If wet:
Stoner (fastest man on the planet - on MotoGP bike)
Rossi (v fast in the wet even on the ol' bad duke - won't make the same mistake as last time)
Hayden (good in the wet and at this track - needs to prove he can do well without the help of everybody else crashing)
Simoncelli (in fine form - won't make mistake of last time)
Lorenzo (leading championship - keeping cool - thinking about final EOY result)
Crutchlow (hopefully finger not a problem - wants to make his mark, and will soon)
Spies (I think he is after a top-3 position for the year - won't make mistake of last time)
If dry:
Stoner (fastest man on the planet)
Lorenzo (2nd will be easy, keeping it safe)
Spies (I think he is after a top-3 position for the year - won't make mistake of last time)
Dovi (needs a good result and has good pace)
Crutchlow (hopefully finger not a problem - wants to make his mark, and will soon)
Pedrosa (dark horse - I expect he will need a bit more time to recover but will then be winning races).

So haven't you guys been reading anything?
It's all about the fuel allowances, Simoncelli's bike has cut power before the end of the race to conserve fuel. That gives the midgets a big advantage.
Even Stoner is on record as wanting the fuel alolowance increased to 24L.
"Stoner also decried the electronic controls, saying that he spent most of his time working on electronics setup rather than anything else on the bike. When asked if that was due to the fuel limits, Stoner said they definitely played a part, and he was vehement that the current limits had no part in racing. "Why do we have these limits again?" Stoner asked, posing a rhetorical question which is echoed by the vast majority of MotoGP fans. His solution was simple, clear, and vociferous: "Give us 24 liters!" he demanded, but the MSMA seem currently disinclined to listen." This from Motomatters

Pedrosa had his Honda do it last year too due to an era. I don't think Stoner is moaning about Dani's weight...more about the bikes should be allowed as much fuel as they want from a power point of view. Another thing Stoner has said, is that he thinks it's tough on Dani mid corner from a traction point of view. So Like I say...it all balances out.
Last thing we need is another fucking rule fucking with the sport. There's always been size differences...but not many people moan about it.

I agree with the sentiment but if they dropped the fuel restriction, currently 21 L IIRC, there would be one less rule and the playing field would be more level.
Something of a worry - Dorna have engaged more experts, hopefuly not to help with new rules but...

Marco Simoncelli has shown that his fast time in the morning session at Estoril was no fluke by taking top spot in FP2 for the MotoGP class. The San Carlo Gresini Honda rider just edged Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo, who was in turn just three thousandths of a second faster than Repsol Dani Pedrosa. Valentino Rossi ended the session in 4th but with an identical time to Casey Stoner, posted right at the every end of the session, and from directly behind the tail of Stoner's Repsol Honda. Stoner threw a little fuel on the fire at the end of his lap by turning round to Rossi and tapping the tail of his Honda, insinuating that the only reason Rossi set that time was thanks to a tow by the Australian. Rossi's strong times earlier in the session would appear to contradict such an accusation, however.
Monster Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards set the 6th fastest time, finishing ahead of the once again impressive Karel Abraham, the Czech rider putting his Cardion AB Ducati into 7th, ahead of the factory Yamaha of Ben Spies and the factory Ducati of Nicky Hayden. Hector Barbera rounds out the top 10 on the Mapfre Aspar Ducati.

Yeah. It makes it look like Rossi is bitching about the Honda being faster than his Ducati...which is odd when you check the top speeds of the bikes...

Yeah how 'bout that!!?? I remember when Stoner was kicking arse in 2007 on the Ducati...and it was only because the bike was so fast. You'd think Rossi would do the same.
But anyway...how well did Dani go??!!

So far this season Rossi has achieved in underlining just how bloody good Stoner rode the Italian bike.
The last 4 races of the 2010 season that he finished, Stoner went 1st, 1st, 1st and 2nd. That is on the machine they are now trying hard to make competitive in 2011 - with Rossi and JB on board. :innocent:

Dani did well. And has put himself right into the frame.

Very well. How good was it to see him open the bike up on the last few laps!

Yeah. A nice bit of race craft. Looked like he was doing his best - but was saving himself for the last. A well earned win. Mature race by Jorge too.

Rossi... "so he had me do all the work for 28 laps before making his attempt, and he got me by twenty-five thousandths."
It's called racing.
Your quote is a little selective, to give the comment the proper context it was preceded by this, " Dovizioso obviously rode a race that was strategically perfect. I think he played with me a little, knowing that on the straight, he could probably beat me to the line. "
Which makes it look rather different?
Yep, and I remember Doohan being a lot less complimenatry towards Creville when he did the same thing back in the day.

Top speed is one thing though, and getting there is something else. The Honda could well leap off the turns a bit better while the Duc could be more top endy, hauling arse on the latter half of the straight. There are lotsa ways to get round a race track quickly.

No argument Stoner is farkin' amazing (although not as amazing as his missus, couldn't have a MotoGP thread without mentioning Adriana ) but to be fair he had 4 seasons racing the thing, wheras Rossi's had 4 races.

Being fair - do I recollect correctly, that on his very first ride on the Ducati at Qatar, he blew the socks off everyone? :innocent:

What a great race and Dani proved me wrong when during the proceedings I thought he'd eventually fade. When he wick'd that Honda up Jorge did'nt have an answer (Yamaha should be worried)
Biggest dissapointment was Simoncelli was'nt there to really spark it up.He will get there eventually and experience would of told him to cool it after both he and Stoner had plenty of warning in the first corner.Gotta love a charger tho cos there's never a dull moment.:corn:
Casey rode a good race and with this year looking increasingly like a Honda benefit the more points a Simo or Rossi can steal off of the two current front runners the better his championship challenge will be.

Yep. Doohan uesed to moan and groan all the time about that. Funny eh. As far as I'm concerned, if you're better than the guy you're accusing of simply following you, pull, the pin and fuck off. Nothing at all wrong with hanging with the guy (s) in front of you until the last moment and putting a pass on them so they have no time to do it back to you. It's called RACECRAFT.
You know how bikes get good top speed down straights eh mate? Drive off the corners. That's why the best race tuners strive to find torque more so than outright hp. Torque = drive = speed.
4 seasons? How many did Stoner have on the Ducati before winning the Championship? Oh that's right...1. Stoner also had poles, and podiums on his first year on the satellite Honda...a bike he'd never ridden before, in a class he was new too.
Being fair - do I recollect correctly, that on his very first ride on the Ducati at Qatar, he blew the socks off everyone? :innocent:
And beat Rossi in only his second year in the premier class, setting a fair few records along the way.

No...I did see that mate. But that's not the only reason he's not enjoying kissing her!
And yep. I too was pissed of the mental WOP binned it. Was looking forward to seeing him go mental up front.

Context is golden.
Dani rode a good ride, jumped out of my seat when he got past Lorenzo. Can't wait to see what he pulls up once he is fully race-fit.

Teaming up Stoner with Pedrosa looked like a possible recipe for disaster but it's starting to look like a masterstroke. Has Dani ever ridden better?

Nice article.
Amazing though Stoner is Pedro's been riding that Honda for a long time so if there's setup problems you've got to think he's at an advantage.
Can't remember where I heard it but some commentator was talking about Lorenzo last year when Rossi was out injured beginning to get frustrated with the M1 but as soon as Rossi came back and was quick he just had to STFU and ride. It seems like the same deal with Stoner and Pedrosa... one of them's always on to it so the other just has to knuckle down and go.
Respect for Pedrosa.
1. He is still recovering from serious injury
2. He is not a whinger and moaner. I am not sure but I don't think once he has complained about dangerous riding by other riders or accused others of following him etc etc

But he's often taken himself out while leading, taken out his team mate, probably had complaints against him, and until he crosses the line, I wouldn't put any money on him. He's also had a lot of pressure put on him, where they've expected him to do better than he did (i.e. take out the championship).
In saying that, I do like him and hope he goes really well this year. Then again, I was pleased when Stoner won his first race (but changed my tune quickly afterwards lol).
I think it's on the Faster DVD where someone comments that racers are rarely at 100% fitness due to injury, and that is becoming more the case at the moment (there are times when it seems a total exaggeration as no one's really riding injured).
Ah well, so long as Stoner or Jorge doesn't win the championship this year, I'll be happy.

Smart money says one of them will. As blindingly fast as Pedrosa is, he's not often enough to win it. I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong though. Several different champs in several years makes it great!
