View Full Version : Knee down in the rain

Bike magazine has the Wet Weather Tire Test in the April issue. I like Bike's tire tests. They try to be as objective as possible with a professional rider, controlled environment, blind review, etc. This test was a sport touring tire review.
The PR2 and 3 were in the tires reviewed along with the BT023, RoadSmart, and Storm Ultra II. The test mule was a Suzuki 1250. The reviewer was amazed at the performance turned in by the Pilot Road 3, placing it miles ahead of the other tires which none were less than good choices. Bruce Dunn was able to easily get the knee down through the puddles of water.
Tester noted that it was comparable to a race rain tyre but still being long lasting as a sports dry road tyre too. Fookin neow!!!!

In the pic the bikes tyres are not in "puddles".I havent seen or read the article, but
your text is somewhat missleading don't you think?

Funny looking GSF/GSX 1250. And only his knee is in the puddle. Also...if the 'Professional Tester' thinks a production sports touring tyre is as good as a race rain tyre, he's full of shit and obviously has a large smearing of poo on his knob.
FACT.

Is it my imagination or does that picture look very poorly photoshopped?

Holy shit, what a miserable lot you are lol! Of course it's not the exact tester/bike/tyre picture, it's just a random pic i found on the net- got to admit it's pretty awesome though. Lighten up you lot!
I did not take the magazine home to scan/photocopy the exact pictures so unfortunately I could not upload those ones. However, anyone is free to pick up the months issue and see the article themselves if they have doubts or believe I am lying... :)
Just thought some people would be interested to check the article out, not trying to quote word for word.

Knee down = bike more upright = tyre has bigger contact patch.
He stuck his knee in the puddle for show.
I'd be more impressed if he went through at the same speed without his knee down.

There's no wheel track left by the front tyre, there's no bow-wave caused by the rider's knee and the light shining on the bike is totally different to the light on the track.

The bike is still pretty far cranked over for rain. He'd be hitting some good corner speed.
Another cool pic thanks to Kiwifruit, though not sure if it's the same test? http://www.motott.co.nz/Metzeler%20Lasertec%20Wet.JPG

You're endorsing this irresponsible and potentially unsafe riding behavior?
Lame pics. Bikes are barely lent over with picture tilted to compensate. If they slid off the bike anymore they'd be sitting on the road.

So do you reckon you can lean further with road tyres? No race wets allowed!

Not really. If he was hitting corner speeds where is the bow wave of rooster tail?
I am guess he is doing about 50k max.

Sure if your sane.
But I ride with Shinkos in the wet so taking my advice is like like taking advice from the world planking champion.

I find it pointless grinding my pegs in the rain, no sparks.
