View Full Version : Bike features that make you go, hmmmmm
What are some interesting features that have come up on bikes over the years? Doesn't matter if they are shit, purely aesthetic, engineering, whatever. With pictures please
I'll start off with the Single Sided Swingarm
<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2463/3942981388_a4ffdc4d43.jpg" />
and the bmw telelever front end for good measure

On a GN250 for noobs for sure. Other than that...WTF? alright.
Purely asthetic would for me be a cut out clutch cover and bling pressure plate, pointless but something different, asthetic but also completly bike changing would be the advent of aftermarket rims.

They were fun to ride for sure. I eventually got mine well sorted enough to run 20lbs boost on pump gas with water/methanol injection. Top gear wheelies with smoke pissing off the tyre at the same time.
Engine that doubles as the frame, girder front suspension, radiator under the seat, carbon fibre wheels suspension and bodywork, made in NZ.

Self Cancelling Indercators
That's going in my annoying list... especially ones that you can't de-activate the self cancelling (ie, mine). Want to change more than one lane? Lane split? Do two lefts/rights with some space between them?
Check your indicators first... the bike might have decided to switch them off

Slickshift by Triumph ( 1959).... sounds like a good idea... disengages the clutch when you operate the gear lever...... saves the bother of using the clutch lever....not so good if your riding along and wonder if your in top...

Very pretty though sadly more famous for being responsible for the closing of a well famous German track so that the water and oil flowing from every possible place that water and oil could leak from a motorcycle after one decent lap could be cleaned up,the rider simply pulled up got off the thing letting it fall to the ground and walked away muttering "a complete shitbox" in German.

I'm going to give this a try next:
Headlight flasher activated garage door opener circuit. Simply take your existing key fob / mini remote (the one you can never operate through your jacket when it's raining, fumbling trying to get he garage open) and with a flash of your highbeam, voila - an open (or closed) door. I reckon no more then $7 all up in parts from jaycar.co.nz. Will let you know how it goes!

Pity about your last example. It was only good because it was different. Other than that...it was a heap of shit.

Neat idea, though I just carried the spare door remote in my jacket pocket. Easy to activate without needing to fish it out, too.

I don't know about bikes...
But the Bugatti Veyron has to be the best pieces of kit I have seen.
If they could do that for a bike then we would be cooking with gas!!
Although you can keep the $17,000 price tag for the tyres though...
(Or make them longer wearing than 6000 miles)

Isn't that the S1000RR? Not quite the top speed of the veyron, but better power to weight ratio.

Traction control, not my favourite track tool, but has saved my ass plenty of times on wet/cold NZ roads

And I just realised it WON'T work with my triple. The flasher switch cuts the dipped beam to turn on the high beam
