Oh dear, the route they have indicated is not the Coro Loop
A little irresposible enticing all and sundry for a 'ride around the loop' without any safe guards etc.
Not a good start eh

Must admit, I did think that myself. I thought the 'official' loop was Kopu, over the range, north through Tairua, across at Corromandel Town and back down the coast road to Thames. I've only ever gone as far as Tairua (cos the inlaws live there and they have fridges full of piss) but other riders I have spoken to over the year have said that's the route of choice.
I suppose the route they are proposing is a loop around the Coromandel so it depends how picky people want to get.
At least they didnt show us a map of the South Island, eh....

Lol. First swing by Moto NZ, first miss.
And if we're taliking the real Coro' loop, there's nothing wrong with it. Except for the fact it's two way traffic and treated as a racetrack by some.
Good to see MOTO NZ getting bikers involved, hope its a good and hassle free turnout for you.
The one thing the nitpickerer in me noticed on the flyer was the pillion position, I always thought it was best practice for them to sight down the inside of the riders helmet.
Thats the half loop, the other half loop is the top half loop and combine the two you have the full loop, not to be confused with the figure 8 loop which is both the top and bottom half loop but in a figure of 8 loop. Easy peasy.

Then there is doing the 'loop' twice otherwise known as loop da loop

I've never ridden it so no idea myself (being a lowly Wellingtonian and all)
Wonder if I bring my gear with me if I can find me a rider to pillion with, none of my bikes are on the road at this point of time damnit!

I'm between (road) bikes at the moment Stoney otherwise you could have come for a skid with me. May be able to do something for the next one.

The weather affected attendance, it is true but a few hardy souls braved the ride and came to eat our food
Highlight for me was meeting the Aussie roading engineers that do the improvement work on Vic's black routes
These guys are pretty cool, NZ road makers need to learn a lot from them, some very easy cheap fixes to common issues out there

Maybe not
From www.motonz.org.nz website
"With the advent of MOTO NZ, a collaboration took shape. This was just the sort of project where motorcyclists’ views would be valuable. So we began work with NZTA and the outcome involves direct large-scale rider input on the loop connecting Paeroa, Waihi, Whangamata, Hikuwai and Kopu around the Coromandel."
"This loop is a popular one for riding motorcycles. Unfortunately, its 130km of road have seen 23 riders seriously injured and seven killed in the last ten years. Nearly all the serious crashes have happened on just 36km of the loop."

regardless of how many guys/girls have been injured/died on the whangamata/kopu/paeroa loop (the petite loop), as far as i have always known and considered, the Coro Loop goes thru Whitianga/Coromandel.
It's a bit like saying - lets do the The Paihiatua Track, and riding thru the Manawatu Gorge - it's close, but not actually it.

Consider what you like, still doesn't necessarily make you right.

Why are we paying to tell them road snakes, naked barrier posts and cunts that cross the centerline are bad for bikers health?

Sigh.... WE are not ... NZTA is
WE are providing our collective knowledge but MSAC is not footing the bill for this project or its outcomes.
We are making some contribution in covering the costs of our own involvement and some of the research costs. (Read carefully SOME)
MSAC are merely providing advisory resources and supplying the resources for Bikers to provide the feedback requested, eg the feedback forms on the website.
So we utilize the MOTO NZ website to publicize the events, and to get the feedback (that is a small cost, granted) but NZTA paid to bring the Ozzie's over, NZTA will budget any costs for identified improvements....
I for one am 100% onside with this project, of all the idea's I have yet seen I think this is the one where we get to show TPTB that we DO care about our own safety, and its a chance to change the way road makers make our roads.... for the betterment of all of us on two wheels!
And that also includes you Pixie, you get a genuine chance to have your say but if you only choose to rant at the unfairness of it all then you continue to paint the image TPTB have of us as it is.
I still don't appreciate the levy hike either my friend but this sort of project is a good chance for US to prove WE are part of the solution NOT the problem..... Small comfort, but its the simple truth of the situation we face.

It wouldn't matter what someone did, someone would find something to bitch about.
Isn't it just good that there is some effort at improvement being made? Good on them for their efforts. I bet they chose the route in question based on some sort of evidence, as the public are likely to be wanting accountability, and MotoNZ is likely to have to justify their decision making.
If you haven't got something constructive to say, don't bother.

Stoney- how did the first tentative run go from an administrative point of view?
Is the information gathered close to what your looking for?

The feedback we have received is extremely useful and very eye opening
cant say much more than that tho matey as I am not an official spokesperson in my role with MSAC and dont want to tread on any toes or make any misleading statements, but i deem it a success.
You can still ride the loop in your own time and fill in the form on our website
http://motonz.org.nz/moto-nz-action/coromandel-loop/
I think we learned a lot about how to host these things as well, maybe the next one will gain more public interst....
I still say the highlight for me was meeting these Aussie guys and seeing the changes they have made in Vic, simply astonishing how much thought went into making their roads safer for bikes
