Dear Suzuki Swift Owner
I realise that because you couldn’t afford a car that can exceed 170km/h, you feel a strong need to compensate for yourself. I also realise that you wake up each morning and put on your “I’m going to drive like an inconsiderate fuck face” hat.
I’d just like to say thank you, for driving at 80km/h in a 100 zone. I’d also like to thank you for whatever dumb fuck brain cell in you imbecilic mind thought it was a smart idea to try to cut me off.
It must have been hard hearing the roar of my 250 as I travelled behind you; I can understand how that would upset you whilst driving a 1.5L. And as you watched me indicate to overtake you, your inconsiderate fuck face hat clearly kicked into overdrive, as you swerved almost completely out into the oncoming lane, in a pathetic attempt to prevent me from getting past you.
I’m not sure what was sweeter, giving you the finger as I passed you, overtaking the other 8 cars you were stuck behind in one sweep, or finally taking the next corner AT SPEED, which I’ve been trying to do for weeks. :scooter:
Mr cage driver, you are an ignorant feeble excuse for a road user, I hope your POS swift gets sucked under a truck!
Sincerely
Willie Ranger

Dear willie,
I'm sorry to inform but no-body really gives a fcuk and you need to get used to this if you choose to ride a motorcycle.
And, as we all know by now, it is entirely your fault if you crash so dont' go blaming the cage driver for your lack of skill.
Thank you for your input.

It obviously wasn't a blue 5spd manual with black/red 17x7 Lenso D1Rs and Toyo Proxes 4s.

point of order Genie. Willie is new to the site so may not have seen the 'it is entirely your fault if you crash' posts yet.
Dear Willie,
Being stuck behind those 8 other cars gives the Swift driver the right to ensure no one else can queue jump. You see part of the problem with cages is they think you are in the same queue as them and yet some how they recognise that their cages drive differently to trucks. :weird: :corn:

Sorry if I've posted in the wrong section?
I've not been riding very long and it was my 1st 'holy shit' moment with a car.
I ride with an 'every asshole is out to get me' point of view, but don't yet have the confidence to lane split, so I'm pretty cautious when it comes to overtaking.
I appreciate I've got a lot to learn and it's the risk I run by choosing to ride a bike.
I was just ranting, as the post thread states.

nah you posted in right thread. This is just the typical 'sympathy' everyone gets on KB. some of it is light hearted but sadly some people take themselves seriously.
You survived to learn which is good.
Your rant was about a good point. Even if they didn't like what you were doing it is wrong for them to do what they did. There has been a manslaughter case in the UK and a more recent dangerous driving case based on it not being up to the cager to try to enforce their view of the world on the biker.

Just out of interest, was this the Napier road? I come in that way a lot of mornings and a depressing number of people seem to have this strange idea that the 100k zone is actually a 70-80k zone for the last 1.5kms.....

I lived a 15min walk from work in Brisbane, so there wasn't much point in riding.
I travel a 100km round trip to work each day, from Palmerston to Marton, so I'm loving that I get so much riding time in!
Downside is it takes me an extra 20mins to put enough layers on so I dont freeze to death.

Two questions, did you actually steal the swift's over taking opportunity and at any given time were you in the driver's blind spot?
Despite what you'd like to believe, driven aggressively I reckon that Swift would thrash the pants off your 250.
Remember there are always 2 sides to a story and for all you know that driver's reactions may have saved your life.

I almost got bowled off yesterday. Was lucky enough to swerve and avoid the dork but didn't realise that TWO people were actually trying to get in my lane at the same time so sprained my wrist hitting the window of one car but managed to avoid them both.
You'll get used to this, it happens frequently and to be honest if I had actually been paying proper attention I bet I would've seen it coming. You usually can always see it coming....
Good luck - Keep your eyes open and watch out for other road users cause they aren't looking for you!

This.
I wouldn't call it stealing and the Swift driver should have checked before trying to pull out but, from what you've described, it sounds like they just wanted to overtake as well. Which is very different from trying to stop you from doing so.
This is the kind of thing you have to be aware of always as it is always likely when you get to a prime passing opportunity that someone else will be thinking the same thing as you.
I doubt you'll like it after three years. And I fully understand.

Ignorant road users are a pita for any other road user - there are plenty of self-absorbed motorists who hold up traffic, speed up when you go to pass, take up the passing lane level with another vehicle ensuring nothing can get past in either lane, the list goes on.
The red mist can so easily be enticed from us, especially for riders who have machines capable of leaving slower vehicles in the dust but are caught in a speed bubble. Biding your time and then passing with brain and self-preservation mode still engaged is the best way to go. Planting your foot or twisting that throttle wide open out of frustration is a oneway route to disaster (sooner or later).

If you're not too confident yet, may be a good idea to look into some training stuff, easier to learn all good habits when you start than change em later. I made do with a few books and a healthy amount of ride-like-a-nana-ism.

You need a more powerful bike. Have patience and save up for the BMW 1000rr. A simple twist of the wrist on that beast will make any cage a distant memory before they even have time to react.
*sigh*.......

As Maki said, you don't realise how limited you are with a 250cc. Brakes and swerving (usually not good together) are your only defence.
Get a bigger machine and as long as you keep your ego in check, you can add accelerating past danger to your survival toolbag.
If all else fails, just breath deep and develop a sixth sense about weary drivers. This means looking further out and watching for cues about intended behaviour (position of their head, what they are being distracted by in the car, wheel turn angles etc...). Cage indicators generally lie or are an afterthought.
Don't react - just respond.

Although said with what I interpreted to be a hint of sarcasm, there is truth to that statement.

Seriously? I would have thought cities with traffic jams and shit would contribute to more stupid behavior and inattention. Maybe everyone in palmy is just depressed and whiny cos of the whether :cold: Sun-strike contributory accidents must be pretty rare here though right?
logical thinking but doesn't reign true, it comes about because palmy has some of the easiest roads in NZ & easy roads make stupid drivers. Why think when the road tells you what to do, your auto & power-steering car does the driving & your GPS tells you where to go?

Linton to Palmy would be one of the more 'interesting' main roads in the area but then you get all the fuk tards to and from Massey.

Before I got Binnie -my 250- I was riding the 600 (in my pic).
Stepping back down to the 250 taught me two things very quickly - I can get to 100 kms faster by pushing myself along with my feet :scooter:
And I'm soo not ready for the power of a 600.
Skill 1st, power 2nd I feel.
Skill set now also includes, consciously following with more distance between.
I did a 2 day handling course in Aussie to get my licence, I believe it's similar to your basic handling test, just a bit more involved it had theory on understanding road positioning and a simulation program (actually on a bike, in front of a computer screen) so you can practice emergency situations, without actually being in them :)

I didn't. I just broke enough to contemplate my own existence on the planet.
However stepping down from a 1000 to a 400 is killer. Its fun.....but a novelty now

Regards
Genie
