found this, and thought it looks pretty cool.
Looks to be a touch pricey, and could be not far off the cost of the real maccoy, but there is always the time when it'd cost too much, or just not be right..

They've also got a 'sale' on at the mo, doesn't look too expensive, so may be a few peeps could all pile together

some body give me my dinner back

Its just what is the point of using fake carbon fibre, just to make it 'look' better, and give you 40hp?

As Ive always said: Carbon Fibre/Kevlar has "the wank factor" ie, lighter ,stronger, space age etc etc but fake carbon is just plain wank

For a while now I've toyed with the idea of trying my hand at carbon fibring...is it something the average backyard DYIer could manage?

I would quite like to make a hugger for the CBR.

Yes, hand laying carbon is the same technique as fibreglassing but the materials are a lot dearer & when learning you will make some rather expensive mistakes

So it might be a better idea to start off with fibreglass and then when I get good at that move onto carbon fibre.

Any idea where to buy the fibre glass stuff from?

Correct, once you can fibreglass PROPERLY, its all in the technique, practise, practise practise,[I got a job in the industry for 2 years before I became proficient at it!!!] then move on to carbon. I buy my supplies from Nuplex, here in CHCH
