It's interesting the things that stick in my mind.

Today the Technically-Not-A-Bandit clicked over 7,711km.

This is exactly the same distance when the speedo failed on my Aprilia SL750 Shiver, marking the beginning of a nine-month period during which I fell out of any love I may have had with the farce that trades as Aprilia New Zealand Ltd -- Triumph New Zealand Ltd in drag.

That Shiver is still owed a replacement speedo unit too by the aforementioned "distributor", another warranty claim that was never satisfactorily resolved by them. I sorted it myself.

I may have felt better if I'd ever got a decent explanation or even an apology from Triumph NZ. The speedo sensor was only a $80 part FFS, and a documented recall fault from Aprilia. It took them another whole year to get that actioned.

Anyway, the Big Blue Suzuki's speedo still works and is unimpinged by condensation. Long may that continue.

End of my first 'long ride', getting to Tauranga, soaked to the skin and grinning like a loon - and of course, riding away from Botany Honda, going, "Holy crap, this is my bike!!!1one!!"

There'll be more... given time.

I was looking at a Triumph for my 'big bike'... I'm somewhat less encouraged by the reports of Triumph NZ... :(

I have a New Triumph on order. And my opinion of Triumph NZ ltd is slowly plunging. I should have stuck with Suzuki :blink::cry:

Damn good reliable bikes them Suzukis.

Good luck with the Trumpet fancied a Street Triple myself). Just had the 24k service done on the SV. The only time it's been off the road was to have a puncture looked at. The only thing I've replaced apart from fluids and filters has been the spark plugs.

Glad to hear the big blue beast is treating you well Mr H.

Aprilias, Moto Guzzis and Triumphs sold new in New Zealand are just fine. The only time problems are likely to be encountered is when you need parts other than filters (apart from Triumphs) or to make a warranty claim.

Aprilia parts can be delivered to your door in less than a week, courtesy of AF1 in Texas (the USA's biggest Aprilia dealership), so if you're happy to forget about the "two-year factory warranty" that is supposed to be delivered with your new Aprilia, then you'll have no problems at all.

Of course such a strategy of self-management lets Triumph NZ off Scot free, but at least you'll be able to have your bike fixed and back running again in a timely manner.

If I was ever to buy an Aprilia again, I'd only do so if my friendly local dealer discounted the retail price to allow for the likely non-delivery of warranty claims. Seriously.

I wouldn't go that far Mr H. I push my bikes beyond normal use, be it technology, accessories, specification or just the way and frequency I ride it, and not having a dealer properly support the bike, it's not even on the list to be considered.

The initial purchase of a bike is nothing compared to the time it will spend being serviced etc.
