Just wondering how hard it would be to find a willing mechanic to take on an apprenticeship for a female that owns a bike, wants to get fully into it, but has not a lot of mechanical experience?? Any ideas?

Approach all of the shops in person, show them how keen you are to get into it. Maybe do a course at Weltec or similar first.

you would need to find a shop to take you on, but we always have at least one apprentice on, be aware that all is not wonderfull in the MC industry at the moment so alot of shops may not be hiring extra staff, but this is not just a MC industry issue either

As the Crasher above says, take a brief CV around the dealerships, be polite, their may be nothing that they have at the moment but ask them if anything comes up to contact you,

Also Manakau tech does a pretrade automotive course that a couple of my guys have done, it is not a bad grouding and will help with teh MITO credits if you get a apprenticeship,

Firstly I think you need to stop thinking about the "I am a female" issue..... I know of a chick that got a mechanic apprenticehip at Classic Cycles down here in Upper Hutt cause she knew her stuff.

As CFWB says do a Weltec course or approach the bike shops. Whatever you do just go for it! Good luck!
