I have finally just ticked over my first 10,000km in the 6 months since getting my bike. I just wanted to express (yet another thread) on how awesome it's been. I've learnt to become much more aware of road surfaces, condition changes, group vehicle behaviour (bloody Auckland motorway...) and all in all I feel I've greatly improved my ability both on the bike and in my car.
Restricted on Monday afternoon, which shall no doubt be a piece of piss (yay for our tough licensing system). Which means no longer shall riding without the L plate or over 70km/h be a possible fine (though still have the bloody 10pm curfew).
I think getting a bike has been one of those absolutely life-changing decisions I've made, and I couldn't be happier that I made the choice to get one! Rides to Raglan, Thames, Tauranga, Port Waikato, Mangawhai, Russell, beautiful scenery and twisties to die for (no pun intended) and all memories I'll never forget with other biker friends.
Anyone who's thinking about getting a bike for the first time, or again don't hesitate! Life's too short, and I'd be shocked to hear of someone not being absolutely addicted and thrilled at the feeling of being on an engine with 2 attached wheels.

It is still great to ride a bike even after having a license and having been on and off bikes for 48 years. Just take it safe and easy to improve the odds of living to enjoy many years riding.

Good to see there aint a scratch on her.
I'd suggest some stickier tyres for the more 'comfortable' riding ahead :innocent:

Good on ya. Curfew's are nothing, just keep it rubber side down. You've already made it further than I did without a bin in the first 6 months. Keep it up.

Any who, Good luck with your restricted bro

Haha let's see... in the 6 months I've had a tank slapper, front has nearly slid away from me practising wet emergency braking and have nearly been taken out a few times by other vehicles with their SIDSYM behaviour. I more feel lucky that I haven't binned her

That's the one that did me. Are you still on the original tyres?

Front one is (bikes done 12800km, as bought it with 2800km on the clock). Changed the back to a pirelli speed demon as it started squaring about 4500km ago, front tyre will probably need replacing soonish as well.
Congrats mate, I've recently clicked over 10000k myself after 6 months riding. My restricted test was just a 15 minute ride around the block, so easy that they would have been better off just giving it to me and saving our time.

Get out there and ride some more.

In the year that I've had my bike, I've only done about 12,500km on it.
10,000km in six months is pretty impressive, haha.

Nooooooooo!!! I doubt that will happen - I am old and have less energy  otherwise I would ride all the time.

Ohhh!!! If motorbike was my only transport add another 3500km from the car I've done in the last 6 months :bleh:
I'm trying to ween off the last little bit of unecessary car travel over motorcycle riding. Though some has to happen, mainly for shopping at the groceries so I can top up my little vending machine venture. Can't really buy in bulk well on a motorcycle unfortunately. Would if I could! :bleh:

There are many experienced riders who don't do 10,000 km in a year. Well done Superman on 10,000 in 6 months. Hours on the bike is the best form of learning you can get.

Keep on riding safely! I guess you will also be doing what the rest of us do and looking at all sorts of gear and bling for bikes! :innocent:
And remember to always keep riding! :msn-wink: And if you aren't sure, keep riding some more!

And have now acquired my Restricted license! (Was a piece of piss...)
Did get stung in my neck by a bee while doing it though, should have known the only time having a bright yellow L plate on would cause a bad event to occur!
