Front wheel spacers. Which way?

i had to replace my front wheel berrings for a wof but i completely forgot which spacer goes on which side.

can anyone tell me which side the big and little spacer goes on.

for example. wide spacer goes on the right side when sitting on the bike and short spacer goes on the left.

just so i know which way you were facing when telling me left and right so i dont get confused lol

oh its a honda cr250rr 1991 bike forgot to mention

You've got a 50% chance of getting it right (or wrong) try it what ever way round you pick and see if the brake disc lines up correctly into the caliper, if it doesn't they go the other way

well got my wheel on and bike rides fine and brakes work but im still not 100% sure they are the right way and jacking a bike up without a bike stand is hard and not keen to sit there for hours taking the front wheel off unless i know its backwards.

i think the wheel isnt in the middle but hard to say because not sure what it was like before

seems like you have quite a few things you need to get looked at on this thing of yours. Now I dont say this just to be a cunt, but if you cant diagnose a minor thing like brake lights not working, or which way the spacers go in, perhaps you should use a mechanic, OR get a more knowledgeable mate to help you out with stuff and give you some pointers so you have some guidance and can learn a bit more as you progress

Hey, iv had bikes for like 6years and my older brother has had them for almost 10years and im a car mechanic so i have knowledge, just doesnt seem it because i ask stupid questions lol but better to ask if im not 100% sure.

i fixed the brake lights somehow both switches needed the plugs cleaned or something, everything is all fixed and got a wof but im paranoid i put my wheel on wrong because i didnt remember what side the spacers went on. it looks fine and rides fine but just paranoid there on the wrong side. if i had a proper bike stand to lift it i'd take wheel off and check what otherside looks like, but i havent and makes it difficult. went to mechanic and asked today but he didnt know either, just told me to try switch them around and see what way looks right

yeah thats what i thought lol im 99% sure its the right way but murphys law is its wrong so need to know for sure, one is about 10-15mm wide other is about 5-7mm wide just by a guess. its a fair difference in with 1 is amost double the other.

the speedo drive? you mean the speedo cable? goes to the gearbox just by the gear lever

Yah bikes are alot more bloody fiddly than cars though. Still could be worth getting someone to go through some stuff with you, never too old to learn and all that!:yes:

yeah the guy at vtnz told me all the other things that are needing done or close to, told me chain and sprockets could do with a change sometime and few other bits and bobs, yeah i will do that because today when i started it not sure if i flooded it but was only running on 3 cylinders for a second and backfired. but a lil rev set it right. not sure if it was a once off. will find out tomorrow when i take for a ride. hope it doesnt happen again. not keen to remove everything to get to the plugs to check lol.

just got a new rectifier and battery and new bulbs all round and new wof =] next is chain n sprocket kit(probably get a +1 rear sprocket) then some expensive sport tyres for my extreme cornering ;) then thats almost everything done.

my last gsxr250 i had years ago i new that bike off by hand, if anything went wrong i new excatly what it is and how to fix lol had that bike for years and years in the end it didnt have much nuts holding fairings on because i was always taking it apart to fix something lol, that bike went through hell and back and still lived. was first bike for my brother then he gave it to me for my first. well recommended first bike.

yeah changing the plugs on those are a real cunt, I told drunkenmistake i would ''help him' change the plugs on his CBR250. he turned up, I handed him the tools he needed, and said 'this is what you gotta do'

I spent the next hour and three qaurters laughing hysterically at him as he cussed, spat, threw shit, grazed his knuckes and went fucking near insane trying to figure out what the 'easiest' way of changing them was.

He wasnt too pleased when I eventually told him that there was NO easy way.

He got there in the end though. I recommend beer. They DO need doing regularly, they are a regular interval service item, but I know people who have said 'oh nah, Ive had those plugs for 35 thousand kays, lasted me 5 and a half years, they're fine':facepalm:

With that big a difference you wouldn't get the wheel in and discs lined up in the caliper if they were the wrong way round

oh so my wheel must be on right then, but my calipers are adjustable like they slide left to right to fit different sized wheels and disks. so still cant be sure either

but if it was the wrong way would it still fit/work? this the first time iv changed front wheel berrings.

FFS, try fitting a finger between the brake disc and the fork leg on each side.

If your finger goes in the same distance on both it will be fine.

And +1 on what Kickaha said - you don't sound like a mechanic's arse.

As a general rule, when you pull out an axle you would take particular note of which way around AND which side of the bike they go. If the wheel is to be off for any amount of time, simply thread the spacers, adjusters, washer etc back onto the axle, in order, so you can take the guess work out of it on refitting. But this would apply to any mech stuff esp gearboxes where it is a major to retro fix.
