View Full Version : Adjustable levers?

With adjustable levers like this:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Parts-for-sale/Brakes/auction-372310617.htm
What part is adjustable so to speak?
Like say for the brake lever. Does it adjust the reach? So distance from handle bar to lever.
Or does it adjust like how hard or soft the brakes are.
Its hard for me to explain.
Hopefully you guys know what i'm on about.
The reason why I ask, is that i went and test rode a bike, and asked the GF to have a sit and she can't really reach the levers, and i was hoping to teach her how to ride confidently.
Thanks.

See the little red anodized clicker, that adjusts the 'span', or reach, of the lever. So those with smaller mitts can easily reach the lever, or adjust it out to stop fingers getting trapped etc.
Anyone had experience with the GPone brand?

Take a look at something like these
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=extend+levers&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Adjustable for reach, for the number of fingers required and flip up if you crash.
I use them on my race bike and they've been wonderful so far.

Not sure about the quality of those but I'm more than happy with the parts I've brought from that trader

Problem with the shorties is not everybody likes using just 2 fingers. I always use 3. Less is just wrong.

Just need to adjust the reach a bit shorter for the GF.
Prefer full length levers.

Went and test rode a MC19. Seemed to fit well. Took for an inspection etc and checked out all good.
So i bought it.
25kms on the clock. Everything points to them being legit so hopefully they are.
Your bike worked out to be a bit out of my price range once transport was taken into account. Sorry dude. If i could've scrounged some extra cash i would've got yours. Looked mint. Thanks for all the help though. Surely someone will buy your soon. Price is low for such a minter.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Parts-for-sale/Brakes/auction-371822577.htmA mate buys these in bulk from japan. Near as I can tell, most brands come from the same supplier and are branded after manufacture.

Yeah the auction says "CNC machined made with aircraft grade 6061-T6 solid billet aluminum".
By my brief search pazzo levers are made from the same stuff.

By my brief search pazzo levers are made form the same stuff.Woodcraft are identical to pazzo ones. Perches and shit are all interchangeable.
Brembo are about the only manufacturer whose bits wont fit anything but.

And if it gets pushed ... or falls off the sidestand ... or prangs ... it's the first bit that gets bent.

I'm sure you've come across incidents on the 'net of levers causing accidents, namely the cheaper knock-off's. On another forum I frequent a guy recently had his front brakes lock up immediately after fitting a cheap lever to his bike. The indent where the push-rod sits wasn't finished properly and after only a few miles down the road down he went. I rode a GSXR250R with a lever from a normal GSXR250 fitted that caused the front brakes to lock on me in the middle of the Moorhouse Ave overbridge, luckily I kept the bike upright. The lever was sold and fitted by the local dealer, they were aware it was from a different model, but everything looked fine.
So yeah it's just a lever. But when it controls things like the brakes, the most important part of any motorcycle, then it takes on a more serious nature.
I'm not saying all the knock offs are of poor quality, plenty of people have had no issues with them. But it pays to be aware of what you are buying.

For reasons like this i am in two minds about buying them.

That's what happens when 'tards fit stuff. Brake levers need freeplay, simple. Any 1/4 decent mechanic would check that regardless of what lever he/she fitted.

Totally agree. But it happens, and mostly only with the cheaper stuff. 'tis all I'm saying.

Are the expensive ones just the same levers but called GPone?
Or actually better quality ones?
I guess its hard to tell without someone buying them.

Ask him where they are made.
Problem here is many of the $300 'name brand' ones don't state where they are made either and are quite possibly made in the same factory as the $80 ones. Only difference is a laser etched logo.
Plus they are all bloody knock -offs of each other now in design - just using a different market blurb!

CRG (http://www.constructorsrg.com/about/index.html) and ASV (http://asvinventions.com/Unbreakable-Levers/) are made in California, Pazzo (http://www.pazzoracing.com/company.html?id=2) in Canada and the USA.
Yes the ASV site doesn't state where they are made but I'm told it is in California by one of their retailers.
The guy selling those GPone levers say they are made in china.

i've seen quite a few of those cheap black with the red adjusty thing on them fail in a variety of ways, and most seem to end up being really floppy and the adjusters doesn't work. Why you'd want an adjustable clutch lever i never know.
I run these, Ex italy (where all good (and expensive) things come from). The extra flash ones are adjustable for both span and the fulcrum position, so you can change the leverage ratio.

I fitted a set of Titax levers from Fastbikegear not too long ago and they are awesome levers. $295 for the set and i'm quite sure the quality is good. They fit perfectly with no play at all.
I always think the cheaper you go the closer to trouble you get. Somewhere in the middle might be the right option.
Ended up buying some chinese ones of trademe. Should arrive in the next few days.
I didn't spend bucketloads so if they are shit im not gunna be too pissed.
Will report back once arrived. Ended up buying shorty ones as no-one seemed to have full length ones for my bike.
