, or sometimes those stationary objects are just unavoidable.
Yeh possibly a good plan, as there are various interpretations of karma, and we wouldn't want another 'equation' type thread so soon after the last :sunny:
