There was a Racers only meeting/forum held in Palmerston this weekend prior to the MNZ AGM, just wondering if there is any feedback on how this went and what was discussed etc. Unfortunately due to other prior commitments I couldn't make it but very keen to here how it went. Hopefully it was a worthwhile thing that will be repeated.

The forum was good , but nothing really happened apart from people putting views.
AS for riders who bleat and don't make the effort to turn up , then best they can say is nothing in future. Greg and Jaden Hassan made the effort to come all the way from Auckland , Andrew Stroud / Brian Bernard were there also , among others , Wharfy and a number of others like Dan Kempthorne Tim McArthur , Tim Gray from Dunedin. And numerous others ,Dennis Charlett , Glen Williams , Chris Osborne and the riders who wanted to at least contribute their thoughts thanks for your efforts. Pity some of the other National riders didn't make the effort. But by in large piss poor turn out by riders.
Nothing new there

Is that something that is going to be put to MNZ, or something that has been decided already and is now a given?, and what was the theory behind it?? (why?)

the rule I beleive states only two digits.
One problem that is consistently rearing it's head is the piss poor numbers on bikes, it's something that needs policing and it's a simple rule that too many people are not being picked up on, and it's so basic...

Well apart from the sidecars (if they turn up) just about every other bike that turns up for a meeting would get the arse if they enforced it

I called MNZ and asked what time it was and they said the road race workshop was at 3.30 I was halfway there and Craig Shirriffs called and told me it was at 1.30 so I missed out

I agree about the "size" and "type" of number - as you say, it is clearly laid out in MNZ; type, font, where it should be etc. However....
When I contacted MNZ about my number itself (3 digits), they assured me it was fine! I re-checked regarding Nationals specifically also, they assured me that I had my number for all classes, for all competition, and there was no problem. That was earlier this year.... hence I am a little surprised by today's news.
Why are numbers an issue when everyone would be using a transponder anyway?

So that the flag marshals, commentators and spectators can tell who is who.
There has been no actual rule change just a desire (and by no means a unanimous one) that the rules regarding numbers should be more strictly enforced.
One of the most compelling reasons put forward as to why a rider should ensure their number can be easily read is so that your sponsor gets the exposure they are paying for.
Of course it is easy to tell which bike I'm on - it's last !

HaHaHa, you listened to Shirriffs!!!!
you're both right though
the forum was at 1.30, the workshop at 3.30....
apart from a break for afternoon tea I couldn't tell the difference between the two sessions they were one and the same.

Discussed were number sizes, type and position.
reasons for concern are visability for all as mentioned above.
Also the number of National rounds and number of races and support classes in those rounds.
The type of media people are choosing to use these days and where we should be focusing promoting our sport
Transponders; why shouldnt we all have one?
several other topics that I cant remember at the moment and dont have my notes with me.
Prob about 45-50 people attended at a guess.

Exactly!
Racers are very quick to criticise marshalls for getting it wrong, but don't make it easy for them to see your numbers. A transponder is as useless as tits on a bull as far as a marshall is concerned.
It would be great if the number thing was improved!

There was a lot of old territory covered , some new ideas in respect to Juniors plus possible promotion options including private promoters of nat series. A web site guy that has the longest scrolling front page in website history produced some positive numbers for last years series in respect to entries as well.
There was reasnoble support for 600's in the medium term to be run as one class - a semi-stock spec. Superbikes werent discussed.
There was no long-term plan or visions presented, it was mostly about current issues and short term issues with notes taken by officials.

So I guess taking from this post it was well worth the effort to hold this forum? I guess the proof is in the pudding as far as whether anything will change due to the racers suggestion...but you think it was positive Glen? I applaud MNZ for making this initiative at least trying to provide a sense of listening to its members. 'The Chow' I think for a first round at this, 45 members/racers attending is not a bad effort personally.

Ha you bugger  the positive numbers I think were well recieved. Just pissed that I had to repeat them more than once:angry: My thoughts are that the rider forum kinda morphered into the workshop as everyone present had a say , really it was an extended workshop , which we have been having for years , so nothing new there , but yes at least it is better to have than not.
