reading all the small accident posts i though naarr, that'll not happen to me...then as i was riding, ultra slow in pouring rain 10mins ago,.. up a driveway with two small lanes of concrete w. grass in between, went round a tight corner, front wheel goes round then arrrgh over she goes. back wheel dropped 4 inches into a muck pond in the middle strip and got stuck. then i could hardly get the bike lifted...driving rain...then when it's up, exhaust covered in mud and me wondering is the clutch handle supposed to look like that...the back wheel is stuck spinning...roll it forward and back and the hole gets deeper...eventually got it out by going sideways. get soaked, got muddy, grrr, but i think bike is sweet...no fairings oh my gaad the KB crew was right about the no fairings for learners thingi...so no more high and mighty for low down muddy surfchick

Sadly, its a fact of motorcycling that you will drop your beloved every now and then. Mine has now gone over 3 times since I got him, so hopefully that's the end of it!

He he - nah that would just compound the general public's (i.e. chauvenist pigs) attitude that girls can't ride!

that sux! if it's any consolation, at least it wasn't onto concrete where it'd scratch everything up to buggery.. the mud is a little more forgiving..

till today i always thought those were the coolest driveways. two perfect strips of concrete and a small flat grass line in between. minimal, austere-lovely. not anymore. i'musually really carefull on this drive cause its long and goes round to a back section reall tight- but i was late today, it was pouring and i was tired and grumpy. then had a mud puddle shower and got grumpier. but no damage to da bike i don't think (not that i know. was in a bad mood and rammed it in the garage :)) the only other accident i had on a bike was on a farm where I was on an ag bike riding on a riverbed and rode onto a small patch of grey sand while turning. fell off in front of a van load of hunters. boo hoo. i pretended nothing had happened, picked it up and stood in the river with a massive burn on my calf from the muffler...
i don't think my future in bking is off-road :devil2:

When we bought our house two years ago it had a very steep gravel driveway leading up to it. I took one look at it and said there was no way I was going to take the risk of riding my (at that stage) four month old BMW DOWN that, so we decided to get it concreted. We looked at two strips of concrete but found it was going to cost as much as having it done full width, so that's what we did. 400sqm of concrete and the cost of a decent new bike later, one lovely driveway, the envy of all the neighbours and the delight of every rider who comes to visit!
I dropped my bike at a WIMA rally five years ago, I was wheeling it backwards along a narrow concrete path and the back wheel went over the edge. I wasn't expecting it and I lost my grip on the bars and over she went. Cost me several chocolate fish... but I got a big cheer from the crowd watching!

oh no-i hate the looking dumb on a bike in public- yes it's unavoidable when i;m actually riding as i can't hide my un-coness. but i always try to look cool driving off-in control-that would have been a funny moment in front of the punters. luckily my mudbath was an "all to myself moment" privately shared between me & my bike

I'd like to think that it's one of those symbiotic relationships between woman and bike. So...you must have said she was wearing the wrong shoes or something - so she took her revenge by dumping you in the mudbath.
Of course, boys may prefer to see it as she took you mudwrestling...
...whichever way, I'm glad it was just rain & mud at low speed and not concrete & gravel at highway speed hon. And at least you were on your way home (hot shower) not 'out'.

At least it ain't that bad. Like you said, it would have been a lot worst on the pocket if it was a sports bike with a lot of expensive plastic bits.

Let me know if you need a spanner or shed to straighten stuff up...
Hate to say it but yes... it happens to us all... I dropped the RF one time... wheeling it backwards and the rear tyre went 1/2 up onto a block of wood...
200kg of bike lurching sideways while I'm sitting on top of it... not good!

Doesn't seem to take much!
No, I haven't dropped the VifFerraRi, but came close(ish) last night. Was backing it out of the parking gargre in the parking gargre at work [no, that's not a mistype - we have a gargre (complete with tiltadoor) inside the parking gargre], when my left foot suddenly lost traction. Was a squashed milk bottle cap on the concrete. Man, PE is VERY slippery on smooth concrete. As is squashed softdrink can on asphalt...

Yay. I was in an exclusive club and I didn't even know it.Yes drive ways are quite underated in their hazardness's. Nails, mud, potholes, dog shit, ice, low flying magpies, dead cats, you name it. The open road is much safer :ride:

What a pack of amatures, Fliped an offroader buggy over twice then slamed it into my wifes car that was parked at the bottem of the drive!
If you'r gunna make an ass of yourself, at least do it properly and take out every thing in your path!

Bummer. Still, you were safe, no damage except to dignity. Happens to everybody. You haven't dropped it taking it off the stand yet. You will. don't sweat it.

29th June 2005, 21:12
Arghh, I feel for you. I dropped the Virago a few weeks ago, mine was locking the front wheel on the wet grass verge outside our house. Had to get the other half out to help me lift it, with the curtains twitching discreetly up and down the street.
Still, it's a good reminder about how quickly things can go wrong on a bike, even at low speed.
Glad to hear there wasn't too much damage, to you or the bike. And the pride and ego will recover pretty quick! :ride:

Thought he'd show off to the girl next door by trying to jump the wooden gate in the centre. Quite funny to watch, I was polishing the GB, as he slipped and landed square in the middle breaking the top rail. Fitted a new galvenised one yesterday. :2thumbsup

My VFR750 fell off the sidestand and onto the father-in-law's car. Did nothing to the bike, but cost me $500 to have his front guard panelbeated and painted.
