Driving back from just south of Kaiwaka today, getting blown around by the wind/rain..I see this bloke walk/running (more of a trot really) heading north on the opposite side of the road. I thought it was odd so started looking for a parked car. He was about 10 kms out from Kaiwaka.
Finally spotted a vehicle parked by a forrest gate layby thing..
I was heading to Mangawhai for my 2nd job.
Started putting things together and decided to turn around and give him a lift.
Caught up to him, he wasn't even hitching?
Said he was test driving the car from Kaiwaka Caltex and it just spluttering and stopped, his cell phone was in his own car parked up at Kaiwaka..so I gave him lift back to his car.
Out of my way but, poor bugger, the weather conditions out there are hard enough in a car let alone walking in it.

He needs some floor sanding and vinyl work done in his home so...possibly?
Didn't take to much convincing tfor him to get into the spare seat.
I never pick up hitch hikers........this situation was different.

Well done you, would of done the same. Actually had a few call in when living out that way(between te hana and kaiwaka) who had filled up at kaiwaka, maybe they have dodgy fuel. Thats over 20yrs ago though.:yes:

I've found people initally surprised when you offer help for no apparent reason, and then really grateful that anybody bothered at all.

I was out on the bike on a back road a while ago and saw a car parked with the bonnet up, so stopped to see if they were ok (at a safe distance with the bike still running just in case), turned out they were just jump starting so were all good. They appreciated me stopping so much they even passed the bong out the window and asked if I wanted a hit before I headed off again. :laugh:

We were riding some of the catlins beaches with the dirtbikes one day and had a problem but no tools. The only person around was a rubbish truck out doing the bins so we stopped him and asked to borrow a cresent. This guy had just moved down from auckland and was real hesitant about lending anything out, and he was in a bit of a hurry, but in the end he did leave us the cresent and asked us to leave the cresent on a fence post at the side of the road. We fixed the bike and left his cresent with $10 under it on the post and off we went. The next day we were further down the coast at a wee shop when the rubbish dude turned up,he told us he never expected to get the cresent back,let alone $10. He shouted us a feed of fish and chips and met a real top bloke.:yes:

Remember test driving cars in Auckland and being sent out in a car that had been jump started at the car yard. Knowing our luck we managed to stall the car during our test drive around the city. Here I was fat and pregnant, my poor mother having to walk all the way back to the car yard to get help haha
