* * * FAST RIDE * * *

Hey everyone, it has been way too long since I last did Whangamata and Waihi roads.

So anyone keen on riding this Saturday come to the Papakura Autobhan at 9:00 AM and then get ready to ride away at 9:30 AM.

I do hold rides for all paces most of the time but this time, it will be a fast paced ride. It is not a race or anything like that so no need for concerns there. When I say fast, that is going by the general standard and not fast by a racer's standard.

Weather is supposed to be good but this time I will skip on the ride if it's a wet one.

Cheers, MR.

I gotta head to the Mount and would be keen for the company.

I'll probly ride with the group as far as the old tauranga road turnoff half way through the gorge....that road misses Waihi township, and brings you out to the main highway by the Waihi golf course, along nice winding road with no cops, so, who knows, maybe i'll end up with some company a little way further......

Depends on a few things (weather, if group feels hungry or not etc). Just tag along with us for the whole way if you want. Otherwise you know my cell number, we'll hook up a bit later on. Best thing is probably to meet up in Whangamata town center. If we have lunch there sweet, if not then we'll ride together to Waihi and have lunch there.

OK - but can you please post some kind of map - or sAslex could you highlight the route...

I can find my way using a map pretty ok - and I don't want you fellows waiting for me - that will spoil the whole ride....... naa no need to be polite - I'd feel that way if I had to wait for someone on a fast ride and I will have less pressure to catch up.

Saul, you'd be about right with that ETA in Kopu Mobil.

Just got home - spectacular day - perfect weather - apart from the start where there was some horrendous fog......

Managed to stay on the group tail for most of the morning and a bit of the early afternoon then decided to cruise on by myself......as I was by now a bit behind
Ended up doing the coromandle loop - isn't 25 the best:love: Love the twisties from Whitianga to Coromandle :2thumbsup: -Passed quite a few bikers coming in the opposite direction - all of us smiling like jackasses:devil2: - and the rest of the way was also primo especially the coastline twisties.

Finished the ride and got into the Bombay Autobahn for a bit of a snack about 3pm enjoyed an ostrich burger - very nice - do recommend you fellas try it

Then headed off home - bike began to start back firing a bit worse than it had lately and gradually got worse and worse:no:

Here we go again:mad: -- gently rode it to Erik's house to get some advice -

Sure enough in 2 mins he found the fault :not: - one of the rings like things that connects the exhaust to the engine had come loose and was hanging on the pipe..... a gasket like thingee came off and the exhaust gases were escaping causing the ridiculous noise......

So I;m gonna needa the exhaust ring thingee gasket - don't worry - Erik the great took a pic and I can put that on display ..... hopefully one of you nice fellas will have it - or maybe one of the wreckers......

I hope I don;t have to wait for it from Japan -- already waiting 5 weeks for my little rubber elbow......:oi-grr:

Oh well - will start a new thread about it..... (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=278568#post278568)

Thanks for a great ride MR - but next time make sure there's no fog goddamnit:cold: .......

What a fantastic ride! :Punk:
Weather was spectacular most of the day except for the thick and :cold: fog through Hunua on the way down. Roads were a little damp in places until we reached Whangamata, by that time all the roads were fairly dried out. Had a delicious lunch at Whangamata (I heard that the lunch lady got a little stressed with the influx of KB customers?) and rode through to Waihi where we gassed up and returned back along the same awesome twisty roads!

Good to ride again with the KB crew. Around 21 bikes turned up at The ABahn. Was great to ride again with some familiar faces. From memory there was MR, Loosebruce, Quasi (nice green machine u got there!), V Twin Raver & Co. (nice Fireblade Mal, and good to see your partner along), JSG, Saslex (hungover...sheesh!), MikeL, SPman, Paco (be great to see some of that video footage dude!), aff-man (welcome back to bikes!), GixerBoy, NinjaBoy, dveus, 6Chris6, dss3, mv-senna, enigma51 (sorry about your mishap at the Autobahn!), Warr, oldfart, slob, stifarms (sorry to hear about your puncture man), et al.

Just got home after being on the bike for over 7 hours and am totally satisfied with my weekly fix! I'll sleep like a log 2nite.

Highlights:
MR being stopped by the fuzz for having his knee down! :msn-wink: jk
The sound (& look) of Loosebruces new Two Brothers pipe. Oh and a few nice wheelies from him too!

Zed's rider of the day: Warr for his overtaking expertise on his 1984 Yamaha XJ900! :shit:

Until the next KB ride guys & gals! :wavey:

You're not f'n wrong there mate, you did bloody well on that thing, nice riding mate.

Nice to meet oldfart and your mate on the R1, and all the usual faces to go along with that. Was a killer doing that ride then having to go to work which i just got home from now, has been a long day. But a good one, roads were good, still with the cold not alot of grip out there even in the dry compared to the hotter weather.
Dss3 and me had a good blast into Waihi and then on the way back he took the gixer for a blat, i'm sure he'll fill you in, but on our way into Whangamata we both saw a group of gixers 2x1000 and 1x600 heading the other way and in our rush to swap bikes, turn around and chase em down all i heard from him was fuck thats awesome i'm buying................. and we took off on a mission only to find them stoped just round the corner, but they were a good bunch and akld based so they said they will check out the site and hopfully come out a few rides with us. Just what this site needs more gixer riders.

Cheers for the ride everyone!

It is a shame about the incident at the begining of the ride but oh well...

I ended up having a ball! Still getting used to the 400 and it feels quite very awkward but I need more time. Then after jumping back on my bro's 750 on the way back I was so much more relieved.

It was pretty cool to get pulled over by a cop for going around a 85K corner at about 150 or 160 and not get a ticket. I thank my luck stars for that one! (he basically didn't have his radar on so he couldn't do me for anything, plus I was very honest and polite so he didn't try to hassal me further).

I woke up at 6:30AM yesterday, went to a mate's place on the shore, went on the ride on the little 400 all the way to Waihi and blasted back to Auckland with the fast boys, then I got to work straight away till midnight, then I went over to see a mate till 3:30AM. So yea, pretty long day yesterday for me so I"ll take it easy for today. I'll prolly go and clean the bike since its a nice sunny day.

It was good to see you all yesterday. :)

P.S. Impressive riding on the GSX250, Deveus!

It looked so weird - you must have been doing a fair rate of knots - but looking at you - it seemed as though you were doing 40kmph.....

Just recap... Is Loosebruce the guy on the TL with eyes on the butt of his leathers...?
Kopu-Hikuai, 1 wheel, r/h side of the road... did bit of an unhealthy wobble in front of an on-coming truck.
I'd rather not see that too often

Hmm i dont recall any unhealthy wobbles on the Gixxer, should've seen me on the TL, the gixer shakes a bit when putting down if slightly crossed up but nothing that had me thinking not normal and if i am on the RH side it's because i'd rather not pass you or any other rider with my front wheel less then a metre away from your head, i always give space between, and if there are any on coming veichles i WILL ALWAYS make sure i have enough room to put down and pull back in safely, i know my limits and my ability and ride accordingly, and if or when i do try and push the limit i do my best to make sure it's only me who's going to suffer when shit goes wrong. The last thing i ever want to do or have to live with is taking another rider out or hitting another veichle and hurting an innocent road user.
So I am very sorry if you frown upon my riding, as always i do not mean to offend in anyway and i always try to keep it safe for others (and me), i'm not and have no plan on being a dangerous rider and anyone who rides or has riden with me knows this.

On a side note though WARR you should get ol Frosty out on his XJ and teach him a lesson :) i was most taken with your pace on the XJ, top effort, hope to see you out on more rides soon.

Maybe if you ask nicely William might let you "borrow" the R1 for a ride. He must be stoked with that bike though, it's bloody nice eh for a yamaha that is, hope to see him out on more rides.

Thanks there for the words of explanation. I'm not finger pointing by any means, and am happy to believe you know what you are doing :)
Was my first ride with you guys and I'm still stoked about it today. I make no claims about my skills or lack so thanks for your comments.
I've never considered before doing track time, but after mixing it with you guys.. mm well will have to see.
I looked at the smooth lines Quazi was taking and felt a bit envious. Mostly tho I was envious of the grunt that new bikes have away from corners.. There was no hope of passing anyone there. So not holding back I passed who I could on bits that wern't so straight.
Great ride MR and the rest of you KB'ers.

Two weeks wait, not too bad mate, see ya out there soon. Leathers are good alright, i've been down the road a few times to know there are worth more than what you pay for them.

WARR the track is awesome fun, FROSTY is running a track day in december, all types of riders catered for is a great day and a good way to improve in a controlled enviroment, meet new faces, get tips and help. If ya can't wait till December trackdays at Taupo and manfeild pop up quite regularly and most of the time more than a few KBer's will be heading to them. And to say riding with a group can also do wonders for your riding as you were saying watching Quasi and his lines, alot of people learn a fair bit this way.

Never said it was hard. Did a few ok ones (40 deg+)on that ride on sunday.... but i'll lend you my machine if you lend me yours :devil2: :devil2:

p.s. how do you do it without a clutch.I have tried the "bouncing method" and it didn't work to well and forget just under power cause wacking it open in first just gets about 2cm if that........

Oh and with clutching it up i can't find a balance point (yes i am a wuss) so i tend to hold it up with the revs.... and then run out of them. Maybe the new stiffer shock will help with stabilising. Tried a stand up once and then bike just started wobbling all over the place and didn't come down too gently

AHHHHHHHHHHHH once again the lack of sacasm over posting presides. When i meant nothing to learn i was kinda hinting at the fact that with the gixxer thou you can open the throttle and she comes up.To make it smooth and get a balance point etc etc all takes (especially that beast) large amounts of skill.

I think i am going to take my sarcastic mood and go hide in a hole this is the second thread where i am being ripped into.
