Come on guys - there's no excuses here. It's a full day motorcycle training day - half the day theory, half the day practical.
It's specifically targetted towards experienced motorcyclists.
It's being run by Andrew Templeton for Upper Hutt City council and they've agreed to make it FREE for us.
I'm already signed up. What about you?

At 9.00am in the morning? Probably a certainty I would have thought. However the half day theory session will sort that out.

How about if I use the theory part of the day to get drunk?

I still remember high-siding at the 'learn to ride' course with Andrew and him telling me that I would be better suited to the race track. Caught up with him a few weeks back and he was still laughing at me.... Very good and very patient man is Mr Templeton!

I've just got off the phone to Joanne. There's around 4 spots left on this course.
But they've agreed that if there is enough interest they will hold another course as well.
So if anyone is keen, give Joanne a call now.

Way ahead of ya already Riffer
I was told 20 applicants in for 18 slots so I backed out to allow another to have my place this time, and Joannes boss has agreed to pay for another session in July which I have a spot reserved for
May is just mental for me, have an event on 14/15th at Thames, got a MSAC meeting on 19th, got major time commitments already so a July course suits me far better

No. Only a "Street Talk" (NZTA) or "Defensive Driving" (AA) course can reduce licence time
Give Wayne & Chris a ring at A1 Driving School, Wgtn. Ph. 04 3877480
Email: a1drive@ihug.co.nz
& book in for the next Street Talk Course. Andrew @ Roadsafe (the trainer for these Council free courses) does the practical component of the Street Talk course for A1.. so it is done on a motorcycle.

I do appreciate the info, but I was really only taking the piss. Had my learners for 17 years and only had a 250 for about a month. I don't think I'll get too impatient waiting four months before I am able to get my full.

Oh..
The courses are extremely valuable for ANYone to do, whether you are requiring licence time reduction or not.. the skills/information learned will help you be a LOT more aware of yourself & other road users, increasing your safety on the roads, regardless of what vehicle you drive!!
The more you know.. the better it gets!! :niceone:

I don't doubt it, I doubt I'll fork out money for what I already learned crushing my leg between my bike and a car that failed to give way though.

You know what Drew, this is one of the reasons I was keen to attend a training course for experienced riders and I put on my entry form that I was keen to learn strategies for dealing when things were going incredibly pear-shaped.
Dealing with cars that don't give way is unfortunately part of motorcycling and IMO one of the things that training could help immensely with.
Good on NZTA for recognising that experienced riders want to know more about this kind of stuff and cheers Upper Hutt City Council for recognising that there are a hell of a lot of motorcyclists in their area.
I'd like to see more and more of this kind of stuff ocurring around the country, not just in the Hutt Valley.

The Council courses are subsidised by ACC!
Roadsafe are contracted by the Wellington Regional Council, as well as the Nelson, Tasman, & Marlborough City/District Councils. We have been running subsidised training courses down here for several months now, & this process has recently started in the Wellington region.. so you will be seeing LOTS more of these courses over the next couple of years, all around these regions!!!! Roadsafe also run training courses in several other areas as well.
Keep an eye on the "Course Dates" page on Roadsafe's website..
