Ventured into the Waikato region today, SH27 Ta Huna area.
On the return trip around Patetonga I was hit on the helmet/visor rather hard by something. My first thought was that it was a bird ..but a few 100mts down the road I noticed some bright green splatters on my jacket (looking at the mirror on my right) I still thought it was a bird until I then looked at the tank area. More green splatter and Anne had also copped it. The smudge on the top right corner of my visor was the strike point. I then slowed and raised the visor and said to Anne ''is that fucken' paint''?...yip indeed it was, we had been hit by a paint ball it seemed.
I was avoiding the rain by staying on 27 because it was chucking it down out Ta Huna/Ohinewai way (which is where I wanted to be) but it was about now I wanted rain!
Where did the paint ball come from? I/we have no idea...a house? a passing car?..dunno. Got to the Muddy Waters at Mercer and washed what was left, off.
Shocking to think that we could have been hit on purpose?

When I had my wee 50cc scooter some guy dropped a bucket of paint from some scaffolding which was on the side of his house which was about 25m above the road,
I got covered with it and it took took the left hand mirror and bush guard off,
But a paintball is fucking insane, go back and see if you cant find the fuckers, hang them by their toes and open up.

Maha got a full on hit, my helmet coped the remainder...

Lime green paint all over gloves, helmet etc.

It had a bit of force in it, hit the helmet with a hell of a bang

Friggen dickheads that thought that was a great idea. Could have been very nasty indeedy. Good shot though as we were traqvelling at 100kph at the time.

The vehicles coming towards us may have been the culprits, there was a truck (a big one) followed by a couple of cars...

Spot the problem?

Happened so friggen fast there was not a hope in hell of seeing where it came from. I felt something hit my head, hard, and put my hand up to feel my helmet, it came away lime green?????????

I wondered what the bird that had shat on me had been eating  Then I saw it all over Maha, and the bike...

I dont know the exact spot, like I said, by the time I realised what it was we were some distance away from where it happened.
Good shooting though, normally your target would not be moving at around 110kph.
I bet he was a grassy knoll.

Shit Maha, thats not cool. Good to see you and mom are ok and the little bastards didn't cause serious crash.
A good paint ball gun can easily go through a motorcycle visor so your lucky it only hit the side....would hate to see the damage if it copped you straight on in the face :shit:.

Kids...if there not putting bloody fishing line across the roads, there shootin at us with paint ball guns :ar15::dodge:.....:angry2:

Thinking back on it, it could have easily come from a car heading in the other direction. Either way it a pretty fucked up thing to do. Could have also been a stray paint ball from some mucking around with one, who knows?

A few months back, I had two little shits chuck some stones at me as I rode past.
I was on the brakes fast and chased them down the road, they managed to get away down between two houses. But as least I put the fear up them. :spanking:

have in mind that a paintball is quite small, about 17mm (.68caliber, the most common) and the amount of ink it holds is good enough to make a splatter mark 1/2 of the size of a tennis ball diameter. also its shell is some sort of gelatin that usually adheres to the target so you would possibly find parts of it with the ink.

i used to play it :) and most of the guys were older/responsible ppl. the whole safety thing is quite strong among the guys - not saying that it wasn't or that there are no dickheads among them, just thinking if it could have been something else?

Any idiot with access to trademe can get hold of a paintball gun these days
Glad you both are ok, would hate to think what would have happened if it hit you square in the front of your visor :shit:

By the time I had stopped some 30 mins later most of the paint had washed off with the rain. If a paintball hit a wet moving (110kph) object the shell would not stick around to long surely?
It was almost fluorescent green in colour.

Let the cops know?

Feckers might develop a taste for it and do someone some serious damage.

Wouldn't expect them to be able to do too much in your case, but it might help soak up a bus ticket if they are ever caught.

Hey Maha if you can mark on the map where you think you got hit I'll go out in the Nissan and see if there's any houses close by....
Patetonga is a rich farming area.. I work that area, and not too many dickheads live there...... Tahuna s a bit different but..
It'd have to be a lucky shot to hit a moving target, specially at the speed you go.

Suggestions as to what? It covered helmets, part of the tank, the jacket, gloves...
it hit Maha's helmet just where the visor is connected, I am a bit higher and it hit my helmet on the way past. Lime green, disolved in rain, and lets not forget not everyone that has a paintball gun is sensible. I am sure whoever fired it thought it was funny...

It was on SH27 just south of the Patetongata "blink or you miss it shop". We could see it and were slowing down. There was a house on a rise to our right, it could have come from there? There was a truck and a couple of cars heading south, it could have come from them? The shot came from our right, infact it hit just prior to the truck. I am going the house on the rise to the right...

Weatherboard? Blue?

OK so I'm coming north on 27 just before Patetonga shop, look for a blue weatherboard house on the right....

I hadn't thought of reporting but guess I should, it may not have been the first time.
Yes Chooky, if you are coming from the round-da-bout at Paeroa/Ta Huna rd the the paintball came from the right. I dont know how many houses are on the right just before to the Patetonga shop but Anne got a glimps.

well, i'm glad you came out all right of the whole episode. by what i read it seems to me that it could have been multiple shots (tank, gloves, jacket and helmet). i'd report to the police just in case as someone mentioned before me - it might not be the first time and if it happens that the pricks get caught doing it again it would weigh against them.

cheers

little unrealistic don't you think, I doubt a paint ball gun can break human skin (can leave a nice bruise though) so it could never easily go through a m/c visor, unless the paintball was frozen first or the visor was made of glad wrap.

glad to hear you're ok. most likely some lads returning from a days paintballing. they could take home the unused balls and lob them out the car window at oncoming traffic (200kph if my cals are correct).

We used to use giant jaffa's after removing he hard outer shell.

Obviously you haven't used a modern paint ball gun.(or done any research)
And I did state "a GOOD paintball gun", so no, not unrealistic at all...factual!
I have played in the ChCh paintball league and know exactly what a high powered paintball gun can do, and they certainly can break the skin - hence you MUST wear approved safety gear while playing(and MC helmets...don't make the grade!), and any competitor under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or guardian, and all other players have to sign a medical waver....why?...because its bloody dangerous! especially if you dont have the facts and respect for the "weapons" being used.

Heres some scary figures for you.

average paintball velocity=280-300fps (in compitition over 300fps easy)
average tank pressure driving the gun=3000-4500 psi

When I gave it a go I had a semi/fully automatic Tippmann running a 4000psi tank that could fire nearly 10 rounds a sec!...and it would make a well padded grown man cry.

So maybe next time, before you jump on here and use words like "I doubt", "never easily" & "most likely"...you should do some research & get some facts.
Because the reality is Mom & Maha could have been seriously hurt in this incident - Fact!

-Realistic enough for ya?

Edit: Damnit!...Im being harsh to a fellow Italian rider...sorry reggie, respect, LOVE the bike and the race photos look great :)

To put in in more straightforward terms for you then, there is no fucking way a paintball would go through a helmet visor.

Still a nasty thing to be doing, could easily cause a crash, the plod have been known to do some energetic book throwing at scrotes who have been caught.

..my god! did you read the above?, sorry clint, but your wrong!
a good paintball gun WILL go through a MC visor (which is why MC helmets are banned from competition matches..as are snow goggles, and MX goggles).
Sorry this is so hard to comprehend.

a good paintball gun WILL go through a MC visor .

Bollocks. Both paintball & mc helmet visors are made outta polycarbonate, paintball ~ 3mm thick, mc visor ~ 2mm thick, so the mc one is weaker, but not to the extent that it would be ruptured by an impact that wouldn't dent the 3mm paintball visor. Go try it. There are other reasons mc helmets aren't permitted in paintball.
