k, so riding home tonight from work. Normally I walk unless there's a danger of rain, in which case I ride the 5kms to work. Today as I step foot outside, looking for an excuse to ride, a bigass rainbow is ahead. K, sure sign of rain, grab the lid n gear, and I'm off.

No rain all day, but blue skys. So wanna go out and cruise, but don't. Feelin ok tho..

End of the working day comes (hurrah), and the gear is don'd for the 5 minute ride home.

Pull into Northcote road and filter thru about 5 cars to the front. Oh look, Mr Plod is at the front in the right side lane. Really not fussed about it, but know I can't gun it off the lights like I'd like to, I sit and wait for the green light. Glance around a few times to check my parimeter (sp?) and see that he's on the radio. Probably a bike check, no worries. On the radio a couple of times after, not paranoid. Nope. Anyway, yellow lights on the other side, my go next. Knock into gear, green light, then a car shoots past me, obvisouly running a red. Glance back, and the cop is starting off without even looking.

I cruise at a steady 48-50kph (not giving this guy anything) and stick to the left lane. The cop pulls into the left lane behind me. Traffic builds up ahead, so I move to the right lane, and I'll be turning right onto Barrys Point road anyway. Get round the corner to the junction, and flick the right indicator on. The copper pull infront of a following car into the right lane. 'kin bring it mate.. Calm as a coma, I see what's going on now.. I turn right and still take it steady. Get all the way to the lights on Esmond Road, the one just before Lake Road, and the lights go yellow ahead, so I (still calm as a coma) pull up to stop. Then 2 cars fly past me in the other lane, blaightenly (sp?) running a red light. Oh look. Cop still behind. Light goes green, and I see he's on the radio again.. So I'm ready for the disco lights, when I see the traffic is stopped at Lake Road. So, still comatised, filter to the front, as I did before (a change of attitude would surely show discomfort and guilt), then the lights went green so I merge and carry on. I can see the cop jumping from one lane to the other to catch up. I pull off the road chuckling to myself.

Then after putting the bike away and taking off my lid and jacket, I went to check the mail, to see the same cop trawling the streets!!!!!! WTF!!!!

What have I done wrong? If he wanted to have a word, or there was a call on an 'orange bike' (even tho he had checked my plate), then why not pull me when he had the chance? Instead of following me for the whole journey, cutting up other drivers and ignoring 3 cars that run reds, just to follow me to see if I fuck up? Didn't even get a wheelie in for fek sake..

sorry, rant over. But this just pissed me off. There was no reason for what he did, over other people breaking the law (and speeding past me. Bet if I got to 55 he would have pulled me) etc, and me riding like I normally do.

I expect I'll see him again, and I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled me when he gets the next chance....
grrrrrrrrrrrrr just fukin winds me up

/rant.

If I was you mate, I would have put the sidestand out when he was behind you blocking his path then get off my bike and confront the fuck on why he is following you like you are a criminal and why is is not enforcing the law on those running the reds...

Actually this brings me to another point which really fucks me off - cops that do not use their indicators! I was behind this cop the other day who failed to use his indicator in 3 different situations.

[shrug].There's just some cops that really really hate bikes and bikers. He wanted to get YOU , not anyone else. Happens.

And I'll bet he was PISSED OFF that he couldn't find something to nail you on.

Yeah, you better keep an eye open for him, especially being a distinctive bike.

Pissses me off though the way the cops won't take any action about people running red lights. Anyone who doesn't believe that's more dangerous than 61kph has to be insane themselves.

well since he was on the radio couldn't you find out who he was and lay a complaint!? comms must know who he was by the fact he called in your bike at said time and place etc.

It really aint on when cops dont stop people for running reds, its fucking dangerous and could easily result in a death. The intersection I think your talking about where esmonde joins Lake is notorious for it, but do you think they will monitor it? I doubt it, unless we tell them the red light runners are doing 61km/hr

You should have known from the moment you bought that bike that you would be the target of girly jokes, strange gazes, and suspicious cops!

Then again, it may all just be a figment of your imagination BJ!

Bummer about the wheelies though...

When you say 'filter through traffic' are you talking about lane splitting? I thought that was illegal. Or am I wrong? I thought one would get jumped for passing on the left or something to that effect.

I have $400 proof that they don't have to have a reason to pull you over and can make something up to ticket you on.

Frosty - I'm not fussed that he didn't give me a ticket (believe it or not). I'm fussed about the fact that he ignored several real traffic voilations, just to tail me, and never actually did stop me. If he wanted to admire my bike, fine. If he wanted to give me the 15 minute wonder, then fine. If he wanted to ask my bra size, f'in fine!!!!! But don't waste time following me, when there's people running red lights, driving too close to the vehicle in front and people speeding right past him, and people cutting up other drivers. And for him to be the one doing some of this too.. pfft.. I hardly saw his reg plate, he was too close most of the time, or backed too far off. When we stopped at the lights, I was just glad to loose the looser.

I want to be clear here, I have nothing against cops. But when they're waiting for the small things, it's a bit pathetic when they could actually be really making a difference.

'Possibily', don't want to guess here, but there was a complaint in regard to your manner of driving given that he picked you out. He then followed you, confirmed it was the same bike which was why he was on the radio and saw that you were driving fine. Alternatively he could just be a cock who hates bikes, who knows.

Also knowing the road and the level of traffic on it, he would create a major road jam if he tried to pull you over or anyone else on it.

Red light runners are a major hazard and are being targetted, i had a colleague the other day take a camera down to a certain intersection in Auckland. Within 1 hour he had on tape 40 drivers blatantly running red lights not to mention those who speed through oj lights.

Don't you guys know that in our brave new world, if you wear your seat belt and don't speed you are a safe driver.
Get with the programme people!

I had just left work. So it'd be a pretty quick call from people who were miles away that I was riding bad, for me to then meet a cop 20 seconds into my trip. I don't think you can even get thru to the cops in 20 seconds, can you..??
nope, fairly sure it wasn't that..
