View Full Version : Creating a new club?

Hi interested to hear everyone comments on the best approach to creating a new club.
Should it be a sc, rc, or mc, do I need to contact the main 1% clubs. We will not be running a three piece back patch it will only be a one piece patch.

Why a new club? Tried the existing ones and want something different??
Mate, going off and seeking 'approval' from the 1%'er estabilished 'clubs' seems like your asking if they will Let You forma club? Proly not the best start - assuming you arent looking to compete with them?
You are talking Club, yeah? Not something else??
Why would you need to contact the 1% clubs? Are you going to be dealing in drugs and crime primarily? Oh I get it, this is a pisstake right?

Hi definitely a club only, just tring to do research on how to create a club and lots of sites say you have to ask the 1%. Most sites were in the states so this may explain.
I want the new club to be able to wear a patch without having it ripped off them

Make it yellow and black horizontal stripes.
I hear that's available.
So I have a VT500 Honda. Will I be able to join your club or is there certain criteria that need to be met? Serious question.

Sorry must have and use as your main form of transport a Harley sportster powered motorbike.
Hog is more for the big vtwins and guys with lots of money, I think the sportster is one of the most under rated bike around. Yet it's such a versatile bike.
OK. There is a section here just for this thread called Hogs and other cruisers.
Me, I will ride anything I can, not biased to just one brand of bike. Good luck with that.

Ahhh k.
Assuming ur serious, wanting a bike club only, not an outlaw or 1%er club or gang or whatever. And for whatever reason, the current clubs arent your thing.
Make a club. keep it informal - u might want to incorporate it as a society or whatever whatever one day - but perhaps wait a year or two to see if the club idea still works for you first?
In NZ, from all I have heard, no backpatch gang looks at a sidepatch club as competition or a problem. Per se. So you have no risk of your patch getting ripped off you for that reason. Ok, theres lately been a story of a HOG or Ulyses guy getting his side patch taken off him up the far north (last year?) - but this wasnt from any bike club/gang - just local pricks.
Best way to meet the current clubs and members - turn up to the rides, poker runs, that are held yearly. mix n mingle. Most side-patch clubs these days are very different from the back patch clubs,.
Dont ride a pink colored bike, no sparkly red tassels off the bars.....you'll be fine.
Oh yeah. Restrict your membership - otherwise idiots join, think theyre Gangstas, and ruin your club rep. And then you run the risk of the gangs taking an interest. Or the boys in blue.
Just a thought tho. If you are riding in a group and you all have patches on, people will think you are a gang. Clubs don't do this, only gangs. So bear that in mind.

ThanK Jaffonajappa and laava I will keep that in mind.
I have been to a few ride and while there are a few clubs out there I want to offer something new and different. I like a lot of you people use my bike everyday rain hail or snow so were about riding not just weekends

What you do is man, Go find some Tribesmen or something, ride on up and get off your bike, find the dumbest looking fucker you can see, and give him a good smack in the face, then run your little titties off.
Thats step one to creating a 'Club', this is how you seek approval from a 1% gang/club.
Step two is a little more difficult,
If you dont know how to do it, Dont do it.

Start by offering to suck dick for one of the bigger gangs. Once youve taken it up the arse enough, theyll lt you start your own chapter.

Well, why does it need a patch? you want to have the image, and membership restrictions of a gang, but not deal with the stigma of appearing as though you are a gang, hmmmmm yeah, nah. why the fuck cant you just have a 'motorcycle' club, why restrict to one type of bike? Theres nothing different about a 'you-cant-join-because-your-bike-makes-too-much-power-per-litre' clubs, nor about the 'my-harley-is-worth-more-than-your-harley-cos-my-whores-sell-more-ass-and-P-than-your-whores-do' type clubs. wanna be different? then try and do something thats actually different

Maybe your patch can have a warning label reminding the rider to adjust his suspension for his overly inflated ego, and another that reminds him/her not to use their machine on any road with corners, Harley's should only have flat squared away tyres.

Just do it
Get a group of yourselves together and start riding. If you are dead keen on going the whole front patch/logo route then about the only thing to keep in mind is to avoid having the initials MC on the design and keep it off your back.
Other than that you're golden. Personally I'd give it a few months before going the patch/logo route, you need to make sure that the group is going to go the distance and from personal experience I can tell ya that when you give people an opportunity to have input in the design of something like that they will faff about for fecking eons...
Send me a PM if you want more info. We are in our 3rd year now and I can help ya avoid so me of the pitfalls

Okay, chicken and egg scenario.
You'll find that Tigertim20 is a real bike enthusiast - he likes all bikes, and rides with anyone. He rides a cruiser on occasions.
By looking at setting up a club which is only open to those who ride a very specific make and model, it would appear to be you who is elitist. I don't think it will take off, but good luck to you.
By suggesting a club whose primary focus seems to be to ride your bad-ass Skirtsters around with bad-ass pseudo gang-patches on your backs, you're going to be ridiculed - get used to it. The fact that you think you need permission to do so from the other bad-asses makes it even funnier.

Thanks all for your ideas and feedback.
To answer some of your question re why a specific bike make model etc. I feel to be able to offer a better club you need to stay specific and focus, opening up to everyone makes it hard to share technical knowledge, swap parts run swap meets bike displays etc. I have done many rides with groups from hog to pink ribbon and they are all very friendly but lack something
I just happen to choose to ride a sportster,

If you want to form a Sportster club - fill yer boots mate. Put an add in the paper, in the local HD shop window or on trademe etc, good idea, why not. Even if you founded a Sporty register under HOG - I mean why not?
However, once you put a club insignia on your back you are into a whole different place and you would have to be dreaming if you think otherwise. Sure, ulysses and hog dudes sort of get away with it but seriously - who are you trying to kid....
If you want to join a bloody gang - do it, if you want to be a sporty fan, you dont need a patch (in fact you will turn a lot of people off)

Just a start with a few interested Sportster runs. Post up on here for a start - Sunday morning run or something. If you start to get a bit of interest you can get a badge made up or armband or something.
Just build it slow with like minded people - gives you a chance to weed out the tossers!
A good place to start would surely be you local HD dealers - ask them if you can stick a flyer on the counter/window organising a Sporty ride.
And for the KB neigh-sayers. It is possible that his guy is on to something - I've seen quite a few attractive ladies riding Sportys - he may be increasing his 'shag' chances here!

Thanks for that, but I don't see the relevance of an American web-site about motorcycle clubs - or all the stuff about patch-holders, tribalism, 1%ers or brothers. Seriously, is that what you're into?
You're right about HOG - they can be incredibly elitist - I know of a couple of Sportster riders who have found a certain level of snobbery in there.
By all means, set up a Sportster club for outings and support - but don't worry about the superficial paraphenalia and role-play stuff - you'll just be creating another HOG. And you don't need anyone's permission...
If you want real cameraderie that doesn't involve the superficial, get involved with a few regular rides through KB. Sure, you'll get your leg pulled about your choice of ride - just like Virago riders - and anyone who rides a Honda - but you'll find some really nice motorcycle enthusiasts who simply enjoy biking.

People join clubs / groups all the time that share a common interest / make etc. It's only elitist when you go round telling everyone how much better than them you are, and unfortunatly, you get them on all types of bike.

Theres Guzzi clubs, honda clubs ..shit theres even vespa clubs :woohoo:, don't see why a sportster club/group wouldn't work.
But drop the "patch" & "1%" mentality, it could backfire! (no-pun intended )
EXAMPLE:
I had a huge "200mphr club" patch on my jacket years ago, had a car load of blackpower pull up beside me on my 73 triumph trident...Then I saw the sawn-off sitting in there lap :shit: they gestured for me to turn sideways so they could read the patch clearly....honestly thought they where gonna blow me away.... Sold that jacket to the leather shop in palmy the next day.
........Somethings just arn't worth the trouble for the love of biking :scooter:
Darn right 2.
Who the fuck is the MCC who ride crappy jap bikes called the Spool riders? WTF is a Spool anyway, sound like some thing that you find between your toes.
You probably want to keep away from both the affiliated and non affiliated motor cycle clubs, they probably wont want you pissing in their patch and you don't want to be associated with them in the long run. It will be very likely they will think you are taking the piss, if so watch out! If you organize a Sportster run probably best if you do it under the HOG umbrella as they have a large membership, just ask the local road captain if he is cool about it and go for it.
Some of the responses here from jap bike owners just reinforce why Harley riders look down their noses at jap owners. Just a bunch of bikers doing fundraising work and lots of eating. Why MC? Cos Fat Bikers Motorcycle Club sounded funny at the time and it seemed to fit.

Cool.
I've my own Honda club like that. I'm trying to see if I can claim back some club expenses on my tax! Sometimes I allow my mates to ride with me too even if they own Suzukis, Triumphs, HD's and other inferior brands.
Heck I've even set up a mirror in the shed so I can check out my own leather clad arse - hey it is a Honda club so one has standards to keep up to.

:(
I'm out then.
Pretty funny read. I'll join up if I ever have enough money to buy an XR1200 (that still counts as a sporty right)? I want the XX which is all black if that helps.

Great read, my outfits identical to yours, ever thought of a Franchise deal.
One advantage of being President of the club is you can also be the Sargent of arms which is the serious side of the business. The club had an incident where a can of chain lube was sprayed all over the clubs two bikes. The code of conduct required a serious punishment and therefore after a signed confession my two young sons were found guilty and banned from the garage for life. Fucken Ah.

Tigertim2O you are the exact reason why I choose to ride with other like minded people instead of people that think they are better than someone else, I respect all riders regardless of what they ride.
Fatt max depends who you ask my wife or my friends
If youd looked at the bottom of the post, youd have seen it was a pisstake,
Having said that, Why the need for yet another 'club' surely there exists a suitable club in your locality that fits your basic needs? unless 'like minded people' means 'wankers who only want to hang out with people of the same type of bike'
And yes, Id be saying that if someone wanted to start a 'Yamaha R1 club' with associated patches etc etc.
Your going out of your way to try and set up a club with the style, imagery and machinery that mimics 'cocksucker gangs' as i like to call them.

Instead of a patch, why not make it mandatory for all members to carry on their person a furry, pink strappy handbag?
or 'pro gay marriage' T shirts, that will show you're not a 'gang' and that you have a point of difference!

Sorry must have and use as your main form of transport a Harley sportster powered motorbike.
Hog is more for the big vtwins and guys with lots of money, I think the sportster is one of the most under rated bike around. Yet it's such a versatile bike.
WOW I was sorta taking this thread seriously until I read this post.
Are you for real? How narrowminded can you be?
FFS!
Sportsters only?
Do you really think you are that special that you need to have a club?
For the record I am a huge Sporster fan but even when I owned one I never had a issue with riding with big blocks(...or anything else for that matter). Whats yours?
Oh and since you say "Harley Sportster Powered Motorbike" I guess that means Buells are acceptable ? YEAH RIGHT.
hahahahahahahaha I wouldn't want to be in a club that has such narrow criterior. I ride with all sorts and am HAPPY to do so.
Seriously, why don't you try that approach?
And sorry for having a go at you when I have never even met ya but I am just gobsmacked...
sportster
11th May 2011, 14:42
Buellbabe I am serious and sportster powered means sportster powered so yes Buell are included.
So why the restriction, I have never said I will never ride or be seen with other bikers on other types of bikes, I plan to still ride on charity events etc this will never change.
I think some people are missing the point in that all I am trying to do is get a group of people who share the same enjoyment for the same type of bike together. Call us what you will. This group of people can now share there knowledge and experience with each other as it has relavance to what they ride.
I have two sportsters one been an ironhead that to some is a peice of crap to others is a great bike. Trying to find someone real and not just in a forum to ask question share tech tips etc is hard in a open bike club.
If you are new to owning a Buell and something goes wrong wouldn't it be great to be able to visit a website or call a club who has a group of people than can offer a resolution to you problem. Sure the Stealership is there but as the bike get older they dont really care, your left to troll the interent for a fix.
Just my thoughts
