Well there's another good idea gone south.

Microsoft is to buy internet phone service Skype for US$8.5 billion (http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/world/4987080/Microsoft-to-buy-Skype-for-US-8b)

Question now is what's the best alternative??? I think we have 1 more decent update to find out before skype starts becoming bloated, slow & shit the MS way

Skype could be combined with Microsoft software such as Outlook to appeal to corporate users, = Instant bloat the double-down burger app

Skype as a product seems more like something Apple or Google would buy, not Microsoft.

but then it'd be iFace or gFace... now it'll be Microsoft Home Face Professional 2011.

.. and it will be a single DVD install with minimum 1Gb free space required, and a .net account to get it to run

Damn. And we just bought a webcam and got Skype 4 days ago. It's all a conspiracy. The good folk at Richmond are going to watch us .... hmmm, face recognition required to activate Windows licence and then to log on to your system. I wonder?

Could be worse - could have been bought by HP.

yea true that, but it'll just be triple the price of MS Skype home pro & offer nothing you couldn't get for free anyways.

Well it starts, MS has just rolled out the 1st ad supported Skype. This ones for iOS but expect the ads to be coming to a Skype near you in the very near future.

Saw that. Deleted my skype app instead of upgrading.

I like how they put it around the 7th thing down the list of changes, a lot of people won't read it.

I used to use Stunt IP to make calls via a 56k modem, without dropouts, interference, or adverts:
