Can someone recommend a good brand of 2 stroke oil and where the cheapest place to buy it would be?? Basically if it will make a difference I will buy more expensive but I donīt want to īburnī my money :devil2:

Oh yeah and its for a Rge150 1998 model. (I read somewhere today the 2000 models are much more likely to blow up)

I'd recomend Yamalube as the best oil for the best price...but you own a Suzuki - sorry 'bout that.Silkolene for me,but you won't like the price.

You'll know you haven't bought an up to the job oil when your motor seizes,so it pays to err on the side of caution. All the oil you buy off the shelf will be up to the task,if you want better quality you will have to pay for better quality - it's the way the world works. The Yamalube is semi synthetic and is one of the best oils you can get for your dollar, and it's good enough for Yamaha, they won't recomend a crap oil for their bikes and then put their name on the brand. You could also try mower shops, the chainsaw manufacturers also market quality oils with their brand name on.

2 stroke oils?? Having just got a little RD50 for buckets I will be needing that stuff from time to time. Can anyone tell me whether marine 2 stroke oil is any good in a m/c (I have 2 litres of the stuff & no boat)

I ran a Kr1 250 two stroke for many years many using semi-syn oils. (mainly Mobil as you can get it at most service stations)
I got caught short one day and ended up putting in a run of the mill BP 2 stroke.
The bike seized about 300 kms after the top up. Can't say it was the cheaper oil, but $4k after a rebuild I put nothing but the best in after that. Let common sense be the judge.

Shell VSX is pretty good stuff. It's $55-60 for a 4 litre bottle and it's fully synthetic so it's pretty good value.

Outboard oil is usualy run at 100:1 premix,I think the viscosity is too thick for injection, but should be ok at say 33:1 to 50:1.

Ran it as a premix in an Evinrude 70 @ 50:1. Oil is Evinrude/Johnson 'smokeless'
XD25 - exceeds NMMA TC-W, TC-W11 & TC-W3, - whatever all that means

Yep supposed to be pretty good, been running it in my race bike and haven't had any problems, I know a couple of other 125 racers use it aswell. Not too heavy on the pocket either.

I always ran Castrol TTS in my smokers, $20+/L but it seemed to do the business.

Cheers

Castrol R2 is excellent. Waikato yamaha stock it an thats the only place in NZ i've seen that has it. Havn't been everywhere though. It's only 2 or 3 bucks a bottle more expensive than castrol tts so why not?

Elf Moto2 XT Tech $26/litre full synthetic, very clean burning, injector okay used it in my NSR250SP for many years.

Elf Competition 2 stroke, not injector friendly but cheap at $13/litre perfect for premix.

I used to buy from either (Hamilton) Extreme Automotive or Te Rapa brake and clutch who bring in Total and Elf products

I found TTS to run a bit dirty and more likely to leave bigger carbon deposits but still a good oil.
Word of warning don't go lower than a 40 weight oil for injector use, any lower and the pump can't flow it properly.

Ive always used shell advanced vsx2 because it cheap and i use a lot of it without any problems.

But if you want the nice smell get castrol tss. :niceone:

Another vote from me.
Seems good stuff, and much cheaper than the rest.

Hi, theres few good oils about! depends on money basicly! but here s quick run down! if your engine doesnt have power exhaust valves? then you can use a good quality mineral 2 stroke oil like PM. But if you do have a engine with power valves? then go for a semi syntheic oil and if you have a fairly high performance power valve engine? then basicly nothing less than a 100% fully syntheic 2 stroke oil. The best brands like motul/castrol R/castrol A747/silkolene Pro.
then you have the castor based oils which are better for racing coz of anti wear, like Putoline/shellsport.
A good range of reasonable priced oils also made by USA - Amsoil.
oh yes regarding marine oil in bikes? you can if you like? marine oils are very similar but must meet enviroment laws, were bikes dont have to, i would only use marine oil as a last resort and at a higher oil ratio, as you have never heard of a engine blowing up coz it ran rich!!!
as for pricing? ask some guys into racing 2 strokes they usally know the best places.

used to run TTS castrol in an Aprilia RS125. But the TDR uses Yamalube semi stuff. Works a treat at about $36ish for 4 litres.

If in doubt, go talk to the suzuki dealer on the terrace, they'll put you right.
