I have a GN250 at the moment in pretty good condition. But its got issues. It seesaws for no reason when doing more than 60. I suspect it could be the carburettor but have already replaced the chain and power regulator and considering its already uncomfortable for me to ride im not to keen on forking out more cash.
Plus i only purchased the GN250 cause i needed a bike pronto and was told there the easiest to learn on.
So im interested in a sportsbike. Ive looked at the Kawasaki Ninja 250r 2010 (2011 is outside my prices range and i prefer the look of the 2010) and im also looking at the hyosung GT250r.
I have taken the Ninja for a test ride and absolutely loved it. It took corners beautifully and was very well balanced weight wise. The only issue i have with it. Is it does not appear to be capable of having a bag rack or grip bar placed on the back. which is irratating cause i quite often crash at friends when going out for drinks and such and just bungee cord a bag onto the backseat of the GN250. But seems this isnt possible with the Ninja afaik.
That lead me to the hyosung with is capable of both. Plus the hyosung is fuel injected instead of carburettor so will be better on fuel. But ive heard of issues regarding build quality and also heard that the hyosung do not hold there value.
So essentialy if i go for the better bike (ninja) then im screwed if i need to carry a bag on the back. and if i go for one that allows for a bag on the back i could be screwed quality wise.
So. thoughts? is there any sort of solution to the bag problem with the ninja. And is my info wrong about the hyosung.

You can get pack racks fitted to Ninjas, easy. Just need to ring around the right places. I wouldn't know exactly where to go, but a mate has one on his.
In fact, he was in the same dilemma you're in, ninja vs hyo.
Long and the short of it is, the ninja will hold value better than the hyo, when you wanna flick it on when you get your full.
They're comparable bikes, ish, but realistically the ninja will hold value purely because of its legacy. The hyo doesn't have the name to back it up so will lose money quicker.
Get the ninja, get a pack rack, thank me when you sell it and save yourself some pennies.
Just my 2c.

I'm biased, but I say buy the ninja (even if I do have the old one). I have the old frame with a new model 2008 motor, I'm currently getting about 400 k's per tank (35 bucks) that's not bad I reckon plus its great fun to ride.

I'm sure Ventura would have a rack system for the new ninjas by now wouldnt they?
I'd say ride the Hyo and then compare. Ninja will hold its value better but it comes down to what you'd rather be spending each and every day with when it comes down to it

yea I planned to test ride the hyosung. But figured i would post up here as well and see if anyone knew the stuff i didnt know.
I will try and hunt around for a pack rack for the ninja. if i can find one then definately the ninja. if not then guess ill have to try and make one. I got pretty much a whole workshop downstairs in my garage so i could probably make something work.

And on Saturday I had it in the Dyno shootout and it destroyed the other 250's there was a late model Ninja 250 and the older style same year as my CBR

If you're going through a dealer, brand new, try and convince them to install one for you, sweeten the deal and all that. After all, you're the customer, you could easily take your money elsewhere? Worth a shot.

+ 1 most dealers stock the ventura range (at least the Hyosung guys in Takapuna do so assuming other do)

Buy a CBR250. They are much, much quicker in a straight line than the 4 stroke 250cc twins, and you don't lose as much in depreciation.
The power to weight ratio law will be coming into effect soon, consider getting a GS500.

if you get a good one then yes. if you dont they are a overpriced money pit. Performance means nothing under 100HP. get a modern , trouble free 250.

I'm very biased. I love my ninja to pieces, it's plenty fast, great for lane splitting, super nimble and very confidence inspiring in corners. And looks... well people seem to either love or hate it, and I love it to bits. The stares you get everywhere you go make you grin, gotta land those babes . You get great mileage, I get about 400kms out of the tank if I'm absolutely hooning it, or around 450 if I stay more in the speed limit area
Ventura racks easy to get, I haven't bothered I just shove as much crap in my back pack as possible and that seems to work just fine for me.
See if the shop can sort out these issues you have with carrying gear on the Ninja and I suggest you get that bike. Also, please refrain from calling the 250 Ninja and Hyosung sportsbikes. They are not.

So so right there mate. If you go down cbr/zxr/fzr etc.. track, you have to make sure it is a well maintained beast.
Loads of fun and great little machines.

if you arent getting brand new, get something 2-3 years old, youll save a bit extra over just getting last years model.
As for the kwak and carrying things, look around, someone will do a boly on kit for a pack rack for it, theyre a popular enough bike that there are bound to be systems out there for it.
Hyosungs are starting to pull themselves out of that 'they ar ecomplete shit' category. hen they first came out, they had issues, and some people decided to hate them for no reason other than the fact that they were new. most of the issues have been sorted now though.
As for economy between the two, I doubt youll notice the difference week by week, they are both modern 250cc bikes, I wouldnt bother factoring economy in for the miniscule difference it will make between the two

It was a ZXR, not a GPX. there was also an 08/09 'ninja' 250 on that board as well. and yesm for a near 10 HP difference between the two, I was surprised. DM's bike did well, but its got fuckall kms on it, and he has been the most pedantic 9to the point of being fuckin annoying) cunt about maintaining it that its no surprise it had a great readout

uh-huh. so why were they generally considered as the best learner bike by a huge portion of the biking population for about the last 20 years?
Not everyone wants to constantly rebuild their bike and worry about putting oil in every couple hundred kms etc.

At the moment i am looking to be new(ish) from a dealer. Not neccesarily brand spanking this years model new. but new warranty and no previous owners.
Took a test ride on the Hyosung today and to be honest it rode better than the Ninja did. In the Ninja the shifting was rather difficult and i had to be in 5th to do 60kph. The hyosung sat at 60kph quite sensibly in 3rd. It handled well for the bigger size. not as nimble as the ninja but handles brilliantly none the less. my only annoyance is the placement on the stand. It is pretty much right under the footpeg meaning it takes a bit to get it down. But other than that i loved the ride. The acceleration was very smoot and it is a fair bit louder than the ninja but its a natural sound. where as the Ninja sounds like its been artificially made to sound a particular way if you know what i mean.
and on the fuel note. The Ninja is using parralel twin engine instead of V-twin and is carburated instead of fuel injection so there most likely will be some difference but as to whether is noticable week by week im not sure.
Oh. Im looking to spend about 7-8k. I can trade my GN250 in for $2000 unless someone else offersme more and i have $500 saved up. and that works out to about 45-55 a week for 2-3 years. The biggest difference is hyosung will give me accessories and make it easier to move up to a bigger bike when i get my full where as kawasaki will just sell the bike.

Look dude,
Ignore what all these cunts say, most of them are nailing it on the money, at the end of the day, This bike will be yours and yours alone, so dont get one that is a little bit better than the other because someone told you it was,
Get one you are comfortable on, get one that is in good nick, lowish km and within or a little under your budget, after all realistly your going to own this bike another.. Year.. 6 months? You dont want to sink a whole lot of your money into an older bike (no offence here Westy) but one like Westy's, they are great bikes but they take alot of maintaining and some of them are nothing more than money pits, if you do go for an older bike like the CBR's go for one thats stock and original and in real tidy order, in 5 years time they will be worth that little bit more, and they are just overall fun little bikes.
You sounded like you were pretty keen on the Ninja, dont worry about the pack rack shit for now, You can get them for one and you can get them cheap if you look hard enough, you can even modify one off your GN im sure, just revert to a back pack untill you can afford one or whatever the case is,
Ignore that speed in a straight line shit either, face the fact its a 250, over taking anyone is incredibly hard and takes a lot of time etc etc, unless your a crazy prick like myself and get moments of Adrenalin bullet proof mode.
Bikes are made for Corners and made to be fun and relaxed and something you can look at and think, "Fuck yeah, thats my bike, and its the fucking shit!".
Make a list of your possible bikes, take them for a twirl and decide on one you like the most, and then go out and try find one a little bit cheaper or a little bit tidier whatever it may be.
Just make sure YOUR happy with it man, if you narrow down a list of say Ninja's that are you interested then post up some links or photos of them and ask people their opinion as to which is the better one to buy, (If its a Ninja you decide you want in the end, just using it as an example)
There is my small rant/advice/2cents haha. Good luck and keep it up.

1. I dont appreciate you talking down about my bike. it is NOT a money pit and is VERY clean and completely stock besides the fairings which i still have.
2. what im asking for my bike is well below his budget, and will cost him LESS to maintain than a ninja or a Hyo. i would always choose a well maintained older bike, again provided it IS well maintained.
Other than that i agree with you, comes down to what you like best mate

Agreed, if you get a bigger bike be warned some insurance companies like to insure you by keeping themselves in the 'dark' so not asking you to provide license details, so they can decline you insurance on the basis that you are not legally allowed to drive it,
I have my VFR 400 and im on my R and I have full insurance and I have fully declared my license ID number and that I am on my R .. well L at the time and they covered me full insurance,
And as for the cop issue, its basic - Dont act like a fuckwit = wont be treated like one.

1. I dont appreciate you talking down about my bike. it is NOT a money pit and is VERY clean and completely stock besides the fairings which i still have.
2. what im asking for my bike is well below his budget, and will cost him LESS to maintain than a ninja or a Hyo. i would always choose a well maintained older bike, again provided it IS well maintained.
actualy it WILL cost more to maintain than a twin, go and ask your local dealer the cost for a 'C' (major) service for a twin and a four pot. Regardless of excellent condition or not, high performance vehicles will always be more costly to run and the cbr-rr IS a high performance machine for a 250.
dnt get new shit the new shits worse then the old shit. get a cbr thats westy_mate fella has mint cbr that you can go nuts on. it takes alot to do over a mc19. dont judge something just cos its second hand, the new shit sucks. its all governed and its just rubbish. shit cost heaps to replace on the new paku, ur better of with a nice old cbr250r or rr. they look sweet. u actually kinda needa get on one and ride it for a week or so. ull realise how much better it is. if u dnt wanna work on something all the time. own something that u can js wash and nt worry about it. leave in the rain. then get a cbr. thea a hardbike to do over unless u just thrash it into a wall and write it off or something.
In reality, the above post is EXACTLY why you should be afraid, be VERY afraid, when buying a s/hand sports 250
Interpretation,,, go nuts on... thrash the fuck out of it
takes a lot to do over a mc19.... the fuck HAS been thrashed out of it regularly
shit costs heaps to replace..... uses patern parts, cheapo oil, and doesnt get fully serviced
wash and jus leave it in the rain....... says it all
hardbike to do over unless you thrash it into a wall.... THRASH says it all really.

its a 250 for crying out loud. unless you own a high performance 250 that you personally know how everything goes together and works etc. then its a different story. But if you own something else. like half the other 250's out there. just burn it uhp. thea little bikes its not like ur racing or anything man fuck come on. Just get something cheap and nasty when it dies it dies but trust me takes a lot for it to die. in regard to the cbr being unbreakable. unless ur an enthusiast with ur 250's then get something u want to project thatll better you in the long run. but as for all the other rubbish 250s out thea. the cbr stands out from the all. but man come on its a 250. not like your buying a 600 or something.

if you get a good one then yes. if you dont they are a overpriced money pit. Performance means nothing under 100HP. get a modern , trouble free 250.

but wat im saying is cbr250 in general is a strong matter. it takes a lot to do over a cbr. compared to something like a crappy 250r ninja. a cbr would one. shred rubber right through it and still last. the ninja would be bound to doing over something if u took it up to sixth and maybe redlined her. thea weak motors. understand the concept between a quality matter and shit motor. the new motors thea bringing out on these new 250's are rubbish. theyd be more unreliable then an old cbr motor if u put it to the test/ if anything goes wrong with an old 250 itll be something ur disc rotors warping or yah headlight going peow. or ur front forks maybe getting to spongy. but if ur going from a to b and want the power wen necessary js get a cbr.

im not interested in a cbr. westy's one is way to fast for me and i want to go new. tried second hand in cars, gn250 and airsoft guns and i always have some sort of issue. but i dont with new so if im getting a bike im getting a new one from a dealership.
I was keen on the ninja. I like how light and agile it is. But its gearing is shit. 5th gear to do 60kph is worse than the gn250. Hyosung doesnt have this issue but isnt as agile. and id rather have a bike that doesnt need 4-5 gear shifts for just cruising so at the moment i am set on the hyosung inless there is something else that catched my eye.
all i need to do is figure out how to cover up the gtr on the side of the hyosung because the colour pallate of the letters doesnt match the bike in black and i want in black.

In all honesty, 5th gear to do 60kph is nuts. I'd be thinking something is wrong with the bike. They're not that shit. They should be chilling in 3rd or possibly even 4th for 50kph, not struggling in 5th. I suggest you ride a couple more ninjas, cos that one sounds a tad poked. Either that or you're not riding it right.

Sorry mate but this is one of the stupidest things i have ever read. The ninja should be in 3rd or 4th doing 60. And the number of gears to get there really is not an argument for or against any bike.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOrZiVkIC20 Redline in first is at 60 and the cruising RPM should be 6000 - 7000rpm.
But if you like the Hyosung more go for that...personally i would go for the one that feels better not the one that requires less shifting....

Oh. and why are people going on about performance and speed. i want a commuter that is comfortable, looks good to me and can handle 100kph. I dont need some mega awesome bike that will last for ages. i dont plan to stay on 250 for long once i get my full. which hyosung are willing to help with. they have some thing where you get a guaranteed amount to trade in once you got yer full. Which is very appealing.
Oh and all these people saying hyosung are shit and all that. how many have taken the 2010 and 2011 models for a ride. there are probably a few that have taken the 2008 models out for a spin but they had many issues. Which most have been fixed.
Simple fact is the hyosung ticks more of my boxes than the ninja at the moment and the CBR isnt even being considered. cause my prices range is 7-8k. But i dont actually have 7-8k. im going to get it financed.
So stop going on about the CBR. this isnt a disscussion about whether or not the CBR is good. its a discussion about the hyosung or ninja or something similar i can buy new.

Thank you. I agree that it did seem strange. THe gear shifts were also quite hard. I have no problem shifting in the GN250, GZ250 and the hyosung but the ninja was bloody difficult. so might take another for a spin. but kawasaki pretty much just give you the bike. nothing else. which is a bit dissapoiting when hyosung give you accesorries and all sorts.

I can understand your frustration. I had a GPX250 and really enjoyed learning on the bike and found it easy to keep up with mates on powerful machines at reasonable speeds. I also really enjoyed the Kawa, it was easy to ride, economical and I had great service and support from Bay City Motorcycles Tauranga. I like the look of the new model and friends have enjoyed learning on the upgraded version.
I now ride another Kawa and would think hard before switching to another brand. Just a thought - if you decide to buy another brand when trading up then the Kawa will give you better trade in.
Enjoy the bike whichever you choose.

To be honest, there's not really much to choose from is there? I mean, if you are looking for a sport-style 250cc bike from the last say 3 years....
Kawasaki GPX/EX250 Ninja
Hyosung GT250R
I think all the arguments for and against have already been made. Personally I reckon you've already made your mind up on the ninja :)
Megelli 250R
Daelim VJF250
I doubt you want to pay good money to be a beta tester, so these two are probably out.
or new single-cylinder CBR250R (http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/motoring/5041280/Being-single-no-hardship-in-motorcycling)
I know you said you didn't want an earlier CBR, but that review of the new makes it sound fairly appealing for your specs - but looks like you'd have to wait until July.

Hyosungs have only been in our market for a few years yet, and some people take a long time to trust a new brand. Dollar for dollar, I do think brands like kawasaki have a better product overall, but it is your decision. There is a guy on here who has put well over 100,000 km on his Hyosung 250 with no major issues. . .
as for the performance, if a bikes top speed is 135km/hr, then you're pushing it harder at 100km/hr, than you would be a bike that can do 180km/hr, so if you intend to do a fair bit of highway stuff, you do need to take that into account. good luck with your search!

OK, you know what? you are promoting that 250 of yors as being 'mint' and perfect, and getting offended that a cbr250 could be considered a money pit, so lets just atke a wee looksie at that shall we?
You are selling your 250 and promoting it as having such a wonderful history, despite the fact that you ran it up the back end of a car and sustained MAJOR damage that you then had to repair.
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128554-I-just-had-a-crash!-Help-me-figure-out-my-options!
Then you had to replace all the fairings
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128630-Opinions-on-these-fairings.-What-looks-the-best
Then you had to get the tank repainted
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128688-Where-do-I-take-my-tank-to-be-resprayed-the-Repsol-colour
then at your next WOF, the headlights were still out of focus, probably because you didnt straighten the bent brackets properly after your crash when you fitted new fairings
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/132537-My-headlamps-are-out-of-focus-help!
Oh lets not forget the time when your seat lock just SPONTANEOUSLY FEOO OUT OF THE BIKE ON A RIDE and you had to source a new one
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/137776-Looking-for-a-passenger-seat-lock-for-my-89-CBR-250r
Oh and of course the damaged parts list from your crash ALSO include:
Exhaust
crank case cover
Mirror
throttle slide
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128837-Looking-for-CBR250R-parts-Any-ideas
Now I could go on, but point of fact, YOUR BIKE HAS BEEN a money pit, so Drunkenmistake was right about that.
And youve outright lied about your bike being 'mint' and 'perfect'
Perhaps a little honestly about your bike might help eh?

Just get something cheap and nasty when it dies it dies but trust me takes a lot for it to die. in regard to the cbr being unbreakable. unless ur an enthusiast with ur 250's then get something u want to project thatll better you in the long run. but as for all the other rubbish 250s out thea. the cbr stands out from the all. but man come on its a 250. not like your buying a 600 or something.
Mate he doesnt want 'cheap and nasty' he wants a reliable, solid perfromance machine... that is what the average 'kid' with a 250 is missing.... He is looking at his actual requirements, not how big/small his penis and ego are and; what bike will supplement said appendage(s).......
What you forget is, the guys of my age group have seen, watched, known these bikes since they were first marketed and have seen how good/bad/costly/reliable/practicable they are..... a 250 that revs to 19000rpm put simply and bluntly, is 'FRAGILE'

That is by far the best statement, new is better it will hold its value and parts are EASY to get, and Cheaper than an Asian hooker on a Saturday night, if you dont want to sink money into a 250 then you are by far better off on a newer 250, 19,000rpm is a one way street to rattle and shake town which is rather stressful on such a small bike, not saying its an immediate problem but one with High km or "low km" import, you just dont know.

OK, you know what? you are promoting that 250 of yors as being 'mint' and perfect, and getting offended that a cbr250 could be considered a money pit, so lets just atke a wee looksie at that shall we?
You are selling your 250 and promoting it as having such a wonderful history, despite the fact that you ran it up the back end of a car and sustained MAJOR damage that you then had to repair.
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128554-I-just-had-a-crash!-Help-me-figure-out-my-options!
Then you had to replace all the fairings
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128630-Opinions-on-these-fairings.-What-looks-the-best
Then you had to get the tank repainted
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128688-Where-do-I-take-my-tank-to-be-resprayed-the-Repsol-colour
then at your next WOF, the headlights were still out of focus, probably because you didnt straighten the bent brackets properly after your crash when you fitted new fairings
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/132537-My-headlamps-are-out-of-focus-help!
Oh lets not forget the time when your seat lock just SPONTANEOUSLY FEOO OUT OF THE BIKE ON A RIDE and you had to source a new one
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/137776-Looking-for-a-passenger-seat-lock-for-my-89-CBR-250r
Oh and of course the damaged parts list from your crash ALSO include:
Exhaust
crank case cover
Mirror
throttle slide
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128837-Looking-for-CBR250R-parts-Any-ideas
Now I could go on, but point of fact, YOUR BIKE HAS BEEN a money pit, so Drunkenmistake was right about that.
And youve outright lied about your bike being 'mint' and 'perfect'
Perhaps a little honestly about your bike might help eh?
good condition cbr 250's are selling for 3-3.5k, yours is a rolled, bowled and assholed 250 thats been thrown back together and youre asking 4k . . . . .
Rant over.
Wow.
Ok for starters.
*It did not go up the ass of a car, in fact it has never hit a car, it had a low side at 30km/h in which it hit nothing. On the contrary I hit a car which hurt like a B$^*h!!!
*I DIDNT have to replace the fairings, again i did because i was planning on anyway, i still have all my old fairings
*i resprayed the tank to match the new fairings... Go figure
* the rear lock didnt just fly out, a Fat ass potential buyer ripped it out with his belt when coming out for a ride with me and some guys.
*And nope. no chassis damage what so ever. was simply because i was using H4 Bulbs not H4r as a CBR should be using. Again bought some new H4r's because i'd prefer having the RIGHT stuff on my bike and all sorted.
Every couple of months i take my bike to a mechanic to have it checked up, not once have they pulled me up for anything and ive actually got good comments.
So what have we learnt from all this? i don't lie. Ask George of Motorcycle Doctors who i saw the same day i had my small mishap. "no Serious damage what so ever" i even rode my Bike home that day. I DIDN'T have to replace half the things i did but unlike most 250 riders i actually planned on keeping my 250 so i wasn't afraid of putting the hard time in and getting it running and looking perfect.
So Tigertim, I dont know why you got all pissed because you've actually helped me in the past which is frustrating me.
At the end of the day a 250 is a 250. You will drop it, its a learning bike. The difference between me and most 250 riders is rather than selling it on i spent time and money on getting it running Better than before.
any Decisions on a bike yet? Hyo or Ninja?

mate i was flying around i didn't see anything nor did anyone else surprisingly. A mans allowed to exaggerate his first drop.
I sure as hell hit a car, got some nice bruises from that HAHA but there was no serious damage to the bike
Scratched clutch cover, cracked mirror, broken brake lever and scratched fairings.
If George thought my bike wasn't fixable i wouldn't have bothered, but it was minimal, only a couple of hundred.

Get an RGV 250 the newer the better. It will totally hose those fat four strokes, handle better, look and sound better too. Get an USD fork model. Don't listen to those who say 2 strokes ware out fast, that's cobblers. As long as you use good quality 2 stroke oil and look after it it will last a long time.

I want brand new. Not second hand. and not 2 stroke. Ive said multiple times speed isnt a major issue for me it need to be comfortable, under warranty(new) and look good. Which is pretty much the hyosung.

FWIW - I did a test ride on the Hyosung and if it had been in my price bracket would have been very tempted. The twin pulls pretty well and feels good. I ended up with an older IL4 and I am deeply happy with it - I have a little more grunt over the twin which is handy if you want to be accelerating positively up to 120-130. To be honest though once your over 140ish on mine you need a pretty long stretch of road to be getting much quicker... and the Hyosung is probably pretty similar just slightly harder work over 120.
I have found the most fun with a 250 is keeping your cornering speed up and being able to flick it through corners... and top speed isn't so much of an issue with that!
stifmyster1
25th May 2011, 15:48
finally someone who has actually ridden one and says something about it. Yes it doesn feel very nice. And whipping through corners isnt my goals just yet. Still got that noob shit scared of falling off fear rolling through me. especially if it meant a stuffed bike. but ill work my way to that. supposedly the hyosung bikes are capable to leaning so far that the fairings and exhaust start to get scratched.

as far as logos and stuff go its cheap as to get a couple of custom vinyls made up that you can put on the bike if you want to, so dont be too worried about the decals etc that come on it.
It sounds to me like you have basically made up your mind on what bike you want, so just go for it. its unlikely that youll find a 'perfect' bike, there will always be something small you dislike about it if youre completely honest. Having said that, there isnt much you cant do to fix the things you dont like. if you dont like the handling, putting some good tyres on it and having the suspension tweaked for your size will make a massive difference for example.

I've only had mine a month and 2000k's and I'm startig to experiment more with my entry speeds on corners, lines, body position on the bike etc. The chicken strip on the tires has gotten smaller but it's still very definitely there!

Also, stifmyster1, have you given any thought to getting an older, naked straight-4 250 like a Honda Hornet or a Suzuki Bandit? They're comfortable, easy to ride, has performance almost on par with straight-4 sport 250s, and you won't have to take out a second mortgage to replace fairings if you crash it.

I know what you mean about some cruiser style bikes being bad on the back.
you can peel the existing decals off with a hair dryer, takes 5 minutes, and vinyls arent a patch job, theyre cheap to get them made and applied professionally!
are you saying you have 2.5 k after trading, or 2.5k cash, PLUS your bike? You might need to settle for ALMOST brand new, with very low Kays. You can often get bikes like that with much of their warranty still remaining, that can be transferred

2.5k after trade in. But i plan to finance it. worked it out to $50ish a week. which i can just sorta afford now but if i want to do any travelling or plan to go anywhere im screwed cause all my cash is tied up. if I can sort a job doing 10-20 hours a week then i can afford it. But need to get that job first. once i got that work for 3-4 weeks and save up everything that get bike and used the saved money from works as the weekly payments. means even if i have a bad week im still covered cause I would have the next 2-3 months of payments just sitting in the bank.
unfortunately as i said part 1 of this almighty plan is proving to be difficult. no one seems to let other no there hiring anymore unless there a massive company.

Hmm as for back pain - the Hyosung is very upright for a 'race' bike. I can choose either upright or more prone on the Bandit. I did start feeling a bit of back pain on the bike - but having looked at my body position fixed that myself. I was riding with a very arched back with my crotch right up to the tank - by sliding my butt back and straightening myself out it solved the back issue. You should be able to do something similar on the GN?

no. its not my riding position. cuase i have moved all over the seat attempting to fix it. moving right up against the tank sort of helps but then i just feel awkward as hell. on the hyosung i was comfortable.
I wasnt meaning to compare the bike. was simply stating that i had already mention i am not a fan of naked bikes. there just not for me.
Yes im poor. But if i can get a job i can pay it off over the next two years which i fine with. plus. i dont need a 600cc size bike if i ever did i would just buy my steps dads gsxr600.
Plus. bigger bike is usually for more power and speed. i have no need for more power and speed yet. plus i could always use the hyosung deal where they trade the 250 for a 650 when ya get your full and just add the remained to your finance.
Oh. and i pretty much plan to buy new where ver possible. 2nd hand stuff hates me.

Yet. I was asking question so i didnt rush into a bike and then realise i hate it. im talking my time so when i can afford it there is no mucking around. ill no exactly which bike I want.

Ahhh. When you put it like that....yeah fair call.
Probably 99% people looking to buy another bike at some stage, but want to think it over, and talk about it, and maybe get others opinions - before buying it.
Peace, and Out.

no. its not my riding position. cuase i have moved all over the seat attempting to fix it. moving right up against the tank sort of helps but then i just feel awkward as hell. on the hyosung i was comfortable.
I wasnt meaning to compare the bike. was simply stating that i had already mention i am not a fan of naked bikes. there just not for me.
You may already have tried this but - next time you have been riding your bike for 10-15 minutes think about what shape your back is in and if it is bent straighten it. There really should be a comfortable median on a bike like that where by taking a little more weight on your arms or moving your arse on the seat you can get a comfortable position.
And pftt some people take things Sooo seriously ;p

It isnt the bike or how im sitting. Bad backs run in my family. its something to do with the pressure on the lower spine. thats why when im on a sports bike and leaning forward i dont get the pain. cause there is very little pressure on my lower spine. probably doesnt help my tertiary course involves sitting in a computer chaiursfor 20hours a week

Pah but your computer is so crap you have to load it with a tape casette.
Your mama's so fat, when she went to the beach a local Iwi sued her for trying to alter the coastline.

Ventura make a rack for almost any bike including the 250 ninja ,check Dold industries web site.I put one one my 250 ninja which my partner now rides.
I presume you're going thru the learning stage as I recently have.I found it wasn't long before I wanted to upgrade to something with more power so I did a defensive driving course which knocked 3 months off my restricted licence.
I have a 650 now and love it.
The hyosungs have had build quality issues in the past but I think they are improving now so go for a late model.
My advice ,stick with the GN 250 till you get your full then go bigger
