Try these guys.

www.martinsigns.co.nz/computer_cut_vinyl.

You want Premium cast. It is more expensive and needs 24 hours for the adhesive to cure, but it is the best.

Area to cover? Colour/s?

I can't necessarily give it away, but will help if I can. Can also deliver in person at Vic meeting if that's not too late...

I'm writing off Rnd1 and will just go with a plain white bike.

Basically going for that classic RC30 red/white/blue look on a NC30 so need quite a bit!

I'm happy to pay and will give that place in lower hutt a bell, just not sure how this works. Do I just buy a roll of this stuff and cut it myself or do I need to draw up all the shapes and give it to the sign company?

If it's essentially just stripes, do it yourself. Do you have any idea what (we) signwriters charge?

What you do is measure the maximum length you will need, then buy a slightly greater length of 610mm wide cast vinyl in each colour you require. It shouldn't cost you more than about $20/m each colour.

My curiosity has overcome my natural desire to not appear ignorant.

EXACTLY what are we talking about here ?

Is this

stickers for promotional purposes ?
a complete covering to replace paint ?
a covering to protect paint ?

If 2 what are the advantages ? Is it some sort of shrink wrap ?

#2 really Wharfy....you know my green tank on my ZX6R...its actually blue underneath. Means I don't have to repaint it when I put my bike back into road trim :-)

what would it cost for vinyl for my tank? I have a spare black tank that I could do with just the red top bit and maybe honda logo? My current tank has a big dent in it with some paint chipped off/ scratches so can either fix that or use my spare black one and vinyl over the top to look like this http://www.motorbikespecs.net/images/Honda/VFR_400_R3N__NC30___Japan__91-92/VFR_400_R3N__NC30___Japan__91-92_12.jpg

any idea of a cost?

Haha nope thats me..my bad...have sold a lot of my spare parts!:-p. Don't suppose you know anything about dent removal and/or vinyl wrap for a tank?

MSTRS

Vinyl wrapping a fuel tank would be a very hard job to get right. A really clever person, with 3 pairs of hands, a heat gun and a lot patience MIGHT be able to do it.
Mask and paint = much easier.

I've clear vinyl'd the sides, front and top of a tank before. Fully agree much easier, but cost wise...probably a fair bit more...though how much would one realistically pay to just get the top 1/2 or so of a tank painted red, possibly the dent knocked out if I go with the already damaged tank? and then 20$ or so for honda wings

By clear vinyl, do you mean the anti-scuff stuff? Which you would have put on in shaped pieces.
I'm assuming you want to apply vinyl so that it looks like paint? ie - no joins etc. This is the problem on an object like a tank...all those compound curves. Vinyl will stretch and conform, but only up to a point. Starting with a largish single piece of coloured signwwriters vinyl, chances are, you will need to cut away some of the 'spare' vinyl, which means you have an overlap join somewhere/s on the tank.

Hi!
Actually applying vinyl to the tank is somehow easy to do, with no over lapping, and would cost less than paint plus it wont scratch and peel off like most spray paints do.
1M of matte black x 1.2M sheet will cost about $36.60 (including GST) and that is more than enough to wrap a whole tank, with some left overs to do smaller pieces.
To wrap a whole tank will take about 1-2 hours.
Only thing when wrapping gas tank, make sure you clean any Petrol drops straight away DO NOT LEAVE THEM THERE, it will reduce the life of your wrap.

PM me if you need any help and guide regarding wraps.
Cheers!

Hey Luke.

All the vinyl you need is available from Signwriters or Signwriting Supplies in Petone, just look in the phone book.

Have a go yourself or get a pro to do it. Simple stuff is easy enough to do with a spray bottle of soapy water, a hairdryer, towels and maybe a rubber squeege and patience. A tank requires a bit more expertise if you want to cover the whole thing.

Henshaw Signs in Porirua are experts and VMCC sponsors and will do you a good deal.

Call Mark Henshaw and tell him what you want to achieve.
