 On the way back up from Tauranga to Auckland was coming up to a crest doing around 140ish and a cop came over the top managed to get down to 119 when he tagged me. Phew! Was a nice enough cop though, said there had been a serious motorcycle crash up miranda ways, anyone hear about that? Did'nt seem to notice the lack of L plate which was a good thing

Unfortunately adding to the fine i already have :-( just glad he didn't catch me doing 160 round some of the nice sweepers. Guess it will keep my head in check for now though..

There's heaps of cops everywhere at the mo. I guess the 4km/h tolerance doesn't affect your outcome. Probably just another reminder to be wary of cops when approaching the crest of a hill :shit: 160km/h on a 250 on your L plate...

The Singing Chef

had that too, and 5 months

yea there's heaps, and was only 120 coming to the hill, 160 for the long corners. Fair to say i have learnt my lesson though

to be fair at 119 you are 49 kms over your 70km/h limit so you are damn lucky not to be walking for 30 days bro. How many demerits are you on now ?

The Singing Chef

Have the fuckers put the fines up? It was only $80 when I got ticketed at 112kmh 18 months ago.

As I recall ... up to 10 km's over - $80 ... then $120 - for the next lot ...

My first - 113km/h - came with $120 and some demerits. She was coming the other way so must have done >130km/h to catch up to me the way she did.

Biggest bastard was the $600 extra excess on my insurance for the next bike, for having had any speeding tickets at all. Thanks Kiwibiker! That'll teach me to be honest.

I reckon by this time next year on public holidays we will see the 4km tolerance as normal and double demerits.

so slow down, Rossi.

The cop said the biggest he had given out was around $600 for 46km/h over the limit, that would be loss of license and probably a damn hefty fine! but i have heard that if you are going that fast they wont bother chasing you, don't no if that holds any credibility though?

Hi matty, Well well well 160 kms. Good fun bro ,bummer about the ticket. Although i wish i could ride at speeds like that. I tried so hard to push that day we went north. I get all girlie and ease off. Tauranga must be a nice cruise how long does that take you on the 250 :)

I just don't give a fuck any more! I'm old and in ill health, and also often carry a handgun (illegal, I know, but, see beginning) One day I'll just say "Fuckit!" pull it out and start shooting..........I'd prefer there to be a politician in front of me, but a pedantic, postulating prick of a policeman will do just as well....!

I believe if it was a Holden / Ford , they will chase. Reminds me of a case I heard few years ago about a cager that outrun a cop car. Helicopter has to be called.

I've seen a couple of rather persistent policeman doing high speed pursuits.

I'm fairly sure they were breaking the rules. One in particular was creating far more of a hazard on the road than the person he was pursuing.
He almost had two head on crashes going up SH16.

Would appear that some of those that enforce the law think they are above it.

Yeah, few coppers around my old area catching u-turners at checkpoints really didn't give a shit about what could've been around the corner. musta been 100 in a 50 zone to catch a u-turner, flying around blind corners and almost collecting me by a hair.
At least they're dedicated :sunny:

Yea, that's what he meant. But it doesn't work like that...
It's actually 2 separate offences.
1. Exceeding 100kph (by whatever margin)
2. Riding outside a licence condition (however they word that)
Both carry their own fine. And both carry demerits.

If the officer is nice enough, they will consider it 'double dipping' and waive the 70km/h infringement.
Not all officers are as nice, though.

Where is that red headed bastard, anyway?

When it comes to speed, I think as follows:

If I wanna speed, I do it where and when there is nobody else on the road.

I have no issue with me killing myself, but I do have an issue if I kill someone else.

That's about it really.

Hell, I don't always travel under 100km/hr. But I sure as hell don't so loony stuff on a crowded road.

Yes but you gotta separate the two infringements. The first is a licence infringement, travelling at more than 70kph. The second is exceeding the posted speed limit.

I got a 42kph speeding ticket once, but got off because it was written down as exceeding the speed limit, and I was not doing 142kph.

...I work for an SOE so State owned...did a shift overtime....paid the fine, then took a sickie off for the next nightshift. Books balanced in a governmental money-go-round! Couldn't unload the demerit though.

The new 50 km sign was well needed but I bet the cops lost a rich money earner/ticket giving spot. Even if I couldn't get off the ticket, writing a letter at least did some good.

Something about planning every single road you're going to be on isn't that great. Well I don't like it, I just think... ok I want to get to this place. And just head off in that general direction. Great fun and much more like an explorer then. :innocent:
