See the ESE thread - KX80 stator and rotor, Ignitech ignition. Ebay for the stator/rotor, Ignitech for the Ignitech.
Follow their lead and you can't go wrong!

I think he was implying that a std one would do. Sounds like a good time to onsell your old kit around the ESE shed.

I just bought one on line but kx80 ( a 2000 model so hope thats ok ) not the flash one.
now I need the left hand engine case, the one that covers the ignition side of the engine. Not a very technical description but you get the drift.

They can be a bit hard to find as they crackup around the clutch release mechanisim, we have repaired one or two of ours that have cracked with a 1mm metal plate and lots of Araldite.

When you get one make sure the outer cover and all the clutch release bits including the brass ferral that fits in the lever and around the clutch cable (as seen in the picture) come with it, if you can.

I don't have the standard one at all, just a space where one needs to be

It should be good, the crank keyway and original ignition timing marks all line up,(yellow line left hand pic). So its real easy to get started and the trigger fits easily into the case as well.
From memory the only things required is to turn down the outside diameter of the stator plate about 1 or 2mm and turn out some of the inside so it fits over the main brg oil seal.
237751 237759
The bad thing is:- Unlike the other KX80 ignition that uses the trangular stator and has a fixed firing point, your ignition has some inbuilt retard and its unlikely that the curve that suites the KX80 will be perfect for the GP.
But the good thing is, it will run OK and later the ignition trigger can be used with an Ignitech programable and the HV coils re-wound to charge the Ignis battery.
So all in all it looks a good start.

you need this if you want 18+hp (and to read the E.S.E thread)

Modify them as per page 200 and you can have 22+rwhp.

I have a 1996 RS125 pipe hanging from my garage wall and was hoping it would be a good place to start, but thanks for that.

It should be good, but it might need some modification to get it to fit.

I have had a lot of success with an early model Honda RS125 Pipe, it was fairly easy to fit. A little modification to the header flange and cut and turn the midsection. I left the GP's port at 36mm, the pipe is 40mm, the resulting step was intentional.

I notice the rubber spigot you use to mount your carb in that picture, is that a standard GP125 piece (or similar to it) or did you need a bigger rubber mount to fit the flat-slide carb?

You will have to ask mr. TZ that one and I will be interested in the answer also
No not original GP, the Keihin or OKO 24 uses a slightly bigger manifold, I just lucked onto this one and have been looking for some more and was hoping these might fit. http://www.alexwarehouse.com/okovm26-inlet-and-rubber-adapt_p330.html

ditto although at this stage I'l be pretty happy if they just turn up!

or you could try a Gsx400 spigot, common as (most wreakers will have a few) and will fit these larger carbs nicely.
Has anyone had luck with Alexwarehouse and not had to pay the stupid extra low volume fees???

Can any one tell me how come the one in the middle is different, is it from an earlier model or a different bike?

Same bike, different year, some of our bikes came with the smaller head, we prefer to use the bigger ones for their extra thermal capacity.
The funny thing about air cooling is that it is more efficient when run hotter as there is a greater thermal loss from a hotter surface than a cooler one.
But there is a difference between rejecting waste heat efficiently and cooling capacity, this run it hot sort of efficiency is not much use to a racing engine that needs to be kept cool so it doesn't lose power.
I think both the 100 and 125 use the same cylinder head casting but more of the gasket face is machined away to make a smaller combustion chamber for the 100.
All the GP100/125 cylinders look the same, but I suspect there might be some differences in port timing. A 56mm cylinder is for 125's and 50mm for 100's.
The cylinders are directly interchangeable as the cranks and cases are the same, the only other engine difference is in the rotary valve timing, rotary valve cover and carb. A 100 cylinder can't be bored out to 125 as the liner is wasted and breaks through.

It really is quite incredible that teh japs spent the money on different castings, - heck I wouldn't have bothered. Maybe they thought it was a crucial styling update.
