Mounting of plates more closely specified. (http://legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2011/0079/latest/DLM2938369.html) (Pay attention those with plates facing sideways or in front of the rear wheel being obscured at any time by the tyre...)

Demerit points for certain vehicle registration and licensing offences. (http://legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2011/0079/latest/DLM3613751.html)

I'm sure there are many other facets to this that I haven't covered.

I worry about handing over my black plate...as if they are going to give it back to me.They will say it's now obsolete, and give me a nice new one.

A glance doesn't show anything unexpected, which Max Preload summarises. I do wonder what the working definition of 'duplicate' is though

If the registration plate or plates are surrendered, the Registrar must, on expiry of the exemption, return the surrendered plate or plates or, where that is not reasonably practicable, a duplicate plate or plates.

same lettering, same coloring, or just same shape  Only says may require though, not too sure how often it'll happen, but with the amount of shit I have on hold, I'll find out soon enough!

That's the one that worries me - I'm kinda keen to keep the old black plates on my XN85.

Or did I misread something?? (again!)

I'm sure the same plate will come back, it will create a nightmare tracking the history of vehicles if the number keeps changing every few months. Its going to be a hassle going back to the same shop to pick the plates up, especially vehicles sold on hold then shipped outside their region. Just another thing to check.
